Hey -
Ok, i've been on the list for the last week and was waiting for a good
sybject to jump into! Here it is! I remeber early Pumpkins history... That
stuff rocked like fucking hell! However, they got famous off of their 2 worst
songs ever (Bullet W/ Butterfly Wings and 1979). I figured this was an
off-step. Then, I went to go see them open up for the Rolling Stones about 2
yrs ago. They sucked!!! It was their replacement drummer's last night -
first, they didn't give him a farewell or thanks! (that was strike one!)
Number 2, nothing off of Siamese or Gish was attempted to be played!!! Strike
Three, Billy Corgan gladly brought Marilyn Manson and Twiggy Ramirez on
stage! I walked out at that point... I now hate the Pumpkins not only for
these 3 reasons, but during a show 3 yrs. prior in South Florida (where I'm
from - Key West to be exact). The Pumpkins did the same to Manson and was
greeted with BOOS! , but Corgan - being A rock star asshole now, said WE
DON'T CARE WHAT YOU THINK! WE HAVE YOUR MONEY ALREADY! Note: I did not attend
the show but was told by 3 separate people on 3 separate occasions that this
happened! But, when the hell did Sunny Day Real Estate get popular!!! And
besides, the guys are way too indie in spirit to become like that. Another
thing, their sound isn't what's selling - emo has and never really will be
that huge to become a mainstream thing...
I also don't think the Pumpkins are anywhere near as good as the
BEATLES. In all seriousness - only the Beastie Boys can draw actual clear cut
similarities. In their beggining of fame - both were something that they
didn't really aspire to be - teen idols. then, as they both resented the
image they both made brilliant albums that didn't sell well (Beatles - Sgt.
Pepper... - Beastie's - Paul's Boutique). There are several other
similarities that I don't want to go into detail with though...
Now for the introduction. My name is Jason Jackowski. I'm from Key
West, FL I love the Clash, Sunny Day Real Estate, Beastie Boys, Descendents,
and everything in between. Basically if it's got soul, a beat, and gets kind
of hard at times - it's good!!! I too play the bass, but I just started...
Have a SUNNY DAY!!!
