Comments in configure suggest it is needed to build /DOCS. I commented out the two lines referencing fig2dev, but when I run regen.sh I hit another roadblocks. Namely aclocal: command not found and autoconf: command not found. It looks like this rabbit hole is just getting deeper and darker. :-(
I'll go ask this on the appropriate mailing list, but I wonder if I can "manually" install the debian package without using dpkg.
