The response was overwhelming. Not surprisingly, the majority of respondents answered that they've been working with mainframes for 25 + years. This may be due to the fact that substantially fewer universities offer mainframe training in their IT curriculum, and today's college students are opting for more edgy courses covering Unix-based Web servers, Linux and Windows over mainframe courses. What are your thoughts on the subject? Do you find that a growing number of mainframers are also being asked to expand their skills beyond Big Iron? Do you feel pressure to have to train younger programmers? Is education the answer? What will it take to turn young programmers on to the mainframe? Linux? Java? Anything? And finally, what do you personally think should be done to entice the younger generation to the mainframe? Please share your thoughts with us.
