It all really depends on your geographical location what is readily
availably for you. If you're in a cabled area then I would recommend
a cable
modem, although at present, the general consensus that I've heard
from users
is that telewest is better than ntl, but you dont really get a
choice in
that matter, its one or the other.
Not sure about the latest state of ADSL, whether or not they've
managed to
implement the distance increase, but I'm sure BT's fun and
informative(!)
site should give the relevant information, although Nildram seem to
be
offering good deals on ADSL as far as I remember. (www.nildram.net)

Subject: [scottish] Internet connections
Hi,
i'm buying a new more up to date machine (yeeeeeeehaw). Now i think
it
would be time for me to upgrade my internet connection as well to
use the
beast's full potential : i still have a 56k modem. I live in
Glasgow - what
do you think would be fastest/most readily available, cable or ADSL
? Do
you also have an idea about prices/best providers ? (and yes, i
remember
there was a discussion on this mailing list on a similar subject,
but i
think it was more oriented towards the northern regions)
Thanks,
Elise
