Some experts believe the growth is due to Enterprise X-architecture, a logical extension of X-architecture to enable Intel servers to do mainframe computing. The theory, says one expert, is that many companies now only have Intel-based skills among their IT professionals, and they should not have to acquire new Unix or mainframe expertise because their Intel-based systems run out of steam as data volumes grow. MAINFRAME SALES DROP | News: CNET Sales of mainframe zSeries servers dropped 8% according to an earnings report released Wednesday by IBM. In mainframes, sales of new computing capacity increased 7%, 45% percent of that driven by customers using the Linux operating system, IBM said. A Dell official said the company is looking at other ad campaigns and that the current ads starring a group of unctuous interns are getting good feedback.
