Couple quick notes, all relate to Jamis Buck's blog at http://weblog.jamisbuck.org/
1. He's done a series of recent articles covering the internal workings of routes as well as extending routes.2. Along w/ Koz, he's recently started http://www.therailsway.com. Nothing there yet, but the purpose is to discuss doing things "The Rails Way."On Oct 31, 2006, at 2:17 PM, Doug Johnston wrote:Thanks for taking over Tom! It's sad that we're losing Kevin, but it's great to have you stepping in to fill the need. I'm really excited about this week's meeting and am hoping to come to Rock Bottom for the pregame festivities. What time are people meeting there?
As for talks, I'd have to echo Warren's thoughts that it would be nice to talk about how to use Rails in non-standard, but common ways. I'd also love to see a mini talk about routes and how to use them efficiently. I get my routes to do what I need, but I can't help thinking there's an easier way to accomplish what I want. Sure, I can look up solutions to these issues online, but it's great to have an open discussion with real people! In general, I think it would just be nice to see how people are using different elements of Rails to accomplish the job. Does anyone use components? What are different solutions to the pagination issues? What's the best way to route nested controllers? When should helpers be used? When should they not be used?
Basically, best practices for Rails. Like other semi-newbies (and coming from a more procedural background), I can usually find ways to accomplish what I want, but I am rarely sure that I'm doing it in the most efficient, Ruby/Rails/OO way. Knowing and using some of these best practices would help decrease refactoring time down the road. Looking forward to Thursday!

I'm happy to drive some people onto campus from the restaurant. I'll
have 3 extra seats.
