[Bug 1590641] [NEW] systemd-modules-load fails with monolithic kernel

2016-06-08 Thread Alex King
Public bug reported:

Out of the box on 16.04, when run with a monolithic kernel (i.e. non-
modular), /lib/systemd/systemd-modules-load bombs out. This happens
even though there are only comments in the systemd-modules-load
configuration, i.e. there is nothing for it to do.

This causes systemd to regard the system state as degraded, because the
systemd-modules-load.service unit failed.

I suspect I could probably disable that unit, but then I would not be
able to boot back to a modular kernel and have initial module loading
work.

IMO, there should be a configuration option for systemd-modules-load to
allow a success return code if the kernel does not support loading
modules. Or if that is not seen as a good fix, it should at least
succeed if it is not asked to load anything (i.e. empty config)

# lsb_release -rd

[Bug 1590640] [NEW] .deb installation fails silently

2016-06-08 Thread Dan Dascalescu
Public bug reported:

1. Download the LibreOffice 5.2.0 x64 .deb package -
https://www.libreoffice.org/download/libreoffice-fresh/?type=deb-x86_64&version=5.2.0&lang=en-US
2. Unpack
3. Open the DEBS directory in Files
4. Right click on libreofficedev5.2-calc_5.2.0.0.beta1-1_amd64.deb and choose
"Open With Software Install"

The progress bar starts and after a few seconds, resets, as if the
install was never attempted. No errors are presented to the user.

This installation method is recommended by LibreOffice at
https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Documentation/Install/Linux#Graphic_Installation_.28Preferred_Way.29,
but I've found other .debs that fail as well.

Is it a dependencies problem, as explained at
https://ask.libreoffice.org/en/question/71044/lo-52-beta-wont-install-
on-linux-x64/? In that case, the should be SOME indication to as user as
to what's going on, and ideally the dependencies should be installed
automatically or after prompting the user.

[Bug 986189] Re: Missing "Always Use" checkbox in "Open With" Dialog

2016-06-08 Thread Lonnie Lee Best
Generally I favor "fewer steps" to "more steps".

Your conclusion that this cannot be undone is not correct. It can always be
undone in the same step-intensive way you currently have to do it in the first
place.

5 steps:
Right-click > Properties > Open With > Set Default Application > "Close"
http://neartalk.com/ss/2016-06-07_003_742x636.png

Currently you have do all these non-intuitive steps anytime you want to change
the default application, when usually it would be nicer to set this in one step
as proposed, the first time you open the file type, and then only do the longer
steps in the event that you "change you mind".

I favor "fewer steps" to "more steps". Especially when it is more intuitive (as
what I've proposed is). Concept: "Put settings closer where they're
used".

[Bug 1590535] [NEW] Brightness hotkeys don't work correctly when booting Ubuntu after Windows 10 is restarted

2016-06-08 Thread disco
Public bug reported:

When Ubuntu is booted first, brightness control hotkeys (Fn+F5/F6) work
properly:

keycode 232 = (keysym 0x1008ff03, XF86MonBrightnessDown), state = 0x0
keycode 233 = (keysym 0x1008ff02, XF86MonBrightnessUp), state = 0x0

However, brightness control hotkeys behave differently (both are acting as mute
button) if Windows 10 was booted first, restarted and Ubuntu is booted next:

keycode 198 = (keysym 0x1008ffb2, XF86AudioMicMute), state = 0x0

Event: time 1465412195.393592, -- SYN_REPORT

What is expected is that brightness hotkeys behave as brightness hotkeys in
both cases.

[Bug 1590508] [NEW] SRU more minor fixes to GNOME Software

2016-06-08 Thread William Hua
Public bug reported:

[Impact]

Improve the usability of GNOME Software by fixing the following bugs:

* Snaps not displaying human-readable names (LP: #169)
* Some KDE4 applications cannot be launched (e.g. kolourpaint)
* Added error checking for the case where the ratings and reviews server isn't
accessible
* Fix a couple of CSS errors
* Fix conversion from star ratings (1-5) to G-S rating (0-100)
* Fix wilson score calulation
* Make the app folder dialog work again (LP: #1590115)

[Test Case]

* Search for "ubuntu-calculator" from the overview shell. The name should be
"Ubuntu Calculator application for the Unity 7 desktop", not
"ubuntu-calculator-app"
* Install, then attempt to launch kolourpaint from the details shell
* Disconnect from the network, then attempt to submit a review

[Regression Potential]

Regression potential should be low as the fixes for these bugs are
fairly isolated.

[Bug 1292113] Re: CTRL+ALT+T - shortcut to open Terminal is does not work

2016-06-08 Thread Ken Wagner
Experienced this problem after accidental Super + P combo.

Now, no more volume Up or Down and Ctrl + Alt + T is recast as duplicate
tab in FireFox or if FireFox is not running nothing happens.

Bizarre and very, very frustrating.

How to fix?

Thanks Ken Wagner

people decide weather to keep, remove, or find a work-around to it.

[Bug 1564697] Re: gimp-2.8 crashed with SIGSEGV in keymap_state_changed()

2016-06-08 Thread Dx
This is equivalent to https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=648419

The backtrace of that bug shows remove_capslock_feedback() instead of
keymap_state_changed() because remove_capslock_feedback() is tail-called
from keymap_state_changed(). The crash is essentially the same (priv
being null), this one dies earlier because in gimp the gtkentry is
invisible.

I don't know how to reproduce this but it happened three times today,
every time while the gimp window wasn't focused and i was typing stuff
in the terminal.

[Bug 1387131] Re: Cannot change evince key bindings

2016-06-08 Thread MF
This bug is still active in ubuntu 16.04.

The same holds for GM's comment on Gnome documentation.

I really wish all this can be fixed and customizing shortcuts in evince will
be as simple as any other viewer (eg, okular).

[Bug 1579278] Re: Consider changing default CPU frequency scaling governor back to "performance" (Ubuntu Server)

2016-06-08 Thread Martin Pitt
In yakkety I'll add an ondemand.service to systemd, as
/etc/init.d/ondemand fell out of the standard installation (as
"initscripts" is now -- thankfully -- gone). I'll keep the xenial task
in case someone is interested in SRUing this.

[Bug 1584124] Re: revisit /etc/init.d/ondemand

2016-06-08 Thread Martin Pitt
Closing the kernel task, as it's now obvious that we want to keep the
"performance" default there, and only do the "ondemand" thing for older
processors.

[Bug 1588197] Re: Can't type anything in search box

2016-06-08 Thread Sebastien Bacher
the issue was due to that SRU candidate
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/im-config/0.29-1ubuntu12.1

the update was considered (rightly it seems) buggy and deleted since, if
you have the issue you should reinstall the xenial version
