Mark, I've done this very thing before - There are 2 routes
A) get a hold of MS Services for Unix which will allow you to run your Win2K box as an NFS server B) use any standard FTP server program Next step is to share your linux install disk as either NFS or FTP (some installs won't work over ftp, like slackware, but Redhat & Mandrake both do). For ftp installs there is a memory requirement of 48Mb, which you meet, so that's cool. net work boot floppy - use either DHCP or assign the numbers (whichever suits your network) and select FTP (or NFS) as your install source. The rest should be fairly obvious. HTH, Ian -----Original Message----- From: Mark Hannah [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: 31 January 2002 09:23 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: [scottish] Linux install without a PC. Hi, I have just acquired a PC with a FDD, NIC, blank HDD...but no CD-ROM. (BTW, It's a PII 350Mhz, 64 Mb Ram, no HDD....60 quid from Silicon Group in Edinburgh) I also have a laptop running Win2K...but not linux. My question is, is there an easy way to install Linux (or any OS) on the PC from CD? Also, I can boot the PC using "Toms Boot Disk", but when plugging the ethernet cable into my hub, the "link" light doesn't come on. Any ideas why not? Thanks, Mark.
