 /usr/bin/python /usr/share/apport/apport-gtk -f -pid 5606 11428

This is an invalid way to call apport-gtk. I guess lp-i screwed up and
appended more than one pid for some reason.

[Bug 13333] Re: Evolution hangs when I start it

2007-05-06 Thread DannyStaple
I am now seeing something very similar, possibly related. I have evolution set
up with a pop mailbox, and it currently (at a result of catching up/backing up
to local) has a very large inbox - 64Mb. It hung and became unresponsive at
100% a few days ago, and now does so every time I start it. I even left it for
a few hours, but it was still in the same state, CPU Maxed out, evolution
unresponsive. I have a backtrace and debug, which I will attach in a comment
below.
This is in Feisty, using Evolution 2.10.1-0ubuntu2.
Killing evolution-alarm-notify does not alleviate the problem. I will also
attach the CLI output to my comment below.
I will try the tip with using thunderbird to get to this mail for now, but
would really like to see this sorted, or if a key file in evolution can be
changed to fix it.

[Bug 79351] Re: clicking on a file makes it disappear (like it was deleted)

2007-05-06 Thread ushio
I think this bug is linked to the Nautilus bug I have read on the
gnome.org:

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=336955

First, I would like to describe the way to reproduce (hopefully easy for you
guys)
1. Download one of .ogg files from this forum. Duplicate it to 30+ files. Any
file name will do.
2. Switch to list view.
3. Order file by type.
4. Close and reopen the folder.
5. Click at the first file. Voila!
6. Repeat step 5 as much as you want.

The result is due to the fact that Nautilus always reorder the item when
something changed. The selected file does not disappear, it just goes to
stay somewhere else. it I think this must be fixed but I don't know
where to start. I'll file the bug about this reordering feature
someday as it cause more problems than usability.

[Bug 112800] Automatic item reordering feature should be removed

2007-05-06 Thread ushio
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

First of all, sorry for my English but I really would like to suggest.

Currently, Nautilus file browser will reorder the items whenever the
contents of the folder changes. However, I would like to suggest that
this feature should be left off, as it causes too much usability
problems. The reason is that the item position should not be
unnecessarily changed because the user is likely to working on the
contents of the folder. Reordering will be confusing in many cases.

For example, if I copy 5 files into name-ordered view, all copied files
will be spread into its position and some might not be visible. I'm then
not so sure that I have copied 5 files already or not.

The reordering also causing this bugs
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=336955
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/79351

I appreciate hard work of Gnome developer, but I think this feature is
not necessary and should be removed. I would like to suggest that
reordering should occur only when

1. Opening folder
2. Refreshing folder
3. Deleting items

[Bug 75932] xmessage crashes on login

2007-05-06 Thread Boudewijn
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Binary package hint: xmessage

I installed edubuntu 6.06 LTS / alternate (with LVM)
I never came to use the edubuntu side, since X did not come up, and I wanted to
use kdm instead of gdm, so it became an Kubuntu installation.

When time came that 6.10 was available, I upgraded my repositories and
dist-upgraded.

Again X went black, but after repairing the default desktop is the
Edubuntu flavour of Gnome. I still usually log on to KDE or
Enlightenment, but time and again I come to use Gnome.

Each of those times, all the applets crash on logging in. It turns out
that xmessage also crashes.

2007-05-06 Thread jdriessen
Hi. I wanted to share files with my brother's computer (I am running
ubuntu 7.04) but I couldn't get it to work.

I wish there was a setup assistant (or something) when you want to share a
file/folder so that it just works.
It took me a whole lot of time scouring the forums to find out that I needed to
set up a samba password/login in terminal.
Why can't samba use the same login/password as when I log into my computer?
...I had to set it up in terminal.

[Bug 94048] Re: [feisty] Slow gnome application startup due to /etc/hosts misconfiguration

2007-05-06 Thread Gareth Fitzworthington
The slow login/desktop bug appears to have been around for a while. The
bug is reported in edgy feisty and they are mostly unconfirmed and
mostly of undecided importance. Although I'm very happy with feisty, I
am finding this bug a bit bothersome so I thought I'd do some research
through the bug archives.

I think this bug has been reported numerous times. The bug list that
follows, I think are reports of effectively the same bug.

Bug #78263 - claims workaround (feisty)
Bug #78493 (edgy)

Bug #110616 (feisty?)
Bug #110775 (feisty)
Bug #110187 - reports slow desktop as a side effect of other network config
issues. (feisty)
---
Bug #95264 - Maybe related (not clear) (feisty)
Bug #93447 - Maybe related (not clear) (edgy)
---
It seems most discussions are blaming this bug on one or more of:
Network-manager
avahi
hosts file
resolve file
static IP addresses
no network connection.

I can't vouch for the claimed workarounds - but I intend on
investigating them further.

The person who solves this one will likely 'kill a number of bugs with
one stone'.

I hope I'm not being too forward by presenting such a list but I am
rather keen to see this bug solved. I hope this list helps to unify
further discussion prompts some further thought on the matter.

[Bug 36370] wrong Tab-keymap in /usr/share/xmodmap/xmodmap.*

2007-05-06 Thread Vianney le Clément
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

The default keymaps in /usr/share/xmodmap/ for use with xmodmap, have
the following definition for the tab-key :

 keycode 23 = Tab Tab

This means shift-tab works exactly the same as tab, and thus you can't
cycle backwards through the controls of a window. From what I've seen on
the internet, I think, this should be :

 keycode 23 = Tab ISO_Left_Tab

This problem only occurs when using xmodmap. If you're using gnome's
keyboard preferences, it works like a charm. But if you're using dapper
with xgl and compiz, you need to use xmodmap for any non-us keyboard and
you lose shift-tab functionality.

A temporary workaround for this, is to issue these 2 commands when using
xmodmap :

 xmodmap /usr/share/xmodmap/xmodmap.language
 xmodmap -e keycode 23 = Tab ISO_Left_Tab

I've seen this bug in breezy and dapper. Don't know about warty and

[Bug 112840] GNOME freezes after log-in for 70/80 seconds then defreezes

2007-05-06 Thread Darkmaster
Public bug reported:

I upgraded from Edgy to Feisty and the process was OK.
Now GDM starts, I log-in, appears the light orange backgound of ubuntu and the
process freezes, the mouse can be moved, and in the upper left corner of the
screen a white rectangle is visibile. The system stays like this for 70/80
seconds. Then I can hear the session start music and the white rectangle
becomes a window with the following message:

There has been an error starting the gnome settings daemon.

Some aspects, such as themes, sound or backgroung settings may not work
correctly.

The last error message has been:

Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application
did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply,
the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

GNOME will try to start the setting daemon again at the next login.

Or that's a translation by me, since I use the Italian version. What I
tryed to solve this:

1) disable every starting application, such as network manager, battery
monitor, evolution, ecc.
2) deleting every setting of gnome and letting it create the new setting files.
3) creating a new user andtrying loggin in with that new user

None of this worked, as you can read in my ubuntu forum thread about
this damned problem:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=2602229#post2602229

There you'll find some more informations about my problem. How can I
solve this, please?

[Bug 112842] Open With Other Application fast search of listed apps malfunctions

2007-05-06 Thread Ari
Public bug reported:

Open a nautilus file browser window.

Right click on a file; let's say you right click on dmesg.log in your
home directory.

Choose Open with Other Application (by the way, I think the correct
spelling would be Open with Another Application)

Now you get a list of available applications. Let's say you want to
quickly locate the text editor. So, as I did in Dapper and Edgy, I start
a fast search typing text (for example). I would expect that the Text
Editor entry would be highlighted. Instead, I get Movie Player. In
fact, whatever I try to fast search, I always get the wrong application
highlighted.

Happens 100% of the time. Feisty clean install. This is a bit annoying.

Thanks!

[Bug 13333] Re: Evolution hangs when I start it

2007-05-06 Thread DannyStaple
More information:
It is something that has happened to the profile. If I move away the .evolution
directory, and start it (thus forcing it to create a new profile) I do not see
a hang. Now I do have important information I want to retain in the old profile
so if anyone has ideas about migrating the emails, filters, tasks and calendar
from the old profile to a new one I would really, really like to know about
them.

[Bug 10435] Re: Nautilus '~/Templates' folder does not exist

2007-05-06 Thread Vincenzo Ciancia
Sebastien, you said that there are no default templates on purpose, may
I ask why? Wouldn't it be better if major applications like openoffice
and gimp created default templates in a shared directory when installed?
Or is it the gnome idea that one should instead open, say, the gimp and
create a new document?

[Bug 86893] Re: [Feisty] Starting HPLIP Toolbox in DVD edition or after update through internet: No python-qt3, but plenty of space on DVD or internet repository

2007-05-06 Thread Pascal De Vuyst
@ThomasHynk
This is a dist-upgrade issue if you upgraded from Edgy to Feisty, on a clean
Feisty install this will not happen.

Please remove hplip.desktop and/or hp-toolbox.desktop from
~/.local/share/applications/
HPLIP Toolbox is hidden from the menus by default, you need to show it by
clicking System Preferences Main Menu then select System Preferences
HPLIP Toolbox.

Since hplip.desktop has NoDisplay=true we will always have to show it in the
menus through System Preferences Main Menu which creates a copy of the
desktop file in ~/.local/share/applications/ with NoDisplay=false.
So this is a bug in hplip, on a dist-upgrade hplip.desktop and
hp-toolbox.desktop under ~/.local/share/applications/ should be removed for all
users.
Reopening hplip task.

[Bug 112873] chinese characters in mp3 filename do not appear properly in library even after enabling Chinese in language support

2007-05-06 Thread Gilbert
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

- adding my mp3 files that have Chinese characters as filename do not show
properly in rhythmbox, but they show correctly in file browser.
- adding Chinese language support did not help
- removed everything from library, then opened rhythmbox again, the Chinese
characters mp3 filenames are still not displayed properly in the library
- using rhythmbox 0.10.0 and ubuntu-desktop 7.04

[Bug 105609] Re: bug in metacity, same after newinstall

2007-05-06 Thread Carsten Lange
Just for the records: After a complete new install of feisty, I got a
similar behaviour. No more window frames, decorations of anything. No
possibility to change any window settings because of a message
concerning a window manager unknown. Seems that Metacity died. I will
search for its corpse.

/c.

[Bug 103896] Re: Poor print formatting in Evolution

2007-05-06 Thread Stanley Sokolow
I concur with Greg about Evolution's poor page layout problem. When I
print an email message, the printing starts at top edge of paper and
continues to bottom edge. There are no top and bottom margins. This is
not merely a problem of setting the margins -- Evolution's page setup
dialog doesn't provide any way to set margins at all. To see this, in
the mail view, select an email message to view, then click Print and
then the Page Setup tab. There are no margin setting parameters on the
setup dialog. Moreover, the scale factor doesn't make any difference
to the printout, still going from top edge to bottom edge of sheet even
when scaling is set way down, such as to 60%. It appears that the
Evolution developers just forgot to provide this very basic function --
getting an acceptable printout of a message. I am using Mozilla's
Thunderbird email program instead of the integrated mailer in Evolution
because Thunderbird does allow one to set top and bottom margins and
even to put useful headers and footers on the pages. The only thing I
can say about this oversight by the Evolution team is, what were they
thinking when they overlooked providing margins? Is there a chance
that the margins Evolution uses are actually found in some other printer
definition file elsewhere in Linux?

[Bug 103896] Re: Poor print formatting in Evolution

2007-05-06 Thread Stanley Sokolow
One more idea: Since Evolution has is origin in Novell, I wonder
whether Evolution on OpenSUSE does any better with print formatting.
Anyone have OpenSUSE available to check it out? Maybe that will give a
clue about where the margin settings are actually kept.

[Bug 112913] Evince does not handle pdf links properly

2007-05-06 Thread Bartek Celary
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

Im using evince-0.8.1-0ubuntu1 in Feisty.

I have created a pdf file from pdflatex (also tried without ps2pdf) and
whenever I click on a link to some other part of the document I can see
following errors from evince: (attached).

When I tried kpdf -- all works OK, but the quality is much worse So
my only choice is to use Acrobat... which(!) I haven't installed as I
decided to stick with open soft.

If you require further information, just let me know.
Thanks,

[Bug 71620] Re: System Quit does not respond to assigned keyboard shortcut/hotkey

2007-05-06 Thread Arno
Same problem here. I've by now pulled all my hear out about finding a
solution myself. I also upgraded to feisty, in the hope that it would
(finally) fix this annoying problem, but it didn't. I even switched to
Kubuntu as I really miss this keyboard shortcut (although I'm not sure
whether I like KDE over Gnome).

I can also confirm that the problem occurs on both the x86 AMD64
version (as expected).
