Though evince doesn't appear in the contents, it is really evince that has been run (and appears in ps output). I see what is happening. There is no security issue there, only inconvenience. There is *potential* security/data-loss problem, because the following points are cumulated: 1. Firefox runs a program (evince) while announcing something else. 2. The end user doesn't necessarily know that and doesn't necessarily even know GNOME's evince (he doesn't necessarily run GNOME: this is my case). 3. Because of point 2, the end user may have installed a program (possibly written by himself) named evince that could do destructive things. Of course, you may wonder whether or not this is likely to occur somewhere in practice, but évince is a French word that means oust. IMHO, it is important that this bug is fixed before the next stable release (in fact, more for the inconvenience than for the potential security/data-loss problem). Remove the xulrunner-1.9-gnome-support for a quick work around. OK, thanks for the information, but note that this is not possible on machines shared by several users, as some users may need it. Can you try the attached patch against xulrunner ? This means the next release, which is expected to be available latest 21st of July 2008, does finally support AqBanking 3.x. Bug#489920: [pkg-wpa-devel] Bug#489920: madwifi no longer supported, ath_pci doesn't work anymore

Madwifi and ath5k support the WEXT backend, it just so happens that ath5k doesn't work at all very well yet. I've been happy for years with the ath_pci driver and madwifi backend. When I try the wext backend, the driver cannot make an association, wavemon keeps showing an empty ESSID, and the invalid network ID counter keeps counting upwards. If I revert to the madwifi private backend, it works fine. Did you agree with the discussion put forward in referenced thread and #487585? I suspect this is a duplicate of #487585. Please confirm, so that the bug reports may be merged. Yes looks like it, sorry. I now wonder how to move forward. I don't have connectivity on my laptop anymore and have to type this elsewhere, so getting debug information is going to require a lot of extra work. I'd appreciate if my hand was held a bit. :) Section 4. Troubleshooting of /usr/share/doc/wpasupplicant/README.modes.gz is a starting point. A debug log of wpa_supplicant may be valuable should you report problems to madwifi.org bug tracking system. http://madwifi.org/wiki/TicketSubmissionGuidelines These existing tickets may be related: http://madwifi.org/ticket/275 http://madwifi.org/ticket/1817 Madwifi also has a mountain of debugging knobs to play with, but I am not familiar with them. The wiki on madwifi.org, or support channels (eg. irc, mailing list) may be of value. http://madwifi.org/wiki/Resources Also note that the most active Madwifi upstream developer, Matthew aka mentor Bell is also assuming an active role in Debian maintaining the pkg-madwifi packaging. It may be worth persuing this problem via a bug report against the madwifi-source Debian package to open dialog with him. I think I am correct in saying that Matthew would prefer to debug WEXT/scanning related problems than reintroduce and depend on the legacy crap. Having said that, #487585 does contain an invitation for outside help should the copy of madwifi headers be re-introduced into wpasupplicant package for the purpose of re-activating the driver_madwifi wpa_supplicant backend. (I am also going to have less time to spend maintaining wpasupplicant package soon, so extra help would be appreciated regardless of this issue...) PS: I went a bit berserk after seeing that the latest wpasupplicant in sid has UNRELEASED in the changelog. I am sorry about that, but I do not have the rights in Debian to tag releases, and only caught that error after it had been dispatched by the uploader. Bug#490051: unhelpful changelog information
Package: udev Version: 0.124-2 Severity: minor Some time ago my system was rendered unbootable by udev. This morning I saw the new 0.124-2 upload with the following changelog entry: * Automatic propagation of return values is annoying. (Closes: #489839) Of course I guessed that the propagation of return values was what was causing the script to fail. However I do not expect everyone to understand this, and some people might be afraid to reboot because they don't know that the issue is fixed. Thus I suggest changing the changelog entry to the following: * Fix premature initscript failure that was rendering some systems unbootable. Bug#490053: emacs info command (C-h i) does not find org-mode info, whereas standalone info (1) does
Package: org-mode Version: 6.05-2 Severity: normal -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA512 Hi, I am using emacs 22 as delivered with debian sid/unstabel as of today. After installation of org-mode the info utility shows two entries for org listed in the info directory:: * Org Mode: (emacs-22/org). Outline-based notes management and organizer * Org Mode: (org). Outline-based notes management and organizer The first entry descibes org-mode 4.67 as delivered as part of emacs 22, the second org-mode 6.05a as delivered with package org-mode. But when shown in emacs (command info c-h i) it shows: * Org Mode Outline-based notes management and organizer * Org Mode Outline-based notes management and organizer Both entries look exactly the same and in fact, if selected, both entries show a desciption of org-mode 4.67. I do not know how to read the info for org-mode 6.05a within emacs. It would be nice if both entries showed the respective version number and would lead to the respective info file(s). Bug#490055: please update dependency on msttcorefonts
Package: eeepc-acpi-scripts Version: 1.0.3 Severity: wishlist Hi, The package 'msttcorefonts', which several of your binary packages Suggest, has changed name. It is now called ttf-mscorefonts-installer, to be in line with other TrueType font packages in Debian. Also, recently the ttf-liberation package has entered Debian. This is a package containing free variants of the Arial, Courier and Times New Roman fonts. This is obviously a better alternative to users since it's in main and doesn't require a separate download. Please do one of the following: 1) If your package only needs Arial, Courier or Times New Roman, change the Suggests to: ttf-liberation | ttf-mscorefonts-installer 2) If the suggests is specifically about non-{Arial,Courier,Times) fonts, change it to: ttf-mscorefonts-installer thanks, Thijs (msttcorefonts maintainer) -- System Information: Debian Release: lenny/sid APT prefers unstable APT policy: (500, 'unstable') Architecture: powerpc (ppc) Kernel: Linux 2.6.25-2-powerpc Locale: LANG=nl_NL.UTF-8, LC_CTYPE=nl_NL.UTF-8 (charmap=UTF-8) Shell: /bin/sh linked to /bin/bash -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Hi, * Nico Golde [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2008-07-09 13:37]: * Guillem Jover [EMAIL PROTECTED] [2008-07-09 09:19]: This game creates the file projectL.prf on the current working dir every time it's run. Bug#489523: pidgin-otr: key generation uses too much entropy from /dev/random
I'm not a pidgin-otr user (yet), but some random comments: What kind of key is generated here? If it is a long-term private key (RSA etc) then using /dev/random is likely the right thing. Generally, I agree that it would be useful to speed up the randomness process. Btw, consider doing something like: gcry_control (GCRYCTL_ENABLE_QUICK_RANDOM, 0); Then it will read from /dev/urandom even for public-key generation. Of course, you are probably on your own wrt to security of these keys, and you'll need to look into the libgcrypt code to understand exactly what this does. /Simon -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Bug#486875: [Pkg-net-snmp-devel] Bug#486875: snmplib: PATCH: 1806336: fix -LS option parsing
Hi Mathieu, Current version doesn't allow -LS option as described in the snmpcmd manpage. This broke some of my test machines with invalid syslog facility: - while using -LS 0-4 d which is working with current stable version. As I don't want to allow messages of priority 5 (this will fill in my syslog), I'm marking this as important. Be careful of packaging anything from the current CVS; the API is in the process of undergoing major changes (to 4.0.0), and until that work is finished, I wouldn't recommend releasing anything. Bug#490062: Includes Message-ID header twice
Package: mantis Version: 1.1.2-1 Severity: normal Tags: confirmed Hi, I just noticed that mails produced by mantis contain a duplicate Message-ID header. That is probably also true for older mantis versions (like 1.0.8). Please note, that I'm tracking it, although it doesn't affect a version in Debian so far. However the version will be in Debian soon. The problem is because mantis wants to add Message-ID headers in order to enable threading. Bug#489849: context: texexec --listing --dvipdfmx uses pdftex instead of dvipdfmx
How do you come to the idea that --dvipdfmx does something useful? I have read the man page of texexec, which mentions the option: --dvipdfmx, --dvipdfm, --dpx, --dpm Use the TeX engine (e.g. pdftex or pdfetex) to make a DVI file and dvipdfmx(1) to turn it into PDF. An example where the option works: Test file test.tex: \starttext test \stoptext Command line: texexec --dvipdfmx test The last lines of the output, some of which is from dvipdfmx: ** WARNING ** Could not open config file fontmapsx. test.dvi - test.pdf [1] 1901 bytes written TeXExec | runtime: 4.855625 Moreover, pdfinfo reports dvipdfmx as producer of test.pdf, so I conclude that it was generated by dvipdfmx. For the short term, this seems a simple fix. * in the long run it might be an idea to stop building libcgi-fast-perl from the perl source package, add Fast.pm to libcgi-pm-perl again, and create a dummy transitional package with the usual conflicts/provides/replaces dance for libcgi-fast-perl from the libcgi-pm-perl source package; Brendan and Niko, what do you think about this idea? For 5.10, I moved the module to the vendor directory which on reflection was probably a bad idea (debian/rules:233-236). I'd say that the simplest solution would be to just reverse that decision, which would allow libcgi-pm-perl to provide a newer version without the path conflict. --bod -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. In this case, I don’t understand your patch. Why are you turning the g_slice_new in g_new0 instead of fixing the wrong g_free’s? There is 2 ways to fix the bug: either use g_slice functions for both allocations and releases everywhere for this varible, or use g_new0/g_free everywhere for this variable. My patch implements the second way. I thought it was not possible to use the g_slice functions because g_slice_free() wants the type as parameter. The type is not available in the file where the free is done because it is declared as static in the other file. I was not aware that g_slice_free1() exists and does not require the type. -- Alban -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of unsubscribe. Trouble? Contact [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Bug#465902: [pkg-cryptsetup-devel] Bug#465902: Works for me!
David Härdeman wrote: On Wed, July 9, 2008 07:28, Thomas Luzat wrote: I just wanted to tell you that the patches (cryptsetup, initramfs-tools, dropbear) work for me. It would be nice to see the dropbear patch applied to the next version and an extended CryptoRoot.HowTo in cryptsetup once the dropbear patches are in. For the cryptsetup part it's not a question whether the patches work or not, because the approach they use should not be necessary anymore. Right. What I meant was the askpass binary here, which works for me to unlock my root after having locked in through dropbear. Given that you can now unlock your root by using cat /lib/cryptsetup/passfifo or echo -n ... /lib/cryptsetup/passfifo without having to kill any processes it looks to me as if #465902 can be closed, which is my main point relating to this bug report besides giving feedback on that askpass works, given that there were no further mails in the BTS after your request for testing cryptsetup. The only reason that I can see not to close the bug report would be if you wanted to replace that cat/echo by some script within the cryptsetup package. Of course one might argue if such a script 1) is necessary and 2) whether it should belong to cryptsetup or dropbear. I would tend to say cryptsetup here, because without cryptsetup it wouldn't make any sense. The question is rather if the dropbear initramfs script can be adapted to use the askpass functionality that we've added to cryptsetup in order to support this functionality. No changes should be necessary to cryptsetup anymore. Right, cryptsetup is ok. dropbear doesn't strictly need adaptation for askpass as shown above, even though that might be convenient. It only really needs the last patch attached to #465903 to make it into the initramfs at all. Thomas, you need to check with Chris on the status of updated patches. As far as I can tell there are no open issues with the one for dropbear (which is the only one missing), but I might try to get some info from Chris and especially Gerrit Pape (dropbear maintainer) why there is no progress. Bug#489849: context: texexec --listing --dvipdfmx uses pdftex instead of dvipdfmx
On Mi, 09 Jul 2008, Braun Gábor wrote: How do you come to the idea that --dvipdfmx does something useful? I have read the man page of texexec, which mentions the option: --dvipdfmx, --dvipdfm, --dpx, --dpm Use the TeX engine (e.g. pdftex or pdfetex) to make a DVI file and dvipdfmx(1) to turn it into PDF. An example where the option works: Test file test.tex: \starttext test \stoptext Ahhh slowly I got the point. The switch --dvipdfmx DOES work, but NOT in combination with --listing. Well, I am not completely surprised. I guess I will forward it to the context list and let it rest in peace. Bug#489849: texexec --listing --dvipdfmx don't work together
forwarded 489849 [EMAIL PROTECTED] thanks Hi Hans, Taco, all, we got a minor bug report about the fact that texexec --listing --dvipdfmx does not work together. Meaning that with --listing the output is generated with pdftex, and not with dvipdfmx. Maybe you consider that as a feature, and honestly I don't see a reason why one wants to switch the engine for a listing, but anyway, here I forward it ;-) Best wishes Norbert --- Dr. Norbert Preining [EMAIL PROTECTED]Vienna University of Technology Debian Developer [EMAIL PROTECTED] Debian TeX Group gpg DSA: 0x09C5B094 fp: 14DF 2E6C 0307 BE6D AD76 A9C0 D2BF 4AA3 09C5 B094 --- YADDLETHORPE (vb.) Bug#490005: [Pkg-kde-extras] Bug#490005: [ktorrent] ktorrent requires many kde4 packages
Alle mercoledì 9 luglio 2008, Ana Guerrero ha scritto: Alle mercoledì 9 luglio 2008, hai scritto: The KDE3 version is still available as ktorrent2.2 AFAICT. Michael ktorrent of kde3 have been renamed ktorrent2.2, there is already part of KDE 4 in unstable (and even testing!), that are perfeclty installable along with your KDE 3 system without breaking anything (or that we home :D). It is not full KDE 4, just the libraries. Ana Dear Developers, Thank you for your quick reply. From your message I understand that the solution is simple, however maybe it was better to rename the new ktorrent (v3.x) instead of the old one (v2.2). This just seems matter of personal choice, but I've been confused by it (I admit I'm a poor user :)). If you don't want to change the package name, then you can close this bug just now. Ciao! Bug#490014: libtachyon-0.98: wrong section
Actually, the package I uploaded does have the library in section libs, though the first version did not. I replied to the archive mail asking the ftpmasters to change the override file when I uploaded this version, so I think we just need to wait for them to act. I'll fix the longdescription next time I do a tachyon upload. -Tim Abbott On Wed, 9 Jul 2008, Gerfried Fuchs wrote: Package: libtachyon-0.98 Version: 0.98~beta.dfsg-1 Severity: normal Hi! The library belongs in the libs section instead of math. You will also need to reply to the archive mail once you've changed that so that ftp-masters edit the override file accordingly to really make this change happen. Furthermore, the longdescription of this library package is just the same as the one from tachyon. Please don't only mention it in the short description that this is the shared libraries package but also in the long description. I would guess you can skip the second paragraph in favour of adding the hint that this is the shared library package. That way you get the new version to the users immediately while -2 might be stuck in NEW queue. Adding new packages needs manual processing by the ftp peoples. I Agree. Fixed. Uploaded. Looks great. Just need to find a kde3 machine and test it, else it is ready. If you feel like maintaining it in kde-extras team, this can also be arranged. Yes, I'd like to.
