hey,
I made this RoR site( http://www.jobdud.com ) to help people(who are looking for a job) find more about the jobs/internships they are applying to so they don't have to waste time applying to a job they wouldn't want to work at. Kinda like Yelp.com but for jobs instead of restaurants.

(so please submit your job reviews of your past jobs, they can be reported anonymously )

I haven't really publicized it on the big sites because I'm afraid of the server not being able to hold up to a load.

I've done a lot to optimize it: page caching(easier since there are no user accounts), sql reductions(custom sql queries, includes)

I'm using hostingrails.com with 50 MB of dedicated memory on a mongrel server. But it is still a shared server. it's fairly cheap, $10 a month and their support is fast. but i think their speed maybe lacking. May just be the shared hosting aspect. Every once awhile, the server takes a very long time to do a create task(shows >10 secs for the DB in the log), even though most times it takes < .05 secs.

I've downloaded http://seattlerb.rubyforge.org/rails_analyzer_tools/
and ran bench and crawler against the live site to see if it would crash. It held up fine, but I have a feeling this isn't an extensive site profiling technique.

How do you guys do extensive site profiling?

Do any of you guys have a mid-sized traffic site on a shared server?

Thanks for the help!
Tommy
