Sounds like a plan. I'll wait for -40 to begin then check that in.

Bug#645923: biococoa.app: Crashes on startup

2011-10-19 Thread Andreas Tille
Hi Yavor,

do you have any hint how to fix this. I know you are quite experienced
with Cocoa Apps and my guess is you found the problem when doing regular
test in packages using this environment. If you do not have a hint how
to solve this problem I'm considering to drop those few biological
packages which are using this framework (after doing a poll about users
on our mailing list).

Kind regards

   Andreas.

Bug#645958: Patch is wrong (sorry)

2011-10-19 Thread Laurent Declercq
Package: ubuntu-dev-tools
Version: 0.101
Severity: normal

I'm sorry but my patch is wrong. I've forgot that we also can define a
customized sources.list by using the TEMPLATE_SOURCES variable via the ~/.mk-
sbuild.rc file (btw: not documented in the man).

Well, I'm a bit annoyed here. for now, we can setup a customized sources.list
in many ways:
- via the ~/.mk-sbuild.rc file by using the TEMPLATE_SOURCES variable
- via the ~/.mk-sbuild.sources
- via a specific distro based file, such as ~/.mk-sbuild.sources.debian

My question here is: In which order we must treat these possibilities when
several of them are being used?

I wait your answer to create the patch.

Thanks for interest.

Yeah, I see. A case for a trigger?
Or there is a dependency in the other direction, so maybe
a link could be managed relatively simply via the -source

or is there a particular reason you kept the .la file?

Bug#645978: Please build esound for multiarch

2011-10-19 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: esound
Version: 0.2.41-9
Severity: normal
Tags: patch
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu precise ubuntu-patch

Hi folks,

In Ubuntu, I've applied the attached patch to build esound for multiarch.
It's a straightforward transition, with no particular surprises; I've
updated the package to use debhelper compat level 9 at the same time, which
doesn't seem to have any negative impact on the build.

I should note that libesd.la is still listed on
http://release.debian.org/~aba/la/current.txt because libao references it.
So after applying this patch, libao will need a rebuild (or better yet, to
have its .la file dropped).

Thanks for considering the patch.

Yes, that seems reasonable. Let's do it (but after -39).

This may be related to bug #645470, as I see similar errors in the console.

My rationale for classifying this as important rather than normal
is because this is very commonly used functionality that has broken.

The code is included in 1.6.3. Uncertain whether it works as

Bug#645723: general: asks for root password instead of user password

2011-10-19 Thread Bob Proulx
Jimmy Li wrote:
> Apparently, anything that needs root asks for the root password instead of my
> user password. Apparently, it's using su instead of sudo.

The debian-installer will set up your system to use either su or sudo
depending upon whether you specified a root password or only a user
password. If you set a root password then it will set it up for su.
If you only set a user password then it will set it up for sudo. What
you describe is normal when the installer has been given a root
password.

This selection is controlled by the alternatives system for the
'libgksu-gconf-defaults' command. You can change this selection by
updating it to use sudo instead of su.

Documentation for the gksu library is available here:

  /usr/share/doc/libgksu2-0/README.Debian

Where it says:

The gksu library enables the user to run programs with root powers
using one of `su' or `sudo' as backend. If the application that uses
the library doesn't specify the backend it wants to use, the backend
will be selected through the `/apps/gksu/sudo-mode' boolean gconf
  option.

To change the selection to something different:

  # update-alternatives --config libgksu-gconf-defaults
  # update-gconf-defaults

> Just a moment ago, I had to manually re-add myself to the sudo
> group. Now sudo works, but all applications still ask for the root
> password instead of the user password.

You did not say if the use of su and the root password was a change in
behavior or if it has always been using su since system installation
time. But if it is a change then perhaps something updated the
gconf-defaults on your system recently.

The sudo configuration setup is only for sudo. It doesn't affect the
libgksu-gconf-defaults configuration. If sudo is to be used then of
course sudo itself needs to be configured and working too. Again the
debian-installer does this automatically if only a user password is
given at install time.

Hope this helps,
Bob

Bug#618904: Slapd hangs when creating new groups with GOsa

2011-10-19 Thread Pawel Wilk
Package: slapd
Version: 2.4.23-7.2
Severity: important

Slapd hangs when creating groups with GOsa. The only way
to restart the slapd is then to kill it with SIGKILL
and run the service it again.

The mentioned groups are RFC2307bis compliant objects
based on the object classes:

- groupOfNames,
- posixGroup.

They require at least one member attribute (2.5.4.31)
and if there is no member to add (i.e. because group is a POSIX
primary group refered only by gidNumber in user objects) then DN
of the very same group object is used.

So in case of DN: cn=group1,ou=groups,dc=my,dc=org
The group will have the initial member set to: cn=group1,ou=groups,dc=my,dc=org

I also have memberof module and overlay enabled (with refint) for
member and uniqueMember attributes.

taking photographs with a digital camera completely controlled from the
computer.

Using Entangle is as easy as 1,2,3…
* Connect camera
* Launch Entangle
* Shoot photos

With a sufficiently capable digital SLR camera Entangle allows:
* Trigger the shutter from the computer
* Live preview of scene before shooting
* Automatic download and display of photos as they are shot
* Control of all camera settings from computer

Entangle is Open Source software licensed under the GNU GPL v3+. It is
built on top of libgphoto using GTK-2 for its interface. It is fully
colour managed, auto-detecting system monitor profile and applying the
neccessary transforms when displaying images.

I think that is a much better idea indeed.

Will this require people to input their Launchpad credentials to submit
sync requests? I guess many DDs will not have such credentials.

Bug#645971: unattended-upgrades: dpkg-reconfigure fails to remove or modify 20auto-upgrades

2011-10-19 Thread Mike Eldridge
Package: unattended-upgrades
Version: 0.62.2
Severity: important

I'm building a number of preseeds for a large deployment I'll soon be
undertaking. As part of the deployment, I'm looking at employing this
package for automated security updates. When using dpkg-reconfigure to
enable the upgrades, I see output indicating that 20auto-upgrades has
been created in /etc/apt.conf/d. The contents of that file are:

APT::Periodic::Update-Package-Lists "1";
APT::Periodic::Unattended-Upgrade "1";

If I execute dpkg-reconfigure and select to NOT automatically install
updates, this file is unmodified. If I remove the package, the file
remains as well. Only a purge removes the file. I'm not sure if that
is a problem or not; I suspect that the missing unattended-upgrade
script would prevent the update.

At best, this behavior is counterintuitive. I'm unable to find any
reference to the debconf entry enable_auto_updates in any of the files
distributed with the package, so I am assuming that 20auto-upgrades is
the only switch that this functionality has. If so, this appears to be
a rather glaring bug preventing users from disabling automatic updates.

Note that the affected system was a system deployed via preseed.

OK, that makes sense. I need to create a new subpackage m17n-lib-mimx to

There is no origin url for the repository. mr register could configure it
with a dummy checkout command:

[tmp]
checkout = no url known for this repository

But then what if someone runs mr on a repository that has no origin url,
but does have some other remote url? It would be surprising for the above to
result, but mr can't go guessing about which other url to use in such a
case. So I think it's better that mr register not try to support your
case.

Yes, I didn't have time to fix the manpage (and I still don't).
Getting the software updated has higher priority for me (just for the
record, I am the implementer, upstream, of at least two information
extractors: the vimeo one and the xvideos, with some more to come).

Can you contribute corrected fixes for the manpage? The source from
which I am creating the manpage is quite readable and is at:

http://anonscm.debian.org/gitweb/?p=collab-maint/youtube-dl.git;a=blob;f=debian/youtube-dl.pod

If you update it, I will, of course, give you all the credits.

> If any of this should be sent upstream, let me know.

We have two issues here: the first is that the options are not
mentioned in the manpage (there are probably others too). With this,
you can help us (as our time is quite limited).

The other is that the options, don't work as expected. For this, it
would be great if you could file them in the "main" issue tracker at:

https://github.com/rg3/youtube-dl/issues

Thanks for filing the bugs, BTW.

Hi Tobias,

I've just applied a patch to iso-codes in Ubuntu to mark the iso-codes package
'Multi-Arch: foreign'; this indicates, per
, that iso-codes will satisfy the
dependencies of packages of other architectures when it's installed.

Since iso-codes has shared libraries as reverse dependencies, this change is
needed in order for multiarch to be used for those libraries in practice.

So the problem is probably that when make is run to dump a list of
makefile targets, DH_INTERNAL_OPTIONS is not populated with the packages
that are being built.

However, since those packages can potentially vary for each command in
the sequence, dh would need to run make more than it does now.

I think what you're doing is unnecessary and I am not motivated at all
to complicate dh with the necessary special caching that would be needed
to support it without badly slowing down everything else. Especially
since -arch and -indep override targets now exist (in 8.9.7).

Here the target exists no matter what, which will always work ok. Making
the target conditionally not exist is the problem.

Unfortunately, the problem is still there. I encountered it once
yesterday while trying to open a pdf file with 7.0.1-2.

Bug#645962: openal-soft: Please mark libopenal-data multi-arch: foreign

Hi folks,

Thanks for your work in supporting multiarch in openal-soft!

When testing libopenal1's multiarch support in Ubuntu, I found one glitch.
libopenal1 depends on libopenal-data, and even though libopenal-data is an
Architecture: all package, it needs to be marked Multi-Arch: foreign to be
recognized as satisfying the dependencies of packages of other architectures
besides the primary dpkg architecture.

(The messy details of why this is the case can be found in
.)

Please consider applying the attached patch in Debian, to complete the
multiarch transition for libopenal.

Thanks,

When i close xulrunner applications (I tested only icedove / iceweasel, but i
guess it's a xulrunner problem) program windows close but the processes remain
active and eats 100% cpu time.
This behaviour occurs on different profiles / different PCs (tested on a
desktop and a laptop, both 64bit unstable, 1 AMD based, 1 Intel based).
This occurs even on a empty profile (or in safe mode) just opening the default
page (about:home).
Apparently this don't cause any dataloss or any error in profile data, but it's
quite annoying as it makes opening new browser session impossibile.
How can i debug this situation further and provide more info?

That would be nice. You could create a branch (from lp:ubuntu-dev-tools)
and request a merge if you prefer Bazaar over sending patches to bug

Bug#645959: p11-kit looks in /usr/lib/$arch/pkcs11 for modules, nothing installs there?

2011-10-19 Thread Steve Langasek
Source: p11-kit
Version: 0.7-2
Severity: important
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu precise

Hi Andreas,

I see that the p11-kit package in unstable is converted for multiarch.
Great to see! However, it looks like libp11-kit0 is meant to integrate with
pkcs modules from other packages, all of which currently install to
/usr/lib/pkcs11 - whereas because the library is multiarched, it only looks
in /usr/lib/$(DEB_HOST_MULTIARCH)/pkcs11, and will never find these
modules.

Should libp11-kit0 declare a Breaks: against the versions of these packages
which install to /usr/lib/pkcs11, and a transition done? Or should
libp11-kit0 be patched to support looking up modules in both locations?

For reference, here is the list of packages affected according to the
Contents files for the archive:

beid-common
coolkey
gnome-keyring
libopencryptoki0
opencryptoki

Bug#645958: mk-sbuild: distro name based files not retrieved for customized sources.list

2011-10-19 Thread Laurent Declercq
Package: ubuntu-dev-tools
Version: 0.101
Severity: normal
Tags: upstream

In the mk-sbuild man (1), we can read the following:

   $HOME/.mk-sbuild.sources[.$DISTRO]
Can contain a customized sources.list. It will be read when
creating the schroot. If a file with ".ubuntu" or ".debian" is found (based
on the --distro argument) that file will use used instead. See
sources.list(5) for more details on the format.

Seem that for now, the [.$DISTRO] based file for customized sources.list are
not retrieved because not implemented in the script. Should be easy to fix. I
can provide a patch if you want.

BTW: Also, look at the typo issue in the man (... that file will use used
instead...)

This one did freeze the Xserver and required a reboot.

Three days before I had noticed the same "EQ overflowing" message but the
X server did not crash, only the app, and the system continued to work fine.

With the package versions below I can run applications like googleearth
and fgfs without encountering problems in the first minute or two of
operation, but it appears the problem has not completely gone away.

Ah, OK.
I thought it was the other way around: I hadn't found the time to read
the whole log of bug #642757, sorry.

Exactly.

True.
I don't know how common this scenario is, but it's true that
apt-listbugs is not able to save your day when that happens!
Unless an auxiliary bug report is filed against the package that should
not be upgraded, I mean.

I think that, currently, this is the best course of action.

Since xserver-xorg-core/2:1.11.1-1 is already in testing, a bug report
of severity grave against version 2:1.11.1-1 should not prevent future
migrations to testing of newer xserver-xorg-core versions (please
correct me, if I am wrong).

This bug report could be marked as blocked by #642757.
It will be possible to close it, as soon as a fixed version of
nvidia-graphics-drivers has migrated to testing.

> - Somebody should care enough to create such bug reports and close
> them as appropriate.

True, but it seems that a good number of people care about this issue...

Sure: a good descriptive bug report title would help users to determine
whether they may ignore the issue or not.

Maybe two entirely new BTS commands should be created, with mandatory
version info. Something like "exposed by" and "hidden by" (a better name
should perhaps be chosen).
That way, it could be agreed that:

bug #nnn (assigned to package B, found in version v1) affects package A
means that
the bug is actually present in B/v1, but causes breakage in package A
hence, do not upgrade to B/v1 or later, if you want to avoid breaking
package A

bug #nnn (assigned to package B, found in version v1) is exposed by
E/v2, is hidden by E/v3, is exposed by E/v4
means that
the bug is actually present in B/v1, but only shows up when a version
of package E which exposes the bug is installed
hence, do not upgrade to E/v2 or E/v4, if you want to avoid exposing
the bug in package B (it is however safe to upgrade to E/v3)

The versions of package E used in "exposed by" and "hidden by" would be
treated exactly like version tracking (which is driven by the "found"
and "fixed" commands): in other words, the changelog would be used to
determine the most recent descendant of version v, among the listed
"exposed" and "hidden" versions, and this descendant would determine
whether version v exposes or hides the bug.

I think that, if the above idea looks good to you and others, maybe the
opinion of debbugs developers should be asked.
If they think it's OK, a proper wishlist bug report should be filed
against the debbugs package.
Only after this new feature is implemented in the BTS, I will be able
to make use of it in apt-listbugs..

I guess I misread the title out of hopefulness. =) Still, this is good

Hi folks,

I've just pushed a patch to the adduser package in Ubuntu to mark it
Multi-Arch: foreign, in compliance with the plan for multiarch described at
. This package has various library
reverse dependencies, such as libsane, so this is needed for full multiarch
support in wheezy (in particular, for wine).

Thanks,

Bug#645956: bugs.debian.org: closed by message to owner does not include full close message

2011-10-19 Thread Paul Menzel
Package: bugs.debian.org
Severity: normal

Dear Debian folks,

when a report I submitted is closed the message contains the following.

It has been closed by John Dow .

Their explanation is attached below along with your original report.
If this explanation is unsatisfactory and you have not received a
better one in a separate message then please contact John Dow
 by
replying to this email.

Unfortunately only the header of the reply is attached and not the full
message. Therefore it is cumbersome to find out the reason why the
report was closed and it is a hassle to get the full mbox file to reply
correctly.

I guess this should be easy to fix.

#616067 [1] is an example for this behavior. Message [2] was not fully
attached to the closed by message I received. I am attaching the
message.

Thanks,

Paul

PS: »… by replying to this email.« is also ambiguous. Is the attached
message or the received message meant?

Did `changelog.Debian.gz` change somehow? Otherwise I cannot explain how
this could have happened. I could find the changelog entry but only for

Bug#432562: --system allow uppercase in usernames without --force-badname

2011-10-19 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: adduser
Version: 3.113
Followup-For: Bug #432562
User: ubuntu-de...@lists.ubuntu.com
Usertags: origin-ubuntu precise ubuntu-patch

Hi folks,

This bug was 'wontfixed' several years ago with the comment to wait for
feedback on how the experiment with upper case names goes in Ubuntu.

We aren't making extensive use of this functionality; but at the same time,
I don't see any indication of bug reports resulting from this change.

Is there further feedback you'd look for here before reconsidering the
patch?

Attached is the current version of the patch against 3.113.

Bug#645579: apt-get upgrade keeps upgradable package

Hi David,

I have CC'd the m17n-contrib maintainer on this message too.

Thanks! I tried to include the information that I would want when
receiving such a report.

Thanks for taking the time to look into the problem. As long as the
reasoning behind it makes sense then that is fine. It didn't make
sense to me and looked like a deeper problem. (It still looks like it
to me. But I hope to get past that point.)

I am sorry but I am still not quite understanding this point. And I
would like to understand it. Please bear with me for a moment longer.

I have libm17n-0 1.6.2-3 installed. It should satisfy both the old
and the new Recommends since both are ">=" relationships. Right? And
it seems to do so okay. I can install either version of m17n-contrib
without any dependency breakage.

Also this seems to be a very common pattern for a lot of packages and
if it is a problem then it should be causing the problem very often.
They upgrade their version number and the version number of packages
they Depend and Recommend. If that is a problem for apt then I would
have expected to have seen it a lot. But instead this is the only
time I can ever remember having run into this behavior out of all of
the years.

> as 'upgrade' should be really conservative with a motto like: "Just
> get bugfixes, not new issues".

I am in complete agreement. I am a big advocate of the Stable
release. But I am running Sid in order to see and diagnose problems
earlier than the Stable release cycle. :-)

In this case isn't 'upgrade' maintained? The list of names of the
packages installed would be exactly the same both before and after.
Only the version number of exactly one package is increased. Isn't
that a safe upgrade?

I see that you are telling me that it is not that part but the
recommends version part that is the issue. But again there isn't a
change in name but only a change in version and that should be okay
for a safe upgrade shouldn't it?

> (This carefulness regarding policy-breakage was introduced in 0.8.15.3)

All good.

But libm17n-0 is installed in both cases. If the new package added a
recommends then I could see what you are saying. But it only upgrades
the version of the recommends. The recommends exists in both the old
and new packages.

I am sure you are not saying that any package with a recommends is not
a candidate for a safe upgrade. But that is what I am reading and so
I am confused.

> (There is also no concept of less or more broken, policy breakage handling

Okay with that. I am still back at the beginning try to understand
why it is broken. :-)

> That we have no debug message telling us something like this is a bumper

I was trying to turn on verbose debug output but there wasn't a straw
to grasp at. :-) I was just asking if there was a debug flag that
could be used to debug it further. More debug info is good.

> Thanks also for your report again and sorry for closing it as

I can't tell you how many times I have closed a new bug report as not
a bug and so I know exactly how you feel. Sometimes I just tag them
as moreinfo and then come back later and close them after more
interaction. But that is a lot more work.

My only comment is that "the QPID daemon administrator" should be
"Qpid" to match how it's used elsewhere.

(I'm assuming the answer to "why Qpid?" is "because Qpid™!")

That would be fine except that standardising it across the suite would
leave us saying things like
Description: cross-platform enterprise messaging system - common development
files
which is a bit too long. Could we perhaps drop "cross-platform" from
the synopsis version? The alternative (not implemented below) is to
go back to "Apache Qpid" as the suite-name:
Description: Apache Qpid - common development files

Trying to fill in the blanks:

As above.

Fair enough, assuming that QMF1 is the "default" QMF. I'd like to
expand it in the long descriptions, though (throughout):

This package provides the Qpid Management Framework libraries.

> Package: libqpidmessaging2
[...]
> +Description: cross-platform enterprise messaging system - AMQP libraries

Are these the only things that can claim to be AQMP libraries? I've
gone for
Description: enterprise messaging system - AMQP messaging libraries
and likewise, just squeezing under the 80-column limit:

> Package: libqpidmessaging2-dev
Description: enterprise messaging system - AMQP messaging development files

> Package: libsslcommon2

Surely (here and equivalently in the -dev package):
This package provides the common SSL files.
(whatever that means exactly)...

Editing glitch.

Best guess:
Description: enterprise messaging system - RDMA libraries

This package provides the Remote Direct Memory Access libraries.
(and equivalently in the -dev package)

> Package: libqpidtypes1
Description: enterprise messaging system - API libraries

These ones just need to drop the word "AMQP" a few times.

Why do Python modules get called modules while Ruby and Perl ones get
called "bindings" and/or "support"? Oh well, maybe there are reasons,
so I'll leave them incompletely standardised.

With the low volume of patches to Jim Tcl, I don't see any need
to change from the current approach of accepting patches on the mailing list.
This is a low barrier to entry for new contributors.

It is also possible to submit pull requests on github.

We can always move to something more sophisticated in the future if necessary.

Cheers,
Steve

Bug#645951: adduser: Portuguese translation gone missing?

2011-10-19 Thread Steve Langasek
Package: adduser
Version: 3.113
Severity: minor

Hi folks,

When merging the latest Debian release of adduser into Ubuntu, I found that
the Portuguese translation, po/pt.po, seems to have disappeared. Since
there's no mention of it in the changelog, I suspect this was accidental.
Maybe you want to readd the file from 3.112+nmu2?

Cheers,

Surely you mean 31 December.

Yes, I plan to migrate the mailing list and website, probably to sourceforge.
Probably some time next month.

I'm sorry to inform you that's not the case. This bug report is a Request
For Package; it's a place to coordinate requests for the work and any
possible future people who might step forward to do the work.

To my knowledge there's no work being done on this for Debian yet, and I'm
not suitable to package a complex PHP application :-)

Great! I'm glad that it's further along than I'd thought.

If you decide to resume this work and contribute the package to Debian,
please act early to update this bug report accordingly:

If you are going to package this, retitle the bug report to replace
"RFP" with "ITP", in order for other people to know the program is
already being packaged, and set yourself as the owner of the bug. Then
package the software, upload it and close this bug once the package has
been installed.

requestsync can also use Launchpad's API, with the --lp flag (and in
general, this will give a far better experience).

This will use https (port 443), which is almost universally unblocked.

I think the right answer is to make --lp the default. I don't see any
particularly good reason for them to listen on the submission port.
requestsync is probably the only tool that mails launchpad directly.

1. Open LO
2. Create new document (in any app)
3. Save it under name "some.file.with.dots"
4. Select File -> Save as
5. Proposed name is "some.file.odX" instead of "some.file.with.dots.odX" (or
some.file.with.odX, depending if filename had ODF extension or not).

This is reproducable with default settings for LO.

I could not reproduce it with LO 3.4.3 for Windows (from LO site).

Best regards
Mirosław Zalewski

I'm pretty sure we have people using DTLS in squeeze.

I currently don't have time to deal with this.

2011-10-19 Thread Sebastian Reichel
Package: openbox
Version: 3.5.0-1.0

Hi,

Please build the package with imlib2 support by adding libimlib2-dev
to the Build-Depends line in debian/control. Openbox built against
imlib2 supports icons in the menu as described on

2011-10-19 Thread Lech Karol Pawłaszek
Package: openxenmanager
Version: 0.r80+dfsg-1

Hello. I've just read on planet Debian that openxenmanager is in the
archive. Yay! I installed it and tried to start:

$ openxenmanager

So there are missing depends... I installed python-gtk-vnc package and

(even --help doesn't work and there is no man page for openxenmanager
executable)

Kind regards,

Bug#645736: Please hide xterm and uxterm icons from the GNOME menu

For these cases there is still /etc/gnome/menus.blacklist

Back to my point: why are you singling out xterm?

Because it suddenly began to show an icon in the menus and did not before.
But I am not singling out xterm, it is just that it caught my attention right
now. I have already filed similar bug reports in the past, e.g. #579160 or
#579154.

that's an untruthful comment, of course.

Hehe, let's say it's biased. ;)

This might help (I'd seen essentially the same statement more than once,
though I don't recall which people) - numbers instead of subjective
comments:
