HOW IS DATA STORED IN VSAM FILES | by Tom Moulder

Dear Ask the Expert,
I am doing an analysis on the conversion of data from VSAM files into
a relational database, and I don't know enough about the way data is
stored in VSAM files. Can you give me a general explanation of how
data is stored in VSAM?

IS IT POSSIBLE TO PASS DYNAMIC PARMS TO A DATASET? | by Mark Zelden

Dear Ask the Expert,
Is it possible to pass dynamic parms to a dataset? In our batch JCL
that runs every night, the nodes of the dataset should contain system
date and system time. We need to automate this process. Is there a
way to do this? Any input on this is really appreciated.

NEED HELP WITH CONFLICTING BATCH CLASS STANDARDS? | by Steve Sampson

Dear Ask the Expert,
For cost savings we just brought a new MVS image into our sysplex. It
is a separate JES complex currently running in compat mode. My
problem is the batch class standards conflict with our pre-existing
sysplex. Our traditional standards are well structured, defined and
enforced. This new arrival has some standards, but with a few
conflicts. For instance, our class A is short running with a
guaranteed turn around, their class A's are long running. If I could
use system ID for classifying JES work, it would solve my problem,
but WLM rules don't allow that. What would be the least labor
intensive means of resolving this situation? There are about a half
dozen conflicts in job class standards.
