I am not sure whether or not I am being a bit stupid here, i am new to mandrake 8.1 as well, and have been having problems installing the new kernel. Are you installing the kernel from mandrake update or manually? It screws up if you do it using the update and the drive will churn for hours. I made that mistake, and about 7 hours later it was still churning. You sound like you are doing it manually, but just in case Phil Deane http://www.MiracleExpress.force9.co.uk -------------------------------------------------------------------- http://www.lug.org.uk http://www.linuxportal.co.uk http://www.linuxjob.co.uk http://www.linuxshop.co.uk --------------------------------------------------------------------
