Subject: [Finale] Straight line gliss to notes with accidentals

Hey all,

When using the straight line gliss, I usually like to have the line
attach directly to the noteheads. But what if there's an intervening
accidental that gets in the way? What's your preferred solution in
this case? End the line before the accidental (although sometimes
spacing is very tight and this would cause the gliss line to almost
disappear)? Hide the "real" accidental and put it in as an
articulation above the note? Or just live with the collision?

Cheers,

- Darcy

Hi, Everyone...

Just wondering if anyone here knows of a good jazz piano instructional book you
could recommend?  I do already play piano, but am most interested in learning
more about jazz techniques - especially jazz chords, etc.  Would appreciate any
suggestions!

Also - does anyone by chance know if there's any way possible to get pen
marking off of piano keys?!  A friend's child was over here and marked up my
piano :(

Thanks!

Re: [Finale] Eyeglasses?

2006-09-13 Thread tim-cates
I see your point - I always taught students that any tempo alteration
basically means the same to them - look up. I do use the eyeglasses
from time to time in Finale if I'm doing a leadsheet and need to do
something unusual to keep the number of pages at a minimum for my
guitar players or woodwinds - eg. a simple verse, chorus, bridge tune
that has an extension leading into the chorus that only happens the
2nd time through - I'll include a text instruction to skip the
measures (or whatever the specific problem is) when appropriate and
the eyeglasses near the text to tip them off that there is something
non-standard happening - then, of course, verbally tell them and walk
them through in rehearsal...

Like any non-standard notation, feel free to use it, but don't

There's usually a lot of discussion when these things are

(along with the usual bells and whistles), including what looks
like a real improvement in control of mass copying behavior, much
more flexibility and efficiency in dealing with libraries, and
some help with graphic export (something I rarely use, but would
if it were easier. There's also integration with Garritan (nice
for me, since I now seem to be a little part of that, and will
certainly find use for the jazz sound samples), and improved
Kontact integration (or so the PR seems to indicate).

They mention July 2005. I just got the email notice now. But when I
tried to pre-order, Firefox kept telling me that the document
contained no data. Safari works fine, though.

One thing, I noticed that Garritan Jazz and Big Band Collection is
announced as well, on the check out page, at US$ 199.00. From the
Garritan website it costs $259. I was hoping to get a reduction
since I already own the Personal Orchestra, but it looks like
Finale is the key to getting a discount.

However, in most pop music charts that I've seen (especially the
Contemporary Christian genre) - G2 would be played as G-A-B-D (i.e.
including the 3rd) - the sound you're talking about is most often seen
as G2(no 3rd) in this arenaFWIW.

Hmm. I see -- interesting.
So long as players know there's a fifth in "G2," I can see the
usefulness of the symbol when it comes to notating alt bass chords
concisely.

the first thing that pops into my mind is a book called "Spiritual

a book called "Heart of the Artist" by Rory Noland that covers some of
this from a Christian perspective (though this one is more of a

my approach would be to write it as Bb13(#11) - or make up a score
