Hi Dennis, I think you and Dave are talking about different scripts.
The DNS pro version allows you to write scripts for it, using it's own language. The windows speech recognition utility, which is available in Windows vista and later for free as a part of Windows, also has this same scripting ability, and it is free. So, if money is a problem, you could try whatever you have in mind using WSR (by installing the separate macros utility for it called WSRMacros). You must download WSRMacros from MS, it is not built into Windows as the speech recognition is. I do have an app named WSR which is meant to show someone the basic idea as to how you would combine scripts for Window-Eyes, with scripts for the speech recognition, to make a hands-free system for a blind person which will respond to Window-eyes specific commands (which is what a blind voice user needs; you need to be able to tell it to read the line, or the window, or other things Window-Eyes does for you, and the only way to do so is to use its scripting language, not the one which comes with the screen reader). This is why Dave is bringing up the DNS/pro issue; it would make this task for Dragon much easier if you could script both it and the screen reader. However, since DNS/pro costs so much, if I were someone who had the time to script it, I'd try with the free WSR first just to see what it was like. In either case, I believe a scripter could sell his scripting product which turns Windows into a speaking and listening platform for a blind user who uses Window-Eyes. I offer my WSR app, as it is, for free (all rights making it freeware) to anyone who wants to start by using it. My only reservation is that I am sorry, but I don't have a lot of time to help someone do this. Here is the outline of what I believe needs to be done however, in case anyone wants to work with WSR: * get my WSR app. I have added a copy of the WSRMacros installer to my app, and so if my app fails, you just install the WSRMacros.msi which comes with the app (at the moment it's having an issue launching the installer for some people, it may be a 64-bit issue). * read about and learn WSR; separately, read about and learn the WSR macro language. join the yahoo groups email list for MS-speech. They have a lot of experts on WSR, and they have a download for tons of very sophisticated speech macros which let you give your pc unbelievably vague commands, and it figures out what you mean, and speaks any answer you need. * Investigate a free open source WSRMacros add-on package named Vocola (I never had time to look into it; it's supposed to expand the scripting capabilities of WSR). * You may want to purchase a utility for yourself named something like the WSR toolkit (or perhaps the WSRMacros toolkit). This writes macros automatically for you, using a wizard UI, and may help you in developing the macros you need. I believe it offers some tutorials as well on macros. * Define all the Window-Eyes verbal commands a blind user would need, using the WSR macros and/or Vocola. These utiltimately will need to cause Window-Eyes to do something, so look at the macro examples with my WSR app to see how that's done. * Fill out (I mean finish writing) the WSR app so it speaks any inaccessible dialogs displayed by WSR (it does speak a few, but there's more work to be done). * Decide if this is donated work or if you want to sell it; if you want to sell it, learn to use the WESign app from AI so that you can properly tie a licensed copy of your app to a particular copy of Window-Eyes. It's my belief that seeing a few people making money by writing WE apps, is what is needed to really make WE take off, so all you people who want everything free, Please be understanding about the need for this and for having to pay for someone's work. I will copy this to the scripting list, and Jim, if you really want this, you may want to consider hiring a scripter from this list and paying them to develop this for you. The only other way for you to get a voice operated pc which talks back to you is for you to buy jaws, then buy DNS/pro, and then buy the J-say (or whatever they are called) macros to make DNS speak. You are looking at many thousands of dollars, so it may be well worth it to pay a scripter to develop for you.
