Yes, this would have to be supported in each lexer. Its similar to the unterminated string lexical class provided by some lexers including C++.
I don't dislike the scintilla behavior. I was just hoping to be able to expose it as an option for the user.
Don't like it much myself. Its not been common behaviour for GUI editors but used to be much more common with character cell editors. Its been asked for before so I'll accept a good implementation that allows this as an option.
