I do *not* talk about "black" or "grey" (or any specific color)...

Of course. I used "black" and "grey" words to show what I saw, but obviously in SciTE this means "the current setting for selection color" and "a dimmed version of this color", I thought it was evident we don't need to revert to a black & white world...

BTW, it is an option with some Windows controls to maintain an indication of selection status when inactive or not.

That's ES_NOHIDESEL and MSDN description states:

> Negates the default behavior for an edit control. The default behavior hides the selection when the control loses the input focus and inverts the selection when the control receives the input focus. If you specify ES_NOHIDESEL, the selected text is inverted, even if the control does not have the focus.

Which shows that the default is still to hide selection.

That's TVS_SHOWSELALWAYS for a tree view. A quick search didn't shown similar style of other controls, but I might have missed that.

Does this make me more than "partially" right? ;)

No more no less... :-D
The way you stated your sentence, one could feel that de-emphasis was pervasive, I just shown that lot of applications still hide the selection, and that MS provides ways for both behaviours.

I am not sure why we argue while we agree that this feature, optional or hard-coded, would be nice to have... :-)
