[Finale] Hey, JARI!
I just figured it all out! The info from MM is CRAP! Learn! Henry Howey Sent from my iWhatever ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale
[Finale] A band-aid
I doubt many of you are on your best game at 5 PM Fridays;-) I checked today and can use 2012 by rolling back the sound card driver. This is not a real solution as normal maintenance should not be a disastrous occurrence. Henry Howey Sent from my iWhatever ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale
[Finale] More for Jari
As one of the people who regularly pushes FINALE, to its very limits - yes. There are new people at MM, and my impression is that they are geared for less adventurous users. I tend to under-explain here. The ASIO-bug is already identified by MM. The sheer virulence of the present one is a major weakness in that no recovery is presently available. Its weakness lies in the "improvements" in 2012. Already too many people here have noticed odd and maddening peculiarities as they venture forward. When a customer makes a normal adjustment associated with computer maintenance, one has a reasonable expectation of continuity. The recent expansions by MM are not being served well. It seems that like Avid, the Garritan team has been abandoned to wander in the wilderness. Jari, I am nonplussed by your defense of poor service by a firm we have all supported with enthusiasm and money for too many years. We are a small community. We have an important service to perform to other users as well as the company that makes our work possible. So long as MM has a policy of "forward" they must deal with a real and complex world. This is why I founded this list. Our corporate world must be challenged by independent voices. The ASIO bug was entered for only M-Audio external devices. The immediate solution was to disconnect the device. I have an internal audio card so disconnection is not an option. I will proceed this holiday to do a clean that is unknown to most PC users with regedit after the usual PC uninstall. If I cannot recover in this way, the ball is clearly solely in MM's court as they have violated proper Windows procedures in 2012. There may be a further possibility. The arrival of my new box was delayed by the proper requirement that it be "imaged" by our techs. I may have to have them return it to their specs and start all over. This is not a pleasant process, but my work is important to me. You see, I really know what I'm doing. I used to beta-test FINALE but stopped when I was doing months of research in Italy. I guess I should re-up. It's a distraction, but we need to do our best for all of us. [Finale] An answer for Jari
Hi! This is a known bug to MM. I really do know what I'm doing MAC or PC. This is a really severe bug as I've never before experienced. The new 6K box my kind school has provided to me was initially not set up with all of the latest drivers. I had been gradually doing this when I noticed that the AUDIO SETUP was unstable. Well, I found out that the CREATIVE soundcard and its associated apps needed updating. As soon as I did this 2012 would freeze the machine to the point that no usual recovery was possible at all. I did an un/re-install to no effect. It was after 5 on a Friday when I decided the whole process with regedit was not what I wanted to do. I've sent in a report as the report on MM referred to M-Audio external ASIO devices. At one time a deletion of a PREF file would solve the problem. And yes, IT IS THEIR PROBLEM;-) Henry Howey Sent from my iWhatever ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale

[Finale] Bass Trombone (Brass Band)
Ray and I are both bass trombone players;-) The reason was that (as Ray noted) the traditional British Bass band bass trombone was an instrument pitched in G. ALL of the instruments in BB are transposing. The only reason (I believe) was the difficulty of people who lived in B-flat and E-flat to do a G transposing treble clef. I say this as one who (for three years) made part of his living playing the bass herald trumpet made by Boosey and Hawkes for the coronation of the present queen in 195X. It was pitched in G; however, I only read a G treble part supplied by my arranger colleagues from the United States Army Band. -- Henry Howey, D.M.A. Professor of Music Sam Houston State University Box 2208 Huntsville, TX 77341 (936) 294-1364 http://www.shsu.edu/~music/faculty/howey.html Owner of FINALE Discussion List ___ Finale mailing list Finale@shsu.edu http://lists.shsu.edu/mailman/listinfo/finale
