It's a modern Irish composition, also widely known as "Inisheer". I have heard that the island shown at the beginning of the 'Father Ted' TV programme was in fact the island of Inisheer (or Inis Orr). I learned it from a band called Inisheer, whose version is slightly but crucially different from most versions. Unfortunately I found that out AFTER I'd infected half of Edinburgh with my one. Another version I know is by the band Buttons and Bows. There was a whistle tutor written by a chap called Tommy Walsh; is it the same man? I don't know. It's perhaps worth bringing up on the Irish music list. -- Nigel Gatherer, Crieff, Scotland [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://www.argonet.co.uk/users/gatherer/ Posted to Scots-L - The Traditional Scottish Music & Culture List - To subscribe/unsubscribe, point your browser to: http://www.tullochgorm.com/lists.html
