I tend to lean toward the latter when I read about people deciding what people
are REALLY thinking when they read lyrics. Lyrics (especially those from Jeremy)
are so personal and often times so vague that nobody really knows what the writer
meant. Sometimes the writer doesn't either, because like our friend Brian here,
they're bodies are intoxicated.
Moreover, I think people tend to apply their own beliefs and feelings into the
lyrical translation to match what they want it to say. Much like our friend Alan
did, who started this thread. It seemed that he heard something completely
different than many of us have, and I don't believe it was coincidence that they
fall into line with his personal spiritual beliefs. I know many times I do this
as well; regarding different songs by other bands, etc...
I believe it's because of the impact the music makes on us. We like the band,
and want to like them more. We apply the lyrics to our lives in order to hold
each song, and ultimately the band, closer. On the flipside, we have all known
people who listen to songs or watch bands and inject meanings into them to
forward their own agenda. A good example is KISS. I've heard it said many times
that KISS stans for Knights In Satan's Service or Kings In Satan's Service. I've
ALSO heard that Gene Simmons called the band "KISS" because they couldn't call
the band "FUCK".
Well, if you've read this far, I thank you, and I bid you a good day, and hope
you too will add to this discussion and many more to come; intoxicated or not.
