Hi All
If anyone is looking around for modems watch out for a "Mentor" modem built
around the Intel (used to be Ambient) MD563X/MD5628 chipset. Priceless
advertise it as a hardware modem, but it is not. Technically it is a "Host
Accelerated Modem" which is just another name for a software modem. Intel
do have Linux drivers but only for Kernel 2.2 so it soon will be of no use
to me when I upgrade.
To be fair to Priceless, once I showed them the technical specs on the
Intel Website they gave my money back, but hopefully this info will save
someone an extra journey.
See http://developer.intel.com/design/modems/index.htm for the specs and
http://www.idir.net/~gromitkc/winmodem.html for general modem info.
Steven.
