(I've chibbed the preceding correspondence; I don't know if this is rude,
I'm sure someone will tell me & I apologise, but it seems like we're in a
new thread here.)

While I'm sure we've been here ( Pubs ) before, these problems (like the
poor and the pissed) are always with us. Dagger Gordon once told me a really
scary story about some guy that took a dislike to him while he was playing
in a pub and threatened to break all his fingers - and meant it. Dagger was
suitably impressed; spoiling your looks for a week or two is one thing, but
when the ability to do this thing is threatened.....

Fact is, people down the pub want the tube on most of the time; they're
spending, they're in charge. If we bring in the punters, good enough, but
the last thing the guv'nor wants is a bunch of thirsty neds going down the
road to watch highlights of Duffus .v. Kilmacolm on Murdovision 'cos they
don't give a hoot whether Jock 'O Hazeldean gets the girl or no'.

Now IF we had Coffee Shops & non-alcohol-dominated venues & social sites
like towns in the US & Canada things might be different. They would go broke
for a start; Central Perk could not exist on the proceeds of one or two AA
meetings a week....
(to be continued..)
