Hey everyone...

I'm new to the list, and also a bit new to SDRE. A quick summary: I had heard
a few songs by them, never thought to get one of their albums till this year
because a lot of people I talk to on this Radiohead list I run praised them
so much, then I picked up "Diary," and because I couldn't find it anywhere -
I had my manager special order "LP2" for me for the record store I work at.
I've heard "How It Feels To Be Something On" and I like it, I just haven't
had the money to get it yet :P In any case, I really got hooked to them fast.
I think they have such a strong, pure sound...like you can tell they sat down
and really thought about what they write..not just "Ok, you got three chords?
Ok, I'll randomly think of words to use for lyrics and we'll pretend to
understand it all." Also, I didn't know Jeremy had a solo album...I'd like to
hear more about this :o) And of course, anything SDRE.

About Dan making a solo record...well, solo records can be good OR bad.
Sometimes a solo effort can be really, really good, or it can kind of be like
"This is nice, but....where's the rest of the band?" Out of the solo efforts
I've heard so far [Jerry Cantrell's "Boggy Depot," Scott Weiland's "12 Bar
Blues," etc.] they've been really good and interesting because you can really
see what part of the band they have, and it's just cool. But I always feel a
little disappointed like it just wasnt the same. Its kinda like when your pet
dies and you replace it with another, but its not the same hamster you had.
But sometimes solo efforts can be really cool and really good, especially
from the most unlikely people. One odd thing about solo albums...I don't know
if anyone feels this way, but when you hear about or hear a solo album, don't
you get this odd feeling like the band broke up? It's sad. But then when the
band releases another album, it seems odd...like a reunion. I don't know, I
guess I always feel that way ;o)

So um, yeah, my point [I have one, really] is that if Dan did a solo album he
could surprise everyone and just kick some music industry ass and have some
amazing album. He could, too, since he contributes so much to SDRE. Also, a
lot of people are kind of if-y when they hear the main guitarist for the band
is going to release a solo album because they assume the lead singer does
everything and everyone else is just a bunch of puppets [well, most of you
don't think that, but...] and don't realize that they contribute a LOT. Thats
why when I heard Jerry Cantrell's "Boggy Depot," even though I don't like it
as much as Alice In Chains, it is REALLY cool, cuz he contributes so much to
the songwriting and lyric writing of AIC.

Anyway, enough from me...hopefully I'll be contributing more later [but it
depends how timid I am].

Peace,
Kris.
