[Goanet] What If .......

2019-06-15 Thread Gilbert Lawrence
I used to thin that cyclones only affected the Bay of Bengal.  But the current
situation makes coastal areas along the Arabian Sea also vulnerable. What if
Cyclone Vayu changed its course or a future cyclone moved towards Goa?  Would
the state and its villages and individual families be prepared for such a
disaster.Do the communities and government have disaster drills?

Re: [Goanet] What if a Presidential candidate grabbed your genitalia?

2016-10-16 Thread Jim Fernandes

I didn't read the contents of this link and so I don't know what it talks about.

I am responding to the subject line A very catchy at that ...

I would prefer to change the subject line to "What if a sitting President
shoved a cigar up your Would you keep him in office?".

The answer to my question is - YES. Americans did not throw President Clinton
out of office for the above and they certainly give a rat's @ss about
presidential candidates' private lives. What matters is whether the candidate
can be TRUSTED on retaining American jobs in America and whether he/she will
kick the butt of ISIS and enemies of America.

In America, if the voting public were to vote for a candidate based on a
candidate's sexual appetite, arguably 90% of American voting public would be
in-eligible to run for president. Don't forget America voted for President
Clinton twice - even though they knew of his philandering ways.

Sex does not matter in American politics. Period. For many folks in the Battle
Ground states, what matters is - Jobs and Security and whether the candidate
can be trusted.

Even though the pundits place a huge probability of Hillary winning the
elections, I still think Trump has the potential to deliver a surprise upset.
Don't place too much value on the pundits - they lost badly during Brexit.

I am already one up this year for predicting the outcome of Brexit.

[Goanet] What if Aires becomes the chief minister?

Dear Ana Maria,

Interesting set of queries - they actually invite queries of Ana Maria.

So here goes:

1: When did Aires state that he wishes to be CM of Goa? If he has not, WHY
ask him that question?

2: Is Aires a citizen of India? If so, is he allowed to ask questions of his
political representatives? or is it that Salazarism is alive and kicking in
Goa?

3: Could you name ONE dig from Aires at the politicians which you find to be
unjustified? Would you, please care to expand on why you believe it to be
unjustified?

4: As a private citizen, does Aires have to stand the same public scrutiny
that public representatives are expected to face?

5: Now that you have asked Aires questions. Are you able to answer same
queries about yourself?

6: Is there something you wish to tell us about Aires by way of those
questions?

7: Careful now ! Please do not reply without knowing ALL the facts of the
case. Furthermore, please be advised that it is NOT a great idea to get to
entangled into the non-public matters of non-public individuals; non-public
individuals as in NOT paid by the Public Treasury.

My reply:

I'll sum up Ana's post saying, 'Ana, hit the nail on the head.'

However, since the post is concerned with two personalities i. e. 'Famous

Ana must gear-up with equally defensive mechanisms to tackle possible
hypocritical attaching posts that are most likely to appear in this forum.

[Goanet] What if the Baba had managed to escape from the police at Ram Lila?

2011-06-07 Thread SOTER
God saved India from another possible disaster like in the case of Babri Masjid
or Godhra. If the script had gone right the Government and the police would
possibly have had to tackle widespread riots. In all probability the Baba would
have done the disappearing act and within seconds thae air would have been
polluted with rumours about his kidnapping and life being in danger. This was
the platform that the Baba was possibly constructing by repeatedly claiming
that his life is in grave danger. The jumping into the crowds and wearing a
women's Salwar Kameez to escape does not appear as an accident but looks more
like a well scripted drama. All sorts of rumours would have been floating
around on mobile phones and internet to agitate the people into violent acts
ultimately forcing the UPA government to resign or forceng it into declaring a
state of emergency to drive another nail into its coffin. The people of this
nation just cannot afford to take this politics from the religious
fundamentalists very lightly.
Considering the growing recklessness in the response of India's young middle
class and the thinkers, this nation has all the potential to move the
Afghanistan and Pakistan way. This 'Fantasy Bharat' creation of the religious
fundamentalists on how Swiss bank money returning to India will abolish poverty
and how Lok Pal Bill will curb corruption in politics may capture the
imagination of the people, but in the end just like the 'Ram temple' this
notion of a 'Corruption Free India' will remain a tool for political parties to
exploit for the next 10 years till something more glamorous gets marketed. Even
religous heads like the Archbishop of Delhi seem to be falling into this trap.
If such carelessness and rashness will be the response adopted by citizens in
social and political action, then it looks like India may lose its way to
religous fundamentalism.

[Goanet] What if High Risk was .... the story of the hapless Iranian widow

2010-07-10 Thread J. Colaco < jc>
This is the story of an Iranian widow (and mother of two children)
Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani who was convicted of adultery for having
sex with two different men following the death of her husband. She was
convicted of adultery, despite having retracted a confession which she
claims was made under duress.

Human Rights Watch is keenly interested in this case, as this woman
has been sentenced to death by stoning:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/ml_iran_stoning

Now, I know that some High-Risk "officer of the court" will jump up
and down and remind us that .that is the law.

Some years ago (Gabe Menezes, please take note), High Risk advised us
(me included) that the law of the land aka Goa was that ALL a 'Person
accused of molesting a child' had to do, was to prove that he did not
do it. He did (correctly) direct us to the s 32 of the Goa Children's
Act 2003 http://www.colaco.net/1/gca2003.htm.

This means that IF High Risk (or anyone else) has an altercation with
me or a priest (for that matter, ALL he has to do is plaster all over
GoaNet and to the police that we, alone or together, molested a
child at a time when (say) the priest was celebrating Mass (church was
full) and I (say) was a server at the Mass. This complaint could be 9
months after the alleged (implausible) incident.

And IF the implausibility was pointed out to High Risk his next
move would be to conduct a Trial by Media.suggesting (perhaps)
that the priest or I (or any among us) was capable of doing this
because (say) we had a (let's assume) consensual affair with a woman
whose husband was away on board the ship. (Not that these things are
common in Goa !) ..

Let's hope NO one turns round and uses the same s 32 of the Goa
Children's Act 2003 to accuse High Risk of molestation or even Neglect
of Minor children.

On another note I have an academic interest in the Mickey Pacheco
case. It is my personal belief that Mickey is a no good, philandering,
con artists (iow a typical Goan politician). Even so, it would be
interesting to know the basis for his incarceration before trial.)

I will certainly contact HRW when all the facts of the case are known.

For, today ..High Risk is after the Newtons, Fionas and Mickys of
this world. Tomorrow he could be after us.

[Goanet] What if a priest really has a mistress?

2010-01-06 Thread JoeGoaUk

Happy New Year Twenty-Ten

---

What if a priest really has a mistress?

By default, is this OK?
I wonder what Colva  people or others in their areas would say about it?

Would they (or you) say:-
‘Oh! That’s not your problem. Leave priests or religious leaders
alone.  God will see to it’
Or
‘They are human beings,  so they too have life’
Or
‘you lie saying “No, he hasn’t”,  because it’s your religion you worried about’

As for the Colva case, our Bishop or his spokesperson has
said nothing about it.
Or did they let Colva people handle it their way?

The controversial Da Vinci Code film in Goa, there was a silence too
Or did they let Churchill to handle it his way?

Furthermore,
Ministers or a politician, or a businessman or a tiatrist  etc
keeping a mistress with them.

Is this not OK by default?
Why?
Because they are not priests?

If so, I tell you, if I can be one  (by buying jobs as in Govt),
would buy it for ‘dus petti’

Why?
Because of the immunity it enjoys (Thanks to the people)
Women, Money, luxuries, foreign trips, drinking, political
support etc etc
No questions asked, No RTI filing, No CBI or IT raids

Are we letting this to happen?
