ANY ADVICE FOR UNEMPLOYED MAINFRAME PROFESSIONAL? |by Rick Nashleanas

Dear Ask the Expert,
I am a 20-year mainframe programmer, currently unemployed due to the
phasing out of an old IBM legacy project. I supported the IBM system
for the past 14 years. I know I should have never stayed working with
antiquated technology. But unfortunately, I did, and there appears to
be hardly any jobs that demand these skills (PL/I, CICS, VSAM, JCL,
DB2). Do you have any suggestions or contacts? I feel it's useless
for me to waste my time looking for a job. I think I should go get a
new career altogether!

HOW TO ASSIGN RULES TO LINUX FILE SERVER FOLDERS? | by Jan Lahmann

Dear Ask the Expert,
On Windows2000 servers, when we implement a file server, can we
assign various access rules to the folders, including list folder,
read, access and execute rights for individual users or groups? How
can we implement such a security structure in Linux if we want to use
Linux as a file server. What other security products should we use to
implement such a structure?

WILL CICS TS V2.2 RUN COBOL II OR OS/VS COBOL? | by Ken Davies

Dear Ask the Expert,
We are a CICS 4.1 shop, starting to begin our planning process to
migrate to CICS TS 2.2. Currently, our legacy CICS applications are a
mixture of COBOL, with quite a few COBOL II and OS/VS COBOL. Our
questions:

1) Will TS 2.2 support the existing load modules which were compiled
under COBOL II and/or OS/VS COBOL?

2) Converting the COBOL II and/or OS/VS COBOL source is a major
project within itself, and we are starting it. However, it won't take
place anytime soon. In the meantime (after converting to TS 2.2), we
are planning to use the pre-compiler from our 4.1 system when we have
to change to one of the existing applications. Do you see any
problems with doing that?

have a z/OS machine running CICS TS 1.3 and WAS 4.01 along with an
HTTP Server, Java 1.3 and DB2 7.1. What options are available for
connecting Java to CICS through WAS using EJB and without using the
