        Or just run 'X > x.out 2>&1' at a command prompt and look through
the x.out file afterward.  If X runs with this command, you can use the
ctrl-alt-backspace keypress to terminate it and see what it did.  (Note,
this assumes that the X server is called 'X', which it often is.  You
might have to hunt for it if it's called something else on your distro.)
