"Don't overanalyze the songs and let them slip away
from you...after all, they aren't literature, they are
songs."

although there is so much to say for "slipping away"
into a song, you cannot ignore the lyrics. the words
are such a vital part of songs not only for their
melodic qualities, but they also are used to express
the mood/inspiration felt when writing in the first
place.

this is a sample taken from "Ansigod's Epic" where
jeremy talks about the birth of grendel:

"this beautiful music that was coming from the studio
one day...I got up to follow it and it was Dan making
these beautiful droning noises - feedback sounds -
with his guitar! That's all
it took to inspire me. I sang `The rain was there to
wash away my tears.'"

for so many, writing (whether it be music, music
lyrics, poety, ect.) is an expression of feelings.
many find that the only (or easiest) way to express
what they feel is with art. i believe that
analyzation is necessary to find meaning in a song (of
course the meaning is dependent on your own
interpretation).

as for getting lessons on God from the bibe, your
religious thoughts should be determined by how you
live your life, not what you do at church. jeremy was
(apparently) at a point in his life where he felt the
need to express his emotions about religion. but even
if it is not about religion, you should still take
notice and should when anyone lets you into their
world and see what it is that they are so passionate
about.
