Good catch. Thanks for reporting and even more for providing a
workaround.

What are the symthoms? ( how can users recognise it? )

Yes, I guess this would be a good idea. It should be trivial to even make them
coexists. Perhaps "alternatives" could be used to choose which version
"/usr/bin/sablecc" will be linked to, in case both are installed?

This is a problem because php4 and php5 are different and I actually think
that there are some bugs about this already.

Not until this error message is gone. Otherwise I would be swamped with

Bug#333109: dbconfig-common: reconfiguring makes pgsql config change to mysql

i believe that this is in fact a design decision. one of the tenets of
dbconfig-common is to make installation/removal as much inline with
the dpkg process as possible. therefore, if you try and install
the package twice, you try to install the db twice. even more
to the point running dpkg-reconfigure is doing exactly what it
should do, if you provide the same dbname twice.

unfortunately, that won't work, because dpkg-reconfigure sets $3,
installing from rcfile state wouldn't work, and iirc there were some
other issues.

perhaps a reasonable compromise could be reached such that an "ignore"
option were added for install errors, so that in this situation the
admin could say "shut up, i know what i'm doing"?

anyway, i'll make an upload in a bit that will close this bug, but
if you think the ignore feature would be a good solution to this
second problem, either contact me privately or open another bugreport
for it.

Hi Jarno,

I will look into importing the new version soon. Luckily, "legacy" does
not mean "obsolete". I was just wondering if it would make sense to
have "sablecc2" and "sablecc3", as sablecc 3 is not fully backward
compatible (it does not support the filter() method in the generated
Parser class).

Hi,
I've been looking through the packages that need a reupload because
of the gcc-4.0 transition.

Some of your packages need a rebuild too:
vnc, vnc4, rfb, source-highlight, steghide, dhttpd

vnc, rfb, source-highlight and dhttpd rebuilt without problems in my
sid pbuilder.

steghide builds fine with Matt Kraai's patch from the BTS.

vnc4 doesn't build unfortunately, and the links to patches given in
the bugreport by the amd64 people don't work anymore. I haven't
talked to one of them yet.

Yep, fully acceptable.

Do you have a patch or do you want me to simply make the changes myself?
It would be nice if someone actually test this fully before I make the

Funnily, stdin can still be used as input to chfn (and, I guess, chsh)
as I showed in my example. The output is a bit ugly because the
prompts are still sent to stdout, but it does the job.

I propose closing this bug report.

Not only that manpage is out of date. Many more are, please read the package

The problem with this one is that when it's being called indirectly by adduser,
then your script has no control over it.

Ah, right, you just say it. I've found this before, and fflush works wonders.

This patch solves the problem. It affects the first lines of output (since
they're in the same buffer), and all subsequent prompt queries.

I've tested it with:

  # cat | chfn rmh 2>&1 | cat

And works perfectly. Thanks for your help (even if you thought it was not a
bug, you actualy solved it..)

When I have a lot of tabs open, sometimes using ctrl-w to close the active
tab does not work. In this case it is almost always fixed by pressing tab
(after which ctrl-w does work)...but then the next tab may have the same
problem. I think depending on which widget is active the ctrl-w may
sometimes

be ignored...the signal handler for this key isn't "high enough" in the
widget hierarchy to catch all keypresses.

Well in text fields ctrl-w tends to do other things than close the
current tab. Could that be what you're seeing?

Possibly (likely maybe).

But...

1. What would ctrl-w do other than close the tab?

If you have emacs keybindings turned on, it deletes everything before
the cursor. Otherwise, I don't know.

There is no cursor. What happens here is that I have a text box active
while editing a form, then after I submit the form the next page I get
has no text box and this is when I see the bug: ctrl-w still doesn't
work - in fact it does nothing visible.

So I take back what I said earlier about the text field being the cause
(it may still be the cause of the bug, but there is no text field
active). This is actually a bug.

Bug#333252: wine: Severe regression in 20050930 : MSOffice no longer runs

2005-10-10 Thread Emmanuel Charpentier
Package: wine
Version: 0.0.20050930-1
Severity: normal

The current (20050930) vesrion of wine as packaged in Debian exhibits
a severe regression : Wine no longer runs a previously installed version
of MS Office. Launching Excel, for example, leads to :

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ wine c/Program\ Files/Microsoft\ Office/Office/EXCEL.EXE
fixme:ver:RtlVerifyVersionInfo (0x7fa5edd8,64,6): Not all cases correctly
implemented yet
Wine exited with a successful status

On screen : a dialog box asking for installation of Excel appears. Clicking on
"Install" leads to a second dialog box asking to install from CD. Clicking
on "Cancel" terminates the program.

WinWord does not even reach the dialog box step : its splash box flashes
briefly, then the program terminates with the following on terminal :

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ wine c/Program\ Files/Microsoft\ Office/Office/WINWORD.EXE
fixme:x11drv:X11DRV_GetDeviceCaps (0x9c4): CAPS1 is unimplemented, will return
0fixme:ver:RtlVerifyVersionInfo (0x7fa6f8b8,64,6): Not all cases correctly
implemented yet
Wine exited with a successful status

I cant't remember this regression being reported on the mailing lists.

Sincerely,

Emmanuel Charpentier

But why do you want to use the initrd format? Initramfs boots a
Debian system just as well, and will have more support in future
kernels.

Bug#330191: klibc: ftbfs [sparc] redefinition of 'struct __new_sigaction'

2005-10-10 Thread Jurij Smakov

Hi,

The culprit is clearly the only Debian patch included in the 1.1.1-2
klibc source package (debian/patches//klibc-sparc64-signals.diff). It
looks like it's just a leftover from some previous version, at least the
patch header mentions 1.0.14, which does not match the current version. If
I remove that file, the package builds fine.

Just doing what I promised, it worked fine with your patch too.

I think that we can have an upload to unstable with emergency medium or
high, as this package broken in testing may be preventing a lot of
people of taking their backups (I can say that it made my life harder,
especially when my system suffered from some instabilities that even
caused filesystem corruption).

gcc-3.3 3.3.6-7 has no problems whatsoever (I needn't have to make
changes like removing static, but I guess this is an intended
feature in gcc-4.0, this is not the first package I have seen not
compiling due to this) and no segfault occurs.

I need to look into this further, but cloning and reassigning to
libnet-dns-perl so Florian can take a look at it too.

Thanks for noticing that. I guess that this should really be archived

No, I tried with my own 2.6 kernel (I really don't want to use the
"FAILSAFE" kernel that comes with mindi).

No, it didn't have just an offset. It was rejected by my patch command
when I tried applying it. I would have no problems with a fuzz or
offset.

Oh, BTW, the patch that you sent this time needed to have the file
mindi_patched renamed, but this was a minor point.

Nice, I think that I'll be merging them, then.

I am burning a CD generated with mindi + your patch. I will report back
with the results that I get. I am using, BTW, my own 2.6 kernel.

Bug#333248: libnet-ssh-perl: Must not depend on a transitional package (ssh)

2005-10-10 Thread Nelson A. de Oliveira
Package: libnet-ssh-perl
Version: 0.08-1
Severity: minor

Hi!

I was going to remove the package ssh from my system, since it's a
transitional package.
However, libnet-ssh-perl depends on ssh:

Depends: perl (>= 5.6.0-16), ssh

I think that this should be changed to openss-client and/or
openssh-server, since ssh package was split in two new packages.

Changing this makes possible to remove the transitional package ssh
without problems.

Thank you
Nelson

Package: spamassassin
Version: 3.1.0a-1

Further investigation reveals that this problem was related to my system not

This is neither required by spamassassin nor libnet-dns-perl, even though it is
depended on by Net::DNS::Resolver.
Perhaps reassign this as a bug to libnet-dns-perl?

I've tested with a dummy package which:

Provides: php4, php4-domxml, php4-imap, phpapi-20020918

and installed just horde3 and imp4. A bugreport might be fired against
php-mail-mime to not depend on php4. Also some other packages do depend
on php4-pear, which is a transitional pkg at this time.

The installation went fine and I was able to run horde using mysql5 backend
and imp and authenticating against a remote IMAP server. The only error I got
was:
[Tue Oct 11 06:05:05 2005] [error] [client ::1] PHP Fatal error: Only
variables can be passed by reference in /usr/share/horde3/imp/mailbox.php on
line 553, referer:
http://localhost/horde3/services/portal/sidebar.php?Horde=d8bf4e67adcff2d84d8ae6d3ef88e995

I've not payed too much attention to configuration though, and might have
broken something there. Also I was unable to find php4-domxml replacement and
gave it a go w/o it. Not sure whether it's needed anymore(or included
somewhere in php5 packages).

Anyway, the result of the test is that it is runnable within this environment,
and your should probably go ahead and change the dependencies.

I haven't checked the horde/imp mls for anything on the topic, just the
install instructions. A quick search on the archives, or a talk with
Chuck/Jan(form horde team) should show you whether there could be any issues.

Cheers,
Delian

Bug#333247: etch_d-i: netcfg dependency on /lib/libiw.so.28 unmet

2005-10-10 Thread Michael Gilbert
Package: debian-installer
Severity: normal

i installed etch via the 20051010 etch_d-i daily cd image build from
http://cdimage.debian.org/pub/cdimage-testing/etch_d-i/i386/current/debian-testing-i386-netinst.iso.

network configuration fails because /bin/netcfg depends on
/lib/libiw.so.28, which has not yet propagated into etch. this can be
remedied by softlinking to libiw.so.27, which is the currently installed
version in etch

ln -s /lib/libiw.so.27 /lib/libiw.so.28

after creating this link, installation of etch from the daily cd
build worked flawlessly. should versioned dependencies be added to
netcfg so that this type of effect does not happen? if you need any
more info or details, please ask.

peace
Mike Gilbert

Bug#333244: busy cursor problem

2005-10-10 Thread prosolutions
Package: openbox
Version: 3.2-7

Some application launches are creating a busy cursor in Openbox. For
example, even when I have "launch feedback" totally disabled for an
application file type in konqueror, when konqueror launches the app and
openbox is running, there is a busy cursor which lasts for about 30
seconds. This problem does not exist when using gnome, kde, or other
window managers. There is no way to disable or prevent the busy cursor
from within Openbox and, inasmuch as it renders the mouse pointer
inoperable, it is a problem.

It resolves the mysql "postgres" user issue, that looks a lot cleaner.
However I cannot install db-test twice. The scripts do not realise
the difference between a new install and a re-install of the same
version of the package. dpkg-reconfigure will also fail.

However, it is pretty simple to fix, check $3 and if it exists do
not use the create scripts.

Alternatively, you could run something like
psql -c '\dT' $dbname
and check if any lines returned.
Or have some sort of state stored somewhere.

If you have emacs keybindings turned on, it deletes everything before
the cursor. Otherwise, I don't know.

The problem goes away when I compile from source and uncomment the

Bug#206691: Let's Upload!!

2005-10-10 Thread Marco Presi

Hi Vittorio,

I looked at your packages (both: python-gd and matplotlib), and
I think they are quite good!

I did only few changes to their control files (mainly,
cosmetics):

-) added myself and Alexandre as uploaders
-) added few modifications to pkgs descriptions

Then I've updated the changelogs to close ITP and ITA bugs, and
increased version numbering (don't know if it is really
necessary, but it may help people to notice that the pkgs are
entering in Debian).

Last quick question: you build only for py 2.3 and 2.4 is there
a reason for this? In case, any objections if I extend to py 2.2 too?

I am testing the pksg, and in the meantime, I am uploading them
to http://people.debian.org/~zufus: take a look, and then tell
me if you see problems, then in case, tomorrow I can do the
upload.

Ciao Ciao

Marco

P.S: I would be also interested, in the future, to convert
debian/rules to cdbs.. what do you think about it?

Bug#332718: mozilla-firefox: ctrl-w (close tab) sometimes fails

Eric Dorland wrote:

When I have a lot of tabs open, sometimes using ctrl-w to close the active
tab does not work. In this case it is almost always fixed by pressing tab
(after which ctrl-w does work)...but then the next tab may have the same
problem. I think depending on which widget is active the ctrl-w may sometimes
be ignored...the signal handler for this key isn't "high enough" in the
widget hierarchy to catch all keypresses.

Well in text fields ctrl-w tends to do other things than close the
current tab. Could that be what you're seeing?

Possibly (likely maybe).

But...

1. What would ctrl-w do other than close the tab?

2. Is there another key combination that will close the tab and isn't
going to be muted? If not there should be.

No problem -- I hadn't quite gotten around to looking into what you

aspell-en.

Yeah, I know that is. I've sent email before without making sure my

were a bit off before. :-) Well, it happens to the best of us!

I'll retest once my local mirror gets the new dictionaries-common

I may add features like these to VM some day, but these packages

Gar, sorry. This may wait until I package the latest upstream version,
which now has autoconf support; I'm inclined to avoid messing with it
directly until then.

Hopefully that's only a month or so out, though. If it's important to get
this fixed sooner, patches are accepted.

This seems to be some deficiency in kernel-package.
/usr/share/kernel-package/rules defines for xxs1500

kimage := vmlinux.srec
...
kimagedest = $(INT_IMAGE_DESTDIR)/vmlinux-$(version)

and the same kimage value is put in the package postinst. But later
in the postinst

# Paranoid check to make sure that the correct value is put in there
if(! $kimage) { $kimage = "vmlinuz"; } # Hmm. empty
elsif ($kimage =~ m/^b?zImage$/o) { $kimage = "vmlinuz"; } # these produce

elsif ($kimage =~ m/^vmlinux$/o)  { my $nop = $kimage;   }
else { $kimage = "vmlinuz"; } # Default

the default of "vmlinuz" is chosen, which leads to the vmlinux/vmlinuz
mismatch noted above.

Bug#333157: libwxgtk2.6-0: hangs on copy/paste/click, crashing mouse

2005-10-10 Thread Ron

Hi,

There seem to be a lot of conflicting factoids in the reports
of what is actually going wrong. Either way though, I can think
of very few possibilities for wx to 'freeze' X, except through
a grab gone wrong, and there shouldn't be very many possibilities
for that in wx itself...

On Mon, Oct 10, 2005 at 08:24:55PM +0200, Stefan Potyra wrote:

So you (most probably) have a race which appears to be dependent
on the order in which XEvents arrive. Logging them and seeing
which combination causes the trouble may be both elucidating and
helpful for reproducing it on demand.

Defining better what you mean by "keyboard still works" may give
you some clues. There is a difference between it "not working" and
just not having the focus somewhere useful.

Does killing the app remotely restore the keyboard too?

Everything from here up (at least) would seem completely bogus.
Which leaves me to think that it is either a gtk (or lower) bug,
or wx has set an invalid callback or similar, leading gtk to
smash the stack.

Using a debug glib and examining what you have in frame #3 below
might shed some more light on things.

Sure, usually after several days. By that time, millions of mails could
have accumulated if the attacker wants that. For any kind of mail serice
provider, this would be a serious threat. And I don't know any MTA which
can cope easily with a huge number of stalled messages (read: many
thousand stalled messages).

Though I respect your sceptic view on this, I still think this is a
possible DoS on the mailserver which uses the spampd instance. Not an
extremely serious threat (since relatively few mailservers use spampd
and the attacker would need to know it is used, which is hard to
detect), but still a threat.

>>Apart from that, this is bug is at least a serious problem, since it might
>>deny perfectly legal mails from reaching the envelope recipient.
>
> Spam filters usually do that...

Not this one. spampd is usually only used to _mark_ spam, not to reject it.

Sven

PS: Though online again (yippie), I still can't work on this problem
(not being able to log into any of my Linux boxes right now). I still
try to recover full network access. At the very latest, I should be able
to get to this problem some more when back in the office Tuesday next week.

Bug#333236: base: Debian menu not automatically updated

2005-10-10 Thread Christophe Grandsire
Package: base
Severity: normal

When adding packages with a menu file for the Debian menu (with Synaptic
or simply apt-get), the Debian menu is not automatically updated. To have it
updated, one must run update-menus separately in a root terminal
(*after* stopping Synaptic, otherwise one gets a message that dpkg is
blocking update-menus).

The Debian menu should be automatically updated without need for
specific user action besides installing a package.

Bug#333234: sawfish: Sawfish should build-depend on libxinerama-dev

2005-10-10 Thread Paul Evans
Package: sawfish
Version: 1:1.3+cvs20050709-5
Severity: important

The sawfish package does not currently depend on libxinerama in any way.
This means that the currently-available package from debian.org has
probably been built without xinerama support. By just obtaining the source
locally and rebuilding, where libxinerama-dev is installed, I manage to
fix some xinerama-related bugs, where xinerama was being ignored.

Namely, this was Bug #327878 which, when sawfish is built with xinerma
support, is no longer an issue.

Well in text fields ctrl-w tends to do other things than close the

Bug#333231: flex generates a C file with improper macro defn; broke Bison 2.1

2005-10-10 Thread Paul Eggert
Package: flex
Version: 2.5.31-34
Tags: patch upstream

flex 2.5.31-34 generates a C file that does not conform to the C
standard, because the code invokes gram_wrap() even though the
gram_wrap macro expects an argument.

This bug is also present in Debian stable, and its presence broke
Bison 2.1 because I used Debian stable flex to build Bison. The bug's
effect is described in
;
that message is for Bison 1.875 but the same problem occurs in the
Bison 2.1 distribution because of the bug in flex 2.5.31-31.
(I used flex 2.5.31-31 to generate both Bison 1.875 and Bison 2.1.)

I see from

that the file
flex-2.5.31/{arch}/flex/flex--debian/flex--debian--2.5/[EMAIL

logs the presence of the bug, but there isn't any patch installed. I
suspect the patch got lost somehow so I'm filing this bug report.

several things:

* a blank in front of "--" is missing
* "full_ly_ symbolic computation program"
* what are "bigfloats" in _symbolic_ computation?
* there is a "debugger" too much in the 3rd sentence.
* "1970s" without the "'".

* how does the "fairly" from the short description relate to the
extended? Which part is not "complete"?
* I have a reasonable background in mathematics, and have never heard
of "Todd-coxeter" - what's that? (It sounds quite special among those
other rather general terms.)

Bug#333230: ITP: bsdtar -- tar(1) from FreeBSD, with read support for tar/zip/ISO9660/cpio using libarchive

2005-10-10 Thread John Goerzen
Package: wnpp
Severity: wishlist
Owner: John Goerzen <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

* Package name: bsdtar
  Version : 1.02.034
  Upstream Author : [EMAIL PROTECTED]
* URL : http://people.freebsd.org/~kientzle/libarchive/
* License : BSD
Description : tar(1) from FreeBSD, with read support for
tar/zip/ISO9660/cpio using libarchive

The bsdtar program has a number of advantages over previous tar
 implementations:
 .
 * Library. Since the core functionality is in a library, it can be
used by other tools, such as pkg_add.
 .
 * Automatic format detection. Libarchive automatically detects the
compression (none/gzip/bzip2) and format (old tar, ustar, gnutar,
pax, cpio, iso9660, zip) when reading archives. It does this for
   any data source.
 .
 * Pax Interchange Format Support. This is a POSIX/SUSv3 extension to
the old "ustar" tar format that adds arbitrary extended attributes
to each entry. Does everything that GNU tar format does, only
   better.
 .
 * Handles file flags, ACLs, arbitrary pathnames, etc. Pax interchange
format supports key/value attributes using an easily-extensible
technique. Arbitrary pathnames, group names, user names, file sizes
are part of the POSIX standard; libarchive extends this with
support for file flags, ACLs, and arbitrary device numbers.
 .
 * GNU tar support. Libarchive reads most GNU tar archives. If there
is demand, this can be improved further.
 .
 * BSD license.

Bug#333227: eblook(GNU/k*BSD): FTBFS: out of date config.sub/config.guess

2005-10-10 Thread Aurelien Jarno
Package: eblook
Version: 1.6-1
Severity: important

Hello,

The current version of eblook fails to build on GNU/kFreeBSD,
because of outdated config.guess and config.sub.

The versions of config.guess and config.sub in eblook are too
old to correctly support Debian GNU/k*BSD. A version is needed
from this year, which is available in the autotools-dev packages
that are in current sarge, and sid.

You can simply copy them manually, but it can also be done
automatically using the method described in
/usr/share/doc/autotools-dev/README.Debian.gz

It would also be nice if you can ask upstream to update
config.guess and config.sub in their next release.

Thanks for your cooperation.

Bug#333226: ITP: dibbler -- portable, open DHCPv6 implementation (server, relay and client)

2005-10-10 Thread Tomasz Mrugalski
Package: wnpp

Owner: Tomasz Mrugalski <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

* Package name: dibbler
  Version : 0.4.1
  Upstream Author : Tomasz Mrugalski <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
* URL : http://klub.com.pl/dhcpv6/
* License : GPL
Description : portable, open DHCPv6 implementation (server, relay and
client)

There will be 4 packages: -client, -server, -relay and -doc.

Package: dibbler-server
This is a DHCPv6 server. It supports both stateful (i.e. IPv6 address
granting) as well as stateless (i.e. options granting) autoconfiguration
modes of DHCPv6 protocol. Relays are also supported. Install Dibbler
server if you'd like to have IPv6 hosts automatically configured in
 your network.

Package: dibbler-client
This is a DHCPv6 client. It supports both statefull (i.e. IPv6 address
granting) as well as stateless (i.e. option granting) autoconfiguration
modes of the DHCPv6 protocol. Besides basic capabilities, it supports
various DHCPv6 extensions, e.g. option renewal. Install Dibber client if
you want to obtain IPv6 addresses and options from DHCPv6 server.

Package: dibbler-relay
This is a DHCPv6 relay. Relays are used as proxies between server and
clients. Main advantage is the ability to support multiple remote links
using only one server. Install Dibbler relay if you want to serve
multiple not physically connected links with one DHCPv6 server.

Package: dibbler-doc
User's Guide as well as Developer's Guide is included in this package.
That documentation covers all aspects of Dibbler DHCPv6 implementation:
  - server, client and relay usage and configuration
  - various tips and frequently asked questions
  - internal structure/code description and hints for developers

That's a bug in the buildd's setup and zmailer for requiring

Why are you not using gcc-4.0 4.0.2-2, the current version of gcc-4.0 in
unstable?

What is the last version of the compiler that you are able to use to
successfully compile this code in this environment with no other changes?

Have you confirmed that this bug exists in gcc-snapshot?

Bug#332545: X error prevents wine startup

2005-10-10 Thread Kevin Locke
Although this is probably old news to everyone "in the know", this bug
appears to have been resolved upstream (as Marc Haber noted earlier).
The bugreport http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3336 seems to
suggest that it is solvable with either a patch to X.org or by updating
wine.

Bug#333222: ITP: libarchive -- Single libary to read/write tar, cpio, pax, zip, etc. files

2005-10-10 Thread John Goerzen

  Version : 1.02.033

Part of FreeBSD
* URL : :pserver:[EMAIL PROTECTED]:/home/ncvs
* License : BSD
Description : Single libary to read/write tar, cpio, pax, zip, etc. files

The libarchive library provides a flexible interface for reading and
writing streaming archive files such as tar and cpio. The library is
inherently stream-oriented; readers serially iterate through the archive,
writers serially add things to the archive. In particular, note that
there is no built-in support for random access nor for in-place
 modification.
 .
libarchive can read at least five tar formats, four cpio formats,
ISO9660 CD/DVD images (including RockRidge extensions), and ZIP
 files.
 .
libarchive can write two tar formats (ustar and pax), one cpio format
(odc/POSIX), and two types of shar files (with and without uuencoding).

Bug#333219: galeon: crashes when loading a particular website (http://www.jobcrawler.it)

2005-10-10 Thread Francesco Poli
Package: galeon
Version: 1.3.20-1
Severity: normal

Hi!

I recently noted that Galeon crashes whenever I try to load
http://www.jobcrawler.it

Steps to reproduce:

$ galeon -n http://www.jobcrawler.it

Galeon main window appears, the only tab starts to load the website main
page, then a dialog shows up, saying

| The Application "galeon" has quit unexpectedly.
|
| You can inform the developers of what happened to help them fix
| it. Or you can restart the application right now.

Please note that:

* I don't know if this is Debian-specific

* Mozilla works fine on this website (no errors or crashes with
  "mozilla http://www.jobcrawler.it";)

* The crash is reproducible with a newly created user (on my Debian sarge
  machine)

* The crash is reproducible even from an already started Galeon with
other tabs in use: it crashes as soon as I open a new tab in order
  to load http://www.jobcrawler.it

* The crash does _not_ show up with Galeon on another Debian sarge machine
  (can't understand why)

* I don't know if this is also a security issue (please bring this bug to
the attention of the Debian security team and raise the severity if this
  is the case!)

Here's a backtrace:

I have issued an ITP but I am still working through some review
comments on the libibverbs package.

However it seems strange to me for the "rdma" group to be created by
installing a separate package. What will udev do with a GROUP rule if
the libibverbs package is not installed? How will a user realize they
need libibverbs installed to get the right ownership of the /dev files?

Are there other debian packages that create groups as part of their install?

I don't think any other distributions have rules to create these
devices yet. I have opened a similar bug with Fedora but there's no
definitive response yet.

OK, if you are going to maintain the other relevant package then I can
just use the name you will decide.

Why should they care about devices not having the right group if they
did not install the tools to use them?

Plently. Read the relevant parts of policy.

chfn/chsh without cmdline parameters work interactively
so you _should_ use ptys/expect-like program to script
them (or use cmdline parameters). It's common issue
with a lot of Unix utils.

for example, here:
> aragorn:~# chfn rmh | cat
> ^C
> aragorn:~# chfn rmh 2>&1 | cat
> ^C
you see The Classical Effect of Pipe Being
Block-Buffered. I.e. without using smth. like
fsync()/fflush() you won't see output until pipe is
closed gracefully or buffer (4096 usually) gets full.

WRT "Full Name [rmh]:" prompt being or not being
printed depending on type of stdin, that's another
issue though, but also unrelated to "passwd" pkg IMHO.

P.S.
Difference between:
> aragorn:~# chfn rmh
> Changing the user information for rmh
> Enter the new value, or press ENTER for the default
> Full Name [rmh]:^C
and the next:
> aragorn:~# cat | chfn rmh
> Changing the user information for rmh

must be contained just in the following code:
>   printf ("\t%s [%s]: ", prompt, buf);
> if (fgets (newf, maxsize, stdin) != newf)

As you can see no "bogus" isatty() is there.

P.P.S. I think we should close the bug.

Bug#319179: xterm: utf8Fonts recource stopped working in xorg

2005-10-10 Thread Barasz Mihaly
Package: xterm
Version: 6.8.2.dfsg.1-8
Followup-For: Bug #319179

I have the same problem as the original reporter. Namely,
xterm.vt100.utf8Fonts stopped working after xfree86 -> xorg upgrade.

You can reproduce the bug as follows:

$ xrdb -merge <<'EOF'
xterm.vt100.font: -misc-fixed-medium-r-normal--20-200-75-75-c-100-iso8859-2
xterm.vt100.utf8Fonts.font:
-misc-fixed-medium-r-normal--20-200-75-75-c-100-iso10646-1
EOF

Then start an uxterm. Characters outside the iso8859-1 character set
will appear blank.

(Note that I defined the resources for the instance 'xterm' and not for
the class 'XTerm', as it won't affect the uxterm (which sets the class
name to 'UXTerm', but still has the instance name 'xterm')).

As I understand from the description, the utf8Fonts.font should override
the plain 'font' if the resource utf8 is set (and it is set), which
clearly doesn't happen here.

Also note that I have locale hu_HU (and uxterm sets it to hu_HU.UTF-8),
and I don't use the 'locale: true' resource of xterm.
But this is the only meanigful situation in which utf8Fonts could be
used, because if one use the 'locale: true' setting, then only one
(unicode) font is needed for all locales.
On the other hand this "note" is not important, since utf8Fonts has no
effect also when 'locale: true' is used.

And please note that the above config works with xfree86 version of
xterm (4.3.0.dfsg.1-1).

[EMAIL PROTECTED]/dpkg--devel--1.13--patch-28
has a patch for this bug (At least for C, didn't know if I should update
the translations as well?)

Bug#289790: remove imlib+png2

2005-10-10 Thread Thomas Bushnell BSG

Jeroen van Wolffelaar <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> writes:

At Steve Langasek's suggestion a different strategy is being
implemented. The imlib source package now provides a compatibility
library for gdk-imlib1. Also, gdk-imlib11-dev Provides: gdk-imlib1-dev.

It is therefore important that no uploads be made of imlib+png2 lest
they collide badly with the versioning.

It would be good if imlib+png2 could be removed post haste now (to
avoid confusion) that this upload is done.

Bug#333218: gnupg: ftbfs [sparc] build installs random mail-transport-agent which failed

2005-10-10 Thread Blars Blarson
Package: gnupg
Version: 1.4.2-2
Severity: serious
Justification: no longer builds from source

gnupg has mail-transport-agent as a build dependancy without specifying
a desired one first as an alternative. The sparc buildd randomly chose
zmailer which failed to install so the build failed.

I can't think of a good reason to require mail-transport-agent as a
build dependancy. Building should not depend on being able to send
mail.

Setting up libldap2-dev (2.1.30-12) ...
Setting up zmailer (2.99.56-2) ...
The file /etc/mailname should contain the domain- or hostname
visible on all outgoing mail and news messages. Currently,
that file isn't present. Please enter the mail name of your
system: dpkg: error processing zmailer (--configure):

Bug#333216: slrn: ftbfs [sparc] build-depends on mail-transport-agent without alternative

2005-10-10 Thread Blars Blarson
Package: slrn
Version: 0.9.8.1pl1-11
Severity: serious
Justification: no longer builds from source

slrn build-depends on mail-transport-agent without specifying a
prefered alternative first. This leads to random build failures,
since at least one alternative is not installable non-interactivly.
(In this case, zmailer failed to install for other reasons, but it
fails later if it's dependancies could be met.)

Bug#333207: wamerican-large: new upstream release 6 available as of August 10, 2004

2005-10-10 Thread David Coe
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

Hi, Florian.

If you want to adopt it (the scowl source package), it's yours.
I'm still interested, but have too much else to do, so I won't miss
it too much.

If you have any questions about the way it's packaged/built,
feel free to ask.

If you decide you don't want to adopt scowl, let me know, and
I'll try to update it sometime soon.

Thanks.
