In the past several months, security experts and users alike have been finding holes and glitches in some of IBM's products.
Sure, IBM has released PTFs and patches but problems continue to arise. As a mainframe user, have you noticed an increase in security vulnerabilities in recent months? How about in the past few years? Would you say that IBM is quick to respond to problems or is it taking a cavalier approach to the release of PTFs?
IBM has released fixes, but in some cases, has offered few details about the nature of the problem citing security concerns.
Is IBM being forthright enough? Do you want to know more about security vulnerabilities? Or are you afraid releasing such information may help attackers?
Can IBM do more to make their products more secure? Is the iSeries still one of the most secure platforms or is IBM letting things slip? Can it all be blamed on open systems and the Web? Contact me with your thoughts on this at [EMAIL PROTECTED] and take our poll here.

What devices can be FICON attached to z800? That's what Search390 user "DaveK" wants to know. "We are in the midst of analyzing an upgrade of our mainframe to z/800. I'm trying to get information on what devices can be attached via FICON and what will have to remain parallel/ESCON? The big question is our 3490 and 3590 tape drives. Has anyone had any experience with these devices on a z900 or z800 box? Can they be fiber connected?
Can these devices be connected? Go to our operating systems forum and post your response to this question today:

| Tip of the Week: |
| Jim Keohane waxed poetic about the wonders of Volker Bandke's turnkey packaging of MVS 3.8j and the Hercules/370 emulator and how well it ran on his lowly PC. Well, there's some genetic engineering underway to graft S/390 and even Z-architecture traits onto Hercules/370. Would you believe Unicode, LSA, Immediate-and-Relative and even compression op codes downlevelled to S/370? |
