Or do you just by default see an error on-screen, not actually think for yourself, and dump a paste to gentoo-user expecting everyone here to do your thinking for you? Alan, you keep repeating yourself. No, I don't get paid for my work, I just run my network; and sometimes I need help. When I post a problem I don't wait for the solution; I keep searching. -- Thelma
Re: [gentoo-user] Re: youtube-dl and mpv.conf file
This thread has piqued my interest in youtube-dl. I'm trying to get best audio and video together in a 1920x1080 video for Youtube URL https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A9tKncAdlHQ My config file is... -f bestvideo[width<=1920]+bestaudio --merge-output-format mp4 --no-mtime --no-playlist -o ~/ytdl/%(title)s.%(ext)s --restrict-filenames If I use "-f bestvideo[width<=1920]" I get a 1920x1080 video...with no sound. [gentoo-user] skylake and x265 movie display
My skylake (i3-6100U) system drops frames when watching x265 movies (in mpv and kodi), with all cores at 100% CPU. I've re-run through https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Intel and tried changing from the intel driver to modsetting, and it appears to use less CPU for x264 at least. Still maxed out for x265 so I cant tell if there's a difference for that. I'm going through the USE flags for kodi, mpv and ffmpeg, which flags are the most important? Is there some way to run a simple movie playback benchmark to assess the impact of changes? To beginners those portage dumps may not be too obvious. Everyone has to start somewhere. We all did this. If nobody asks those questions, there's nothing to find easily in Google (or your favorite search engine). > Seriously, this is getting tiresome. > I hope you are not being paid wages to work these Gentoo machine(s). What I hope is that Thelma is maybe setting up a starters guide, improve wikis or gives helpful answers in the future. Explaining how to read this and give the hint is probably more helpful than harsh comments without any helpful reference to what was asked. The only thing that Thelma could maybe improve is the order of handling this: Maybe first search, then ask. Not the other way 'round. OTOH some other question show that simply the deep knowledge is missing: Those problems are pretty obvious to us experts and explaining what's behind is even more important. ;-) -- Regards, Kai Replies to list-only preferred.

Indeed, I have included mmxext into CPU_FLAGS_X86 and the above error message disappeared. My guess is that CPU_FLAGS_X86 is used only when emerging x32 libraries while -match=native is used for x64 libraries. When both x32 and x64 libraries appear in the same package, portage somehow notices the conflict and reports it.

Haven't synced my tree in a few days, but it seems right according to packages.gentoo.org. Your two examples, sci-libs/vtk and media-libs/opencv, requires the older subslot version. These things tend to sort themselves out with world rebuilding, unless they really require something older. There probably is a tracker bug for ffmpeg 6 unmasking, where you could see if your packages are not supported for ffmpeg 6 yet. Regards, Arve
[gentoo-user] Two (related?) problems: Vivaldi (no sound) and qjackctrl (disables mouse)...?
Hi, I got two problems, which have to do woth "sound" ... more or less. First one: The vivaldi browser does not produce any audio... Since there is a USE flag "chromium" for ffmeg, I installed this: [I] media-video/ffmpeg Available versions: 3.2.6(0/55.57.57)^d (~)3.2.7(0/55.57.57)^d 3.3.4(0/55.57.57)^d 3.3.5(0/55.57.57)^d 3.3.6(0/55.57.57)^d (~)3.4.2(0/55.57.57)^d [m]**(0/56.58.58)^d {X alsa altivec amr amrenc appkit armv5te armv6 armv6t2 armvfp bluray bs2b +bzip2 cdio celt chromaprint chromium cpudetection debug doc ebur128 +encode fdk flite fontconfig frei0r fribidi gcrypt gme gmp gnutls +gpl gsm +hardcoded-tables +iconv iec61883 ieee1394 jack jpeg2k kvazaar ladspa libass libcaca libdrm libilbc librtmp libsoxr libv4l lzma mipsdspr1 mipsdspr2 mipsfpu mmal modplug mp3 neon +network nvenc openal opengl openh264 openssl opus oss pic +postproc pulseaudio rubberband samba schroedinger sdl snappy sofalizer speex ssh static-libs svg test theora +threads truetype twolame v4l vaapi vdpau vorbis vpx wavpack webp x264 x265 xcb xvid zeromq zimg +zlib zvbi ABI_MIPS="n32 n64 o32" ABI_PPC="32 64" ABI_S390="32 64" ABI_X86="32 64 x32" CPU_FLAGS_ARM="neon thumb thumb2 v6 v8 vfp vfpv3" CPU_FLAGS_X86="3dnow 3dnowext aes avx avx2 fma3 fma4 mmx mmxext sse sse2 sse3 sse4_1 sse4_2 ssse3 xop" FFTOOLS="+aviocat +cws2fws +ffescape +ffeval +ffhash +fourcc2pixfmt +graph2dot +ismindex +pktdumper +qt-faststart +sidxindex +trasher"} Installed versions: 3.4.2(0/55.57.57)^d(11:42:45 AM 03/11/2018)(X alsa bzip2 chromium encode fdk gpl hardcoded-tables iconv jack jpeg2k mp3 network postproc sdl threads v4l vdpau vorbis x264 x265 zlib -altivec -amr -amrenc -appkit -bluray -bs2b -cdio -celt -chromaprint -cpudetection -debug -doc -flite -fontconfig -frei0r -fribidi -gcrypt -gme -gmp -gnutls -gsm -iec61883 -ieee1394 -kvazaar -ladspa -libass -libcaca -libdrm -libilbc -librtmp -libsoxr -libv4l -lzma -mipsdspr1 -mipsdspr2 -mipsfpu -mmal -modplug -nvenc -openal -opengl -openh264 -openssl -opus -oss -pic -pulseaudio -rubberband -samba -snappy -speex -ssh -static-libs -svg -test -theora -truetype -twolame -vaapi -vpx -wavpack -webp -xcb -xvid -zeromq -zimg -zvbi ABI_MIPS="-n32 -n64 -o32" ABI_PPC="-32 -64" ABI_S390="-32 -64" ABI_X86="64 -32 -x32" CPU_FLAGS_ARM="-neon -thumb -thumb2 -v6 -v8 -vfp -vfpv3" CPU_FLAGS_X86="3dnow 3dnowext mmx mmxext sse sse2 sse3 -aes -avx -avx2 -fma3 -fma4 -sse4_1 -sse4_2 -ssse3 -xop" FFTOOLS="aviocat cws2fws ffescape ffeval ffhash fourcc2pixfmt graph2dot ismindex pktdumper qt-faststart sidxindex trasher") Homepage:http://ffmpeg.org/ Description: Complete solution to record, convert and stream audio and video. [gentoo-user] screen tearing with mpv but not mplayer
Hello everyone. Mpv has horizontal screen tearing(not very serious though) while playing video while mplayer does not. I have tried some configs which I found on the net but nothing removes this issue. Mpv docs even says that tearing problems are probably not related to software but driver and such, but it seems that this is mpv's problem. any idea about how to solve this issue? Thanks. No idea why this is... Why would these be masked? And why are they listed as installed? Neither of them are showing up as available (ie. even a package.mask being removed would fix this). > I seem to recall something about ffmpeg and opencascade being the > problem. You possibly need to mask versions of ffmpeg that can't be installed (package.mask) I just had to do that. I have been doing it on an individual version basis, as if it gets fixed, a broader mask may not allow the fix to be installed. I'd argue that this behaviour is undesirable, as from what I experienced myself, once masked the update continues successfully, and it knows it can't safely install the troublesome ffmpeg packages... Some way of it acknowledging that *those* updates can't be installed, but continuing any way would be helpful. > When Micheal mentioned me needing to enable a USE flag for > my nvidia card, that got added to the conflict as well. I believe it's (this is more an opinion about *how* this is behaving) it's problematic behaviour in terms of Portage. From what I can see with this problem, nothing breaks if the version 5 or 6 doesn't get installed, and nothing in the dependency indicates that it will/should. That said, on this machine where I was working on this, something did break, which has since been fixed (but not instantly). > Oh, I see the little pointing up there but in Konsole, th

Howdy, I either started a thread on this a while back or it was mentioned inside another thread. This has been popping up for months now. Either I have something set wrong or there is a problem in a ebuild or something. I just don't know what. This is what I get. I'm having to use this command because it does update everything else. This however triggers the same as I get during a regular world update. root@fireball / # emerge -auDN ffmpeg mpv mplayer These are the packages that would be merged, in order: Calculating dependencies... done! [gentoo-user] nvidia-drivers wants static-libs, I do not.
Howdy, I recently did my weekly updates. It wanted nvidia-drivers to have the static-libs USE flag enabled so I did it. Then the video card wouldn't work when I logged out and back in because of a mismatch somewhere so I disabled static-libs and emerged it again. That fixed the problem of no GUI. Now I'm trying to finish the upgrade and get a clean output. However, it seems a package, vtk and/or opencascade, demands the static-libs USE flag for nvidia-drivers which would again break the display the next time I logout and back in. So, no matter what it wants, it can not have it. The drivers do me no good if the result leaves me without a GUI. This is the best output with details I can get. I've tried removing packages, doing it in smaller parts but either way, it ends up with this: root@fireball / # emerge -auDNt world These are the packages that would be merged: Calculating dependencies... done!
