Our IT shop recently migrated from OS/390 to z/OS v1.4. We think we are now seeing a few problems with batch COBOL LE programs where some WORKING-STORAGE fields -- S9(4) COMP) -- are no longer being initialized by the operating system. Have you heard of any similar problems following a migration to z/OS? Could this be compiler related? We did not relink every program prior to the upgrade.

One thing's for sure -- of all the reality shows on television, UKTV Style's Watching Paint Dry has the most gloss. It's also the most realistic; you tune in to watch a different kind of paint dry on an empty wall each day (talk about truth in advertising!). Now the show is available via the Web 24 hours at http://www.uktvstyle.co.uk/WhatsOn/WatchingPaintDry.cfm, and visitors can vote for their favorite paint. Think of it as American Idol meets Sherwin-Williams meets rampant boredom. Producers got the idea for the show after deciding they'd rather watch paint dry than see another reality TV show -- maybe Hollywood will rip it off with Watching Grass Grow.
