Incert+V to open Quick settings.

[JAWS-Users] Navigating the Outlook 2013 Calendar

2014-10-05 Thread Bill Tipton (ML)
Hi all,
I disabled the weather display in my Outlook 2013 Calendar options and that
helped some. I can now see all of my appointments.

Jaws is still very verbose when tabbing from appointment to appointment. JAWS
seems to read the meeting invite subject near the end
of what JAWS speaks for each appointment , so I have to listen for a while
before I hear the subject of the meeting.

Any other ideas would be appreciated.
Thank you. Bill

I used to have Outlook 2007 on my Win 7 Pro PC, would find the date and then
just tab through each meeting for the date. With

Maybe there is an outlook or JAWS setting that will make JAWS read the

[JAWS-Users] Excel 2007 2013: Reading Cells w/ Large Amounts of Data

2014-08-08 Thread Bill Tipton (ML)
Hello,
I use Excel 2007 and Excel 2013 with the latest version of JAWS 15.
How can I change some JAWS setting, use JAWS differently or change Excel to
read the entire contents of each cell as I arrow around
in the spreadsheet? Reason: Some cells have many lines of text, with possible
line feeds so the text looks appealing to sighted
users. At this point I can't even tell what cells have extra text I am missing
with JAWS. I was just in a conference call reviewing
the spreadsheet and the sighted users could see more text then I could is how I
found out about this issue.

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Bill,
You probably already know that a MIDI file contains nothing more than
instructions, like which note to play, how long it plays, and when it plays.
These instructions must then be passed on to some sort of hardware
device which responds to these MIDI instructions by outputting an
audible response in what ever format you choose.
Most computer sound cards have a very basic set of inbuilt sounds and
while they sound pretty terrible, they'll do the job.
You could load your MIDI track into Goldwave which I'm told is quite
accessible and using your sound cards inbuilt wave map, output / mix /
render the audio to mono stereo wave or even the dreaded mp3
HTH.

Try changing your virtual cursor options for copying text in the

letter V, and use down arrow to the select and copy choice. Press
spacebar until the option for full content using on screen highlight

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Combo Boxes IE |Reading Character By Character

Hi all,

How can I read the selections character by character in a combo box in
Internet Explorer 7 or 8 with JAWS 11? (Without Routing JAWS
to PC Curser)
Web site I am having difficulties with is:
http://vausnzpro.austin.hp.com/508Accessibility/Vpat_Select_VPAT_hp.aspx?VPAT_product_category_code=24

Problem is when you activate the combo box on Product Family trying to
verify the product you are looking for.

Is there a JAWS setting I can change, or a JAWS keystroke I can use to
enable me to read the product name character by character?

I would also like to be able to copy the selection in that combo box to Word
or Outlook.

Thank you,

Bill

[JAWS-Users] Filtering in Excel 2007

2010-10-02 Thread Bill Tipton
Hi all,

How do I turn filtering on, and filter a column of data in Excel 2007 with JAWS
11?

I have column A with codes like V, V$, EV, EC and C starting in row 11.

Above row 10 is heading information for the spreadsheet

The data starting at row A11 has breaks with sub headings for each fiscal year
quarter. The sub headings have one line with Quarter
and one blank line below, and above the Quarter break.

I only want to display the non C rows of data.
After I filter, I want to be able to turn the filtering off, so I will have all
data displayed again and the spreadsheet layout
returns to its original look.

QUESTIONS:
1. How do I turn on filtering starting at row A11 for contents of column A?

2. How do I filter so only the non C rows of data are displayed?

3. How do I turn off the filtering so all is displayed again?

Thank you for your help.

Kind regards,

Bill

I need to insert a separator row / line in an Excel Spreadsheet that can be

Data is all on one sheet. Other sheets have different data is why I do not move

the page maybe so one can see the split easily.

How can I do this with JAWS 11 and Excel 2007?

I do not have Office 2007 here at home, so I'm just suggesting things that I
think I've used at work.

Position your cursor in the first cell of the table. Press the Applications
Key and see what the delete feature does.

If that does not work, again position your cursor in the first cell of the
table.
Navigate to the table design tab on the ribbon. Sorry I do not remember the
exact name of this tab or button.
There might be a delete table command here, or maybe some place else on the
ribbon.

In Office 2007, there is a select entire table command. In order to use it
when using JAWS, you have to use the Pass Through command first. I've used
this sequence when converting a table to text, so I do not know if it will
work.

I hope some of this info gets you pointed in the right direction.

Annette

[JAWS-Users] Excel and Merged Cells

2010-03-13 Thread Bill Tipton
Thank you Annette and Brian,

This helps.
After I insert new rows I will just have to be sure I re-merge the title of the
section in the previous columns . If I am correct,
what is the best way to do this?

For example I add a row at a10 with data in C10.
B2 to B9 were merged as a sub title for that section.
A1 to A20 are merged as the main title for that sub group.
Would I unmerge B2-B9 and re-merge as B2-B10?
And do the same for the A section

Any easy way to re-merge cells with a new range, if this is what I need to do
after inserting a new row into this spreadsheet with
merged sections?

Thank you,

Bill

Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Excel and Merged Cells

Hello Bill,

Sometimes people will merge cells in a column to keep large sections of text
Together instead of increasing row height. JAWS will read a merged range of
cells the same way it does a single cell and will tell you the range. In
your example you might have a lot of information to listen to at once. When
you merge information in Excel 2007, you are placing data with the same data
value in a range of cells instead of into one. If you have information
already in several cells and try to merge them then Excel will let you know
that there are cells with different data values trying to be merged and it
will keep only the data in the top left cell of the range. Usually merging
is done for such things as long strings of text like a title or a company
name.

You can still use F2 to go into edit mode and read the text like you would
in a word processor. Using up and down arrow keys will move from line to
line within the merged range, pressing CTRL+home will go to the beginning,
etc. When in edit mode in Excel the insert mode is on so you can add words
between others, you can select and delete a specific amount of text in the
range, and so forth. Your reading, navigating and editing commands should
all work for you if you go into edit mode by using function key 2. If you
want to add a new line in the cell then you need to use Alt+enter key to
force the line break. If you use enter key then you will be brought out of
edit mode.

If you want to remove the merge and work with single cells then move focus
into the merged range of cells and use CTRL+1 to bring up the format dialog.
If the page of the dialog that appears is not the alignment page then use
CTRL+tab until the alignment page tab is active. Use tab key to move
across the controls in the alignment page until you get to a checkbox that
determines whether or not merging is to be used. If the merge cells
checkbox is checked then use a spacebar to remove the checkmark and tab to
the OK button and press enter key.

Take care.

[JAWS-Users] Unmerging Merging Cells in Excel 2007

2010-02-27 Thread Bill Tipton
Hello,

How can I unmerge and merge cells back to the original layout in Excel 2007?
I can pick a cell and unmerge it; problem the spreadsheet I am working with has
many merged cells throughout the workbook in a
variety of locations.
In order to see what is hidden from JAWS and make edits I need to unmerge the
cells.
Problem is putting the workbook back to the way it was originally after I
unmerge the cells for the sighted people who also need to
use this spreadsheet and like the formatting, with all of the merged cells
throughout the workbook.
Any suggestions to unmerge the cells and put back after I have made my edits?
I am using JAWS 11.

Bill

Well, to clear out the text, just push control A, and then hit delete, as
for getting to the field to edit, the quickest way would be to shift tab 3
times, and you should be in the place to add the text.

[JAWS-Users] Outlook 2007- Reading Follow UP Flag - No Date

2010-01-17 Thread Bill Tipton
Hello,

When I flag an email message as follow up - no date , how can I read that
status with JAWS 10? JAWS reads status with no date,
and status when set as one week: I can't tell the difference when reading
through a long list of messages with different follow up
flag statuses.
I have JAWS 11 and 9, but prefer to use JAWS 10 with the other problems with
reading other flag statuses in JAWS 11.
I set flag status to no date in the follow up sub menu.
In JAWS options (insert I) I have flag and follow up status set to on for
Outlook 2007.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Outlook 2007- Reading Status of Messages

Hello,

How can I read the status flag of an email message in Outlook 2007 with JAWS
11?
Example: when I set follow up flag to be complete.

I can use control-insert-4 and JAWS reads, flag status but does not tell
me what the status is. It will also work if I can get
JAWS to read the status of each message as I go through my mail.

Thank you for any help.

When I use my arrow keys to read the text I cannot read each digit one digit at

[JAWS-Users] Removing Jaws key- Adding Back to Count

Are there any configuration changes I can make to Outlook 2007, or Jaws 10 to

If not, do you think this is a Jaws problem or a Microsoft problem?

Hello Bill:

1. Press Alt key followed by F to activate the office button.
2. Press the letter I to open the Word Options dialog.
3. Use down arrow to the proofing category.
4. Use Alt+C to bring up the custom dictionaries dialog box or you can
also tab to the button and press spacebar.
5. You can check out the controls in this dialog box by tabbing. One of
the choices will be to edit the custom.dic file. If you press spacebar on
that button you will get a child dialog that lets you enter new words and
has an add button to be used after adding the new words. There is also a
list of the words in custom.dic and you can verify that the words you add
are added to the list. In the parent dictionaries dialog you will find
buttons for creating new custom dictionaries, removing a custom dictionary,
etc.

Take care.

 Hi all,

I figured out how to move my bullets over towards the left hand margin.
Had to access the tool bar.

 Details are below,

. I activated the decrease button in the tool bar once my line is
highlighted. Seemed to move all of my bullets, but that works for
 what I wanted.

 Navigating Word Toolbars
The Microsoft Word toolbars are fully accessible with JAWS. For best
results, you may wish to ensure the Standard and Formatting
toolbars are not sharing one row. To do this:

 Select Tools, Customize.
On the Options page, clear the Standard and Formatting Toolbars Share one
 Row check box.
 Press ENTER.
To navigate to the Word toolbars, first press the ALT key. This moves you
to the menu bar. Press CTRL+TAB to move to the first
toolbar. This is generally the Standard toolbar. Press TAB or SHIFT+TAB to
move through the buttons. Press ENTER to activate a
 button.

Press CTRL+TAB again to move to the next toolbar, which is usually the
Format toolbar. Press CTRL+SHIFT+TAB to move to the previous
 toolbar.

Word provides many toolbars for many purposes. Choose which are displayed
under View, Toolbars. Any displayed toolbar can be
 accessed using this method.

 Floating Toolbars
Some toolbars in Word float over the document edit window. Floating
toolbars are sometimes difficult to access with the keyboard
and can obscure document text. Therefore, JAWS automatically docks all
floating toolbars in Word. Once a toolbar is docked, you can
access it using the commands described previously. If you want to make the
toolbars float again, press INSERT+V, select Dock
Floating Toolbars, and press the SPACEBAR to choose Off for next time.
Your changes take effect the next time you start Word.

[JAWS-Users] Searching for text in Excel 2003

2009-02-21 Thread Bill Tipton
Hi all,

How can I search for text in Excel and scan through multiple occurrences?

I can use control - f and type in search text and then press escape.

Problem is I have multiple occurrences of search text and want to scan through
all of my choices and then get out of the search
function to edit data.

What is the keystrokes to accomplish this?

I am using Jaws 10 and Excel 2003.

Thank you,

Bill

[JAWS-Users] Excel - fill column with 1's

2009-02-12 Thread Bill Tipton
Hi all,

How can I fill a column in a Excel 2003 spreadsheet range with 1's? For example
f3-f420.

I want to have a column where I can easily add up the number of rows with data.
Then I can use that total for other calculations.

I am using Jaws 9.

Thank you,

Bill

While you have the contact open. Press Alt M, then you can use first letter
navigation to find the field you are looking for. HTH

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Outlook Contact properties- Reading Work Phone

Hi all,

Is there a quick way to read the work phone number in an Outlook contact?

I amusing Outlook 2003 and Jaws 9.

Outlook environment I am on has Exchange servers.

When I type the SMTP email address in the to: field of a email message Outlook
expands to Exchange style email address, last name,
first name.

While on the email address, I select Outlook properties and tab 16 times over
to the work phone number to read the persons phone
number.

All of the people I need to look up the phone numbers are not stored in my
contacts. I just have a list of SMTP email addresses.

Is there a quick way I can get the work phone numbers? I prefer to find another
way, instead of counting 16 tabs, or listening for
when I am on the work phone number.

Thank you,

Bill
