[Audyssey] Shadow Line

2012-10-19 Thread Shadow Dragon
For those that play Shadow Line, if any, has anyone figured out how to unlock
the extra dungeon south of the temple? I have beaten the game 3 times, once on
normal, once on hard and once on impossible, and I'm on my fourth normal
playthrough. I've gotten every bonus item I can find on the map including
several obscure ones, and I've talked to every person I can find in the game in
all the villages. I think it gives you a hint when you try to enter the cave,
but the translation is terrible. It says something about two people being a
starting point, but as I said I've talked to everyone I can find. Any help
would be appreciated, this is the last thing I need to complete before I've
done all the content in the game. Then I plan to do one final playthrough on
the newly added easy mode to see if anything unlocks and put the game down for
a while.

I was just sitting around after listening to a couple of the Halloween movies.

I found out about a Halloween game that was on the Atari 2600 that was
base on the first movie, where you play as the babysitter, you had to
go around the house finding the children before Michael Myers got them
or got you.
Another thing you had to do is once you found one of the children you
take them to the safe room.

You could also pick up a knife to fight off Michael Myers.
If someone knows of a game like that for the blind please tell me what
it is call and where to go get it.

Hi.

Well the page and description were updated in may, and I believe I fixed the
links then to the developer of winfrotz' own page, but that I don't think
is the problem as far as jaws goes.

I'm not sure if there are jaws scripts for winfrotz, but there is certainly
a sapi option in the actual winfrtoz program itself (don't confuse this with
winfrotz tts, that is a separate program that was made before! the winfrtoz
sapi support was added and is no longer maintained, so that it won't work on
post xp windows), and I've heard many jaws users say good things about
filfre, so you don't have to go down the dos route at all.

Hi Dark.

OK, well thank you very much for your assistance, to be honest I'm
reluctant to go down the DOS route for a number of reasons, ease of use
being one of them especially for new users. I'm going to try and locate
some JFW scripts, I'm using Winfrotz 1.61 at the moment which I obtained
directly from the IF archive and to which your index page in the DB
points. Has that page been updated recently?

Hi ibrahim.

I wouldn't recommend using dos frotz myself, because running it will be a
pain for most people and even if not, there are more conventional and
full

featured windows interpreters as you said yourself.

I know some people prefer dos frotz which is fine, but it wouldn't
personally be my choice.

As I said, i'd either recommend getting jaws and winfrotz to cooperate,
using the sapi output in winfrotz, or trying the filfre interpreter
instead.

Hi Dark.

Thank you very much for your assistance, I had considered using the old
console mode version of Frotz which was specifically built for Windows 95
console mode, however it is as old as the hills and doesn't support
things like timed input, music etc. etc. I'm looking for a fully
featured interpreter as I'm not only planning to play these games myself
but also introduce these Infocom games to friends who until now have
never heard of them. I have to consider ease of setting up and use, if
people have to keep coming back to me then either they or I will lose
interest. When we talk about the latest DOS frotz interpreter, do we
mean the DJGPP version?

I have had success with the Filfre interpreter, available from the

Sherlock doesn't seem to work with Filfre. I've also been able to run the
latest version of Frotz for Dos in the command prompt under Windows XP.
Maybe it work sunder Windows 7 too.

I know there are Windows versions of Nfrotz and Fizmo, compiled under
the Cygwin framework. Those can be a little tricky to set up though, at
least if you don't have som e Linux/Unix experience.

the fact the keynote gold needed a 386 was the issue I can probably

In fact I know I can get one for nothing.
However I don't have synth hardware.
My plan is to eventually buy one of the usb synths but I think my

ibriham Its been a major project since my old toshiba t1850 died.
Ofcause all the pulsedata readers needed a 386 else they didn't work.
So I decided that I'd just run with stuff on trademe or ebay or something.
Trouble was at least locally I couldn't find a good box.
I managed to find a loggable unit once but it was heavy and the
keyboard was dammaged.
I then went for another box but still couldn't find it that worked ok.
Then all my synths crapped out the keynote sa needed a battery change
and was useless even on power.
I never found out how to change the cells so I chucked the synth away.
The dectalk functioned for a bit but keynote stuff only supported
keynote synths.
I hadn't used jaws though knew I could use the free reader or hal
free reader for dos.
In the end I just decided enough was enough.
The only way I think I'd ever go back to dos was if I either
1. got someone to give up a keynote gold external synth and a 386 system
or a keynote internal and a steady supply of parts, I would need a
keynote gold.
or 2. that I found room for a linux box just to play old dos games.
I will bee aquiring a single core crappy old mangled dog of a box my
grandpa uses which is a begger to use and setup but it will do for
the old windows games especially if I go 64 with the laptop.
Dos though unless someone has hardware to give or an idea how I could
do it as software and in such a way as I could run the hints and
other things in windows and also to emulate the pc speakers setups
and stuff by making stuff run at the right speed while not effecting
anything else I may seriously concider it.
Right now though dos is just to hard to obtain.
I guess I could have pushed for a new gold running box back in 1995
and probably should have.
Ofcause thats ages ago and I'd never have fitted things back then.
Back then I still relyed on now mostly dammaged floppies I still have
those.

Most of my stuff was and performance was gotten via vertual memmory
management and optimisations of the system.
I also disabled sertain things and hacked their address space.
Must say though the more I look at it the more I realise its really
not practicle to use dos as a primary os anymore on a system.
Academic as it is, I actually have dos 5.0 wp 5.1 dos6.22 and I think
dos7 that I used in the old days.
I have all my keynote software, and even other stuff I coppied for things.
Those days seem like a long time ago now.
Just thinking of them brings me to tears some times.

Re: [Audyssey] Slightly off topic: smugglers 5.

2012-10-19 Thread dark

Hi lindsy.

the installer for s5 has no license as far as I know, so as long as you
keep the setup file safe you should be fine. Use a cd, use an internet
storage service like sendspace, heck, just use a memory stick if you have
to.

I would however highly recommend getting ane external drive to backup onto,
I use mine a lot and when my first desktop broke back in 2008 it was
invaluable plus it's occasionally handy when i want to transfer a larger
amount of stuff onto my laptop than would fit on my 8 gb memory stick.

I do a backup now of all my games, documents, favourites, audio books and
music every three weeks or so, which is why i am sure I have everything!

For the s5 setup though, it's a relatively small file so whatever you have
should be fine, indeed I've stuck it on my memory stick myself sinse I'm
going to install it onto my laptop.

One thing however, you might actually have already got extended download.
This is an option sold with the game where by you just need to enter your
mail address to get your download file again.

Check just in case. i didn't pay for it myself, sinse I backup, but it is
there for those who need it.

Beware the Grue!¬

Dark.

[Audyssey] Best Installer of 2012

2012-10-19 Thread Gary Whittington
Well, there may be others, but found one works one a 64 bit machine with Jaws
14.
So my winner is

JSX!!!
Search for JSX Exchange on your browsers.

Can my new Baseball sim scripts be to far behind?

Well, my teams did not make the World Series in a 156 league HRFL schedule.
My scripts kepped me playing on a level field with the league with sighted
managers.

Looking for a Christmas release of a Lite version of the scripts to play with a
Hall of Fame roster disk.
While the full version of the scripts for the full game that gets release in
Strat Openning Day in Feb will not work on the HOF lite version of the game.

But the Lite version a great way to get introduced to the baseball computer
game.
And some of the full version scripts will be free in the Lite game to get, to
help those to get started, that can turn into a life long hobby.

Re: [Audyssey] Slightly off topic: smugglers 5.

2012-10-19 Thread Thomas Ward
Hi Lindsay,

If that is your only method for backing up data by all means do so.
These days an external drive is pretty inexpensive and I would
seriously consider investing in one if I were you as its always
possible you will have to reinstall all your software at some point
and anything you have on the PC books, movies, music, games, whatever
will get lost if you don't invest in some sort of backup system.
