It's not about offending HP or other people, it's about being a welcoming and accepting group. As Neal mentioned, having job openings posted in our mailing list is great. While it might have been amusing, I don't think it was needed and if I were Mark I wouldn't have appreciated the comment. I think we've all doing quite a good job accepting new developers, developers coming from other programming languages, I don't see why this attitude can't extend to people posting job openings.
