Check out nvidias site for some linux drivers. I had this problem with a tnt2. I found some drivers on their site and installed them, and the 3d performance was great after that. Tux racer and any other openGL program performed at about 1 frame/sec beforehand, and now I get plenty of performance. Hope that helps a little!
