Hi, I'm a UCSD student. I was using Python for web programming recently until I read about what's been going on in Rails in the last 6-8 months with respect to RJS, the improvements in ActiveRecord and so on. Color me impresed - I checked out Rails about a year ago and it looked pretty neat but I thought my preferred Python framework would develop much faster than it actually has so I stayed with it until now.
I don't like Python's "density is bad" philosophy (I love Haskell, Smalltalk, and other dense languages) and all the web frameworks for Python seem to either suck or be spinning their wheels, so I'm switching to Ruby. And plus the Smalltalk-style methods on collections (each/select/collect, etc.) are totally awesome. I'll probably be at the next meeting of sd.rb since it's right on campus -- where exactly on UCSD is it?
