LEAD STORY

V5R2 EXTENDS THE SQL CAPABILITIES OF DB2 | eServer Magazine

This article provides a sophisticated look at the real power
of SQL as a business data access language. SQL is the industry
standard for database access, and the benefit is that developers
can port and reuse existing SQL-based business logic from
database server to database server. The new function introduced
with OS/400 V5R2 continues to build on these SQL advantages.

GET THE CL PROGRAM TO KNOW THE JOB IS RUNNING | Expert advice

Dear Ask the Expert,
I'm wondering what the best way is to let my CL program know whether
the job is running in debug mode or not. I want to code my self-
submitting CL so that if the job is in debug mode, it will not
submit itself to batch. It would have to know whether it was in
debug mode under STRDBG or STRISDB.

SYSTEM FREEZE ON V5R1 ON 820 | Forum advice

One user writes, "Our one partition freezes, and we are unable to
enter any request on the system. After about two to three minutes
it returns. When checking the system there are no error messages,
no VLOGs, nothing. It's clean of any errors relating to the
problem. We are running OS400 V5R1 with the latest CUM level and
the latest database PTFs. Does anyone know what the possible
cause of this might be?"

THE MISSING LINK | Star Trek star turns to Linux

Techies and trekkies alike are spreading the news that Wil
Wheaton, the guy who played Wesley Crusher in "Star Trek: The Next
Generation," is in love with Linux. It's true. The wannabe Star
Fleet Officer has dumped Windows. The open-source movement
appeals to what Wheaton calls his anarchistic and individualistic
tendencies. Smitten with his new choice, Wheaton now describes
himself as "the world's No. 1 Linux cheerleader." It's a sure
bet that some advertising types are already planning the
campaign: "Linux: Make it so."
