Are you overwhelmed by the prospect of making a technology purchase?

Before making a decision, you may need to consider some or all of the following factors: Interoperability, integration, performance, availability, security, support, workload, configuration, and operations management. Not to mention, you're expected to deliver ROI and keep your costs in check.

If you're responsible for purchasing decisions, we want to help. First, we'd like to hear about your requirements. What kinds of purchases will you be making this year? Will your spending differ from last year and, if so, how? Are you planning to upgrade current systems? Are you currently running a system that is cost prohibitive? How would you like operations to be improved?

Then, tell us how we can help you better evaluate the myriad of cost considerations. What are you looking for when making IT purchasing decisions? How important is price? Do you prefer to buy or lease? Would a decision-making checklist be beneficial, and if so, what items do you think should be ranked at the top of the list? Would you like to see more Search390 coverage on any particular technologies or trends?

Please send your feedback and suggestions to me at [EMAIL PROTECTED].

We look forward to hearing from you.

>> Search390 member "smalony" posted this in the WebSphere/Web Integration forum: I am trying to determine if there is a way to delay the 401 error back to the client when a bad password has been entered. We are putting our OS/390 Web server to the Internet. We are worried that someone will write a program which will loop through all possible logon names, trying to guess a password. After three tries, RACF will suspend the ID. If someone knows this, they can write a program which will try every combination of userid with three bad passwords, and suspend every userid on our system. To defeat this, I would like to slow down the logon process if a bad password is entered. (Maybe delay response for 2 seconds). I have not been able to determine how to do this yet?
Has anyone looked at this scenario, and determined how to stop this type of attack?
If you have, please help smalony out by posting your response here:

Tip of the Week:
Sure, WebSphere Application Server's (WAS) Application Installation Task Wizard lets you install an enterprise archive (EAR) into an application server runtime, but did you know that you can also use WAS' WebSphere Control Program (WSCP) to script the installation of EAR files. Here again, IBM's always invaluable WAS InfoCenter provides a wealth of information, along with a variety of sample scripts and procedures that will help get you started. And because IBM's implementation of WSCP in WAS 4.x is for the most part based on standard tool command language (TCL), those of you who are familiar with TCL in other environments should be comfortable using it to administer WAS.
Send us your tip(s), and a DVD/MP3 player can be yours. Click here for more details:
>> Hey good buddy, got your EARs on?
