At Search390, it is our goal to bring you the information you seek. At the end of last year, you took a survey and told us that storage was going to be a top priority in 2002. We listened. Last month, we focused on mainframe storage and brought you new original content, live expert discussions, polls, etc. In case you missed any of mainframe storage month, here are some highlights:
Live discussion afternoon with mainframe storage expert Chuck Standerfer on March 13 in our Sound Off forum. To view the threads from that day, click here.
We also posted the following articles that focus on mainframe storage: "Disk space, management top users storage concerns" and "Look to the mainframe and learn"
There are also some new storage tips for you to check out. As well as a featured topic full of expert advice, tips and other storage-related information. We will continue to focus on the topics that matter most to you, so look for more theme months in the future. If there is a particular topic that you would like us to highlight, let me know. Send me an e-mail.
I look forward to hearing from you.
BJ

Calling all smarties: Two of your peers need help!
Neeladri posted the following in the Developer forum. Can anyone figure this out? " I wrote sample code in COBOL/370 for handling error conditions, in which I used a Call to CEEHDLR, a routine provided by LE for handling error conditions. I simulated a S0CB by dividing a number by zero. The problem is that LE is not passing the error condition to my error-condition handling routine that I registered with CEEHDLR call in the program. The job simply abends as it does when no user-condition-handler is in effect. I used the runtime option TRAP (ON), still LE does not trap it"

TSG001 posted this in the WebSphere/Web Integration forum: We have a z/OS machine running CICS TS1.3 and WAS 4.01 along with HTTP Server, Java 1.3 and DB2 7.1. What options are available for connecting Java to CICS through WAS using EJB WITHOUT using the CICS Transaction Gateway (CTG)? This is not installed on our machine. It will be a browser based application so we do not want any software downloaded to the client (thin client). Looking for alternatives along with advantages/disadvantage... Appreciate any help on this... Thanks."

| Tip of the Week: |
| Those who've deployed WebSphere Application Server (WAS) 4.0 Advanced Edition (AE) behind a firewall have probably also specified default ports on your firewall for WAS AS' Bootstrap, Location Service Daemon (LSD) and Object Request Broker (ORB) listener services, among others. You've done so, of course, because you know that your firewall will restrict any and all external traffic destined for ports that haven't been configured to accept inbound connections. |
