Today's Featured Tip
===============================================================

Three fun things you can do with WRKACTJOB

Sometimes it's the simple tools -- like OS/400's green-screen Work
with Active Jobs (WRKACTJOB) -- that you take for granted.
WRKACTJOB's a lot older than many readers on this list and --
because of that longevity -- it contains some useful features that
can be handy in different situations. Joe Hertvik shows you three
fun things that WRKACTJOB can do.

Answers to Other Administrator Questions
=============================================================

1. The proper way to end WRKACTJOB
Most iSeries 400 users don't use the correct procedure to end the
WRKACTJOB command. Read this tip to see what Search400 member Butch
Adams suggests.
http://www.search400.com/tip/1,289483,sid3_gci517970,00.html

2. What file is the job waiting on?
Do you ever have a batch or interactive job go to a status of LCKW
on the WRKACTJOB screen (and the user's session mysteriously
"locks up" in a "deadly embrace")? How can you tell what job has
the lock on the file needed by the job in question so you can take
action? Check out this tip from Search400 member David Hayes to find
out what you can do to prevent this from happening to you.

3. Why can't we FTP from the iSeries 400 to a vendor site?
One user writes, "We are unable to FTP a file from our iSeries to
another site. We can connect to the remote site, but when we try
to send a file the system appears as though it's trying to send it
and it hangs up. After about 10 minutes it finally ends the
connection. Does anyone know why this is happening?" A few
search400 members have some suggestions.

4. WRKF provides WRKOBJ-like file detail
The Work with Objects (WRKOBJ) command works well if you want to
locate and work with OS/400 objects anywhere on your system. The
problem, tip writer Joe Hervik points out, is it also lists other
OS/400 objects, such as programs (*PGM), output queues (*OUTQ),
tables (*TBL), and data queues (*DTAQ). It's not granular enough
when locating files. If you're looking for specific OS/400 file
objects, Joe recommends you try the Work with Files (WRKF)
command.
