[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2031412] Re: Support mipi camera on Intel Meteor Lake platform
The IPU6 webcam still does not work on my Dell XPS 16 (9640). I've tested it with Ubuntu 24.04 daily builds including with the 6.9-rc1 kernel. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1876632] Re: [nvidia] Corrupted/missing shell textures when switching users or resuming from suspend
I think we have some options to fix this. Yet, which would be a solution that could be packaged? If I understand https://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86_64/510.54/README/powermanagement.html correctly there are the following options: Keep the GPU-Memory Running === Pro: * Only need to set a kernel module parameter Con: * Only works in S2 * Uses more power than necessary (at least if more than 256 MB graphic memory are used) * Does not work with suspend-to-disk (at least if I understood things right) Copy Memory to tmpfs Dump the graphic-memory into tmpfs. I wouldn't suggest using /run, but creating a driver-specific tmpfs that is large enough to hold the graphic memory. Pro: * Just works, as the kernel takes care of paging the tmpfs to disk in case of stand-by or suspend-to-disk. Con: * Delayed suspend and wakeup * Unexpected swap-usage -> OOM-Killer might kick in on suspend if there is not enough or no swap. Get everyone to work around it == Get all the affected applications to update their video-memory after suspend-to-X. Pro: * Does not have any of the Cons of the other solutions Con: * Probably very tedious. Keep it as it is Pro: * Minimal effort * Kind of works most of the time. Con: * Nobody is really happy. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1864061] Re: PCI/internal sound card not detected
As asked by @Hui Wang, I have created a separate bug #1880571 for my problem on focal fossa and run apport-collect. As the data collected by apport showed that timidity was running I have uninstalled timidity and this seems to have fixed the problem: audio output was immediately restored, and after each of three reboots (the last of which after removing "options snd-hda-intel dmic_detect=0" from /etc/modprobe.d /alsa-base.conf), audio output was available right after logging in. So my problem really seems to be a bug in timidity. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1864061 Title: PCI/internal sound card not detected Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in linux-oem-osp1 package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in linux source package in Bionic: Invalid Status in linux-oem-osp1 source package in Bionic: Fix Released Status in linux source package in Eoan: Fix Released Status in linux-oem-osp1 source package in Eoan: Fix Released Bug description: The sof-pci-dev and snd-soc-skl all contains the same pciid, if the soc-skl is loaded ahead of sof-pci-dev, the sof driver will not work anymore, in the oem project, we manually put the soc-skl in the blacklist. This situation occurs for instance in a very specific use case where a PCM device and a Back End DAI link are given identical names in the topology. When this happens, soc_new_pcm_runtime() fails and then snd_soc_add_dai_link() returns -ENOMEM when called from soc_tplg_fe_link_create(). [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1864061] Re: PCI/internal sound card not detected
I have had this on 19.10 (see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source /linux-oem-osp1/+bug/1864061/comments/42) and on 20.04. Adding "options snd-hda-intel dmic_detect=0" to the end of /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf has apparently fixed the issue on 20.04 (microphone is still working). I probably would have tried this earlier if anyone (@Hui Wang ?) had explained a bit more understandably what the problem is, what the workaround does, why it fixes the issue, and what the possible side effects are. Also the bug description says this issue does not arise in focal (20.04), which is incorrect in my and several other commenters' cases. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1763774] Re: nvidia-driver-390 GDM black screen / hang after login
I also have the same problem on Ubuntu 18.04.2. The login screen starts normally, but right after typing my password and pressing enter the screen is black. The problem started after an NVIDIA driver update with "apt upgrade". I was using the nvidia driver form the CUDA Repository. I tried removing and reinstalling nvidia-390 from Ubuntu repos, 410 and 418 from cuda repo and 418 runfile installer from NVIDIA Homepage. The bug is the same for all driver versions. When I uninstall nvidia driver und use nouveau, everything is fine. Also when using the nvidia driver i can login with SSH and `systemctl stop gdm.service` + `systemctl start gdm.service`, then login works fine. Finally switching to lightdm also works now as workaround. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to nvidia-graphics-drivers-390 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1763774 Title: nvidia-driver-390 GDM black screen / hang after login Status in nvidia-graphics-drivers-390 package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Ubuntu 18.04 x64 / gdm AMD 1800x Aorus Gaming K7 (x370 chipset) motherboard NVidia GTX 1080Ti w/ DisplayPort attached 4k monitor USB keyboard / mouse I've recently upgraded from Ubuntu 17.10 x64 to 18.04 x64 via `do-release-upgrade -d` and uninstalled / purged / reinstalled my NVidia native drivers using the `ubuntu-drivers autoinstall` approach. I am able to boot the system and it displays the X login shell at native resolution with a functioning keyboard and mouse, but I cannot ctrl+alt+F{1,2,3,4,...} to a non-graphical terminal. When I click "Sign in" using gnome 3, gnome classic, or Unity, I get a black screen and my input devices hang (keyboard caps lock key no longer functions.) If I unplug and replug my input devices, they remain hanging, with a stuck-on capslock indicator. The mouse is also illuminated. I am able to SSH into the machine, and it is still usable. systemctl status gdm.service indicates that gdm is "running" and does not show an error, but it shows that the login session opened and closed very quickly. I rebooted and SSH'd into the machine before the hang, halted GDM via `systemctl stop gdm.service` and was able to ctrl+alt+F1 into another shell on the attached keyboard. I then executed `systemctl restart gdm.service` and got the expected X login shell. I was then able to log into the desktop environment normally. My Xorg.0.log is here for the successful login: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/SNqJPxV938/ I'll reproduce the behavior and attach an xorg log for the unexpected behavior. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1686189] Re: External monitor connecting problem on Intel graphics card
@Kai-Heng: I do use a mini Displayport Cable with a Lenovo Thinkpad T460S. In the meantime I tried every kernel I could install using ukuu. However, none of them worked. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1699772] Re: linux-image-4.4.0-81-generic Regression: Oracle Java plugin crashes
This should affect all embedded java uses which launch the JVM on the main thread (the regular java launcher does not do that) and is caused by the known buggy (http://www.openwall.com/lists/oss- security/2017/06/22/6) custom CVE-2017-1000364 fix. Testing the upstream patch on debian it seems to be fine (https://bugs.debian.org/cgi- bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=865549). ** Bug watch added: Debian Bug tracker #865549 http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=865549 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1699772 Title: linux-image-4.4.0-81-generic Regression: Oracle Java plugin crashes Status in eclipse package in Ubuntu: New Status in imagej package in Ubuntu: New Status in libreoffice package in Ubuntu: New Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Distribution: Ubuntu 16.04 x64 (Flavour: KDE Neon User Edition 5.10) linux-image-4.4.0-81-generic appears to contain a regression, probably related to the CVE-2017-1000364 fix backport / patch. Using this kernel, the Oracle Java browser plugin always crashes during stack-related actions on initialization. This means, the plugin completely stopped working. It works perfectly fine in linux-image-4.4.0-79-generic (vurlerable to CVE-2017-1000364) as well as linux-image-4.11.6-041106-generic, which also contains a fix for CVE-2017-1000364. uname -a: > Linux Zweiblum 4.4.0-81-generic #104-Ubuntu SMP Wed Jun 14 08:17:06 UTC 2017 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux I tested Oracle Java 1.8 u131 as well as 1.6 u64 in Firefox 51.0.1 as well as Iceweasel / Firefox/3.5.16 in a chroot. I had to install the linux-image-extra package, too, which I didn't in the first try. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1449401 Title: After 14.10 updates to kernel 3.16.0-36, system is not booting, resulting in black screen due to NULL pointer in intel_ring_init_seqno Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in linux source package in Utopic: Fix Released Bug description: This happens everytime I boot after updating kernel from 3.16.0-34 to 3.16.0-36. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1308264] Re: Ubuntu 14.04 Beta 2 stuck at "Switched to clocksource tsc" when booting up, then resumes booting to the login screen, after 1 minute
I just wanted to confirm that Tim's workaround/fix of changing the boot command line in /etc/default/grub works wonderfully! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1308264 Title: Ubuntu 14.04 Beta 2 stuck at "Switched to clocksource tsc" when booting up, then resumes booting to the login screen, after 1 minute Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: On Ubuntu 14.04 Beta 2 (Final Beta), it takes remarkebly long to boot up into Ubuntu. Ubuntu gets stuck at "Switched to clocksource tsc" for a almost 1 minute or longer, then it resumes booting up to the login screen. On Ubuntu 13.10 it only takes about 7 seconds to get to the login screen, while it takes almost more than a minute to get on the login screen on Ubuntu 14.04 Beta 2. I hope this issue could be fixed. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1272777] Re: Elantech touchpads not fully supported for some Gigabyte laptops
Hey guys, i'm on gigabyte u2442n and stopped using ubuntu a couple of month ago because of this bug (mainly use touchpad b/c travelling). Do I understand correctly that kubuntu 14.04 and newer or 3.16 seem to have a fix for this issue? Would love to switch again. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1272777 Title: Elantech touchpads not fully supported for some Gigabyte laptops Status in The Linux Kernel: Unknown Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: This bug report is in addition to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1166442 - the fixes suggested there (which work for others) have been tried but do not work for a small subset of laptops, particularly the Gigabyte U2442 series. Description of the situation for my Gigabyte U2442V most recently running 3.11.0-12-generic on Linux Mint. I tried the updated module mentioned in the above bug report (1166442). It compiles and it detects an Elantech trackpad of *indeterminate version*. I get this in dmesg: [859697.496141] psmouse serio1: elantech: assuming hardware version 3 (with firmware version 0x450f01) [859697.526011] psmouse serio1: elantech: Synaptics capabilities query result 0x58, 0x17, 0x0c. I get no Synaptics driver functionality, and only basic touchpad behaviour (motion and tap-to-click for left click, no scroll or disabling the pad when typing, etc.). It seems I don't have a v9 or v10 trackpad, I've never been able to get a definitive indication of which version I have got. The only thing that has remedied this problem for me in the past was the one described in the original bug report (for elantech-v6 - https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video- intel/+bug/681904/comments/64)... but it no longer applies to newer kernels... With the 3.11.0-12-generic kernel, my Touchpad *is* detected, i.e. xinput shows: ↳ PS/2 Elantech Touchpad id=16 [slave pointer (2)] and dmesg shows: input: PS/2 Elantech Touchpad as /devices/platform/i8042/serio1/input/input14 There are no useful touchpads settings evident in the normal Cinnamon settings utility (gnome-control-center -> Mouse & Touchpads). I see a touchpad settings option with the "gpointing-device-settings" app and I can turn on vertical and horizontal scrolling in the interface, but doing so does not in any way affect that actual touchpad behaviour. I've also tried installing the elantech-v7 module via dkms (see http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2111236&p=12850603#post12850603) and it compiles, but it too fails to provide the desired functionality. --- ApportVersion: 2.12.5-0ubuntu2.2 Architecture: amd64 DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.10 HibernationDevice: RESUME=UUID=29b0358f-f728-4aea-bce5-e233816f27b1 InstallationDate: Installed on 2013-12-11 (46 days ago) InstallationMedia: Linux Mint 16 "petra" - Release amd64 20131126 MachineType: GIGABYTE U2442 MarkForUpload: True Package: linux (not installed) ProcFB: 0 inteldrmfb ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.11.0-12-generic root=UUID=83fd94b8-53eb-4e68-9eeb-cf2e017cbe0d ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.11.0-12.19-generic 3.11.3 RelatedPackageVersions: linux-restricted-modules-3.11.0-12-generic N/A linux-backports-modules-3.11.0-12-generic N/A linux-firmware 1.116 RfKill: 0: phy0: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no Tags: petra Uname: Linux 3.11.0-12-generic x86_64 UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) UserGroups: adm cdrom dip lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo dmi.bios.date: 10/26/2012 dmi.bios.vendor: American Megatrends Inc. dmi.bios.version: U2442.F306 dmi.board.asset.tag: To be filled by O.E.M. dmi.board.name: U2442 dmi.board.vendor: GIGABYTE dmi.board.version: To be filled by O.E.M. dmi.chassis.asset.tag: To Be Filled By O.E.M. dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: To Be Filled By O.E.M. dmi.chassis.version: To Be Filled By O.E.M. dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAmericanMegatrendsInc.:bvrU2442.F306:bd10/26/2012:svnGIGABYTE:pnU2442:pvrTobefilledbyO.E.M.:rvnGIGABYTE:rnU2442:rvrTobefilledbyO.E.M.:cvnToBeFilledByO.E.M.:ct10:cvrToBeFilledByO.E.M.: dmi.product.name: U2442 dmi.product.version: To be filled by O.E.M. dmi.sys.vendor: GIGABYTE To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/1272777/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages Post to : kernel-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

Can also confirm the bug. There seems to be a workaround: Brightness controls do work in terminal mode (Ctrl+Alt+F1) and the change is kept when in GUI mode (Ctrl+Alt+F7). [Kernel-packages] [Bug 515090] Re: Amilo Xi 3650: WLAN/BT hotkey doesn't work
Wow, I completely forgot about this bug report. As I found out in the meantime, this problem only occurs if you use both Windows and Linux. On Windows, whenever the switch button is pressed, a popup appears which prompts you to select the devices you want to turn on/off. When you do, the driver seems to do something linux doesn't understand, as whenever you actually switch one of the devices on or off on Windows, you lose the ability to use the switch on Linux until you reset the BIOS settings. Since I'm not using Windows anymore on that particular laptop, I cannot check whether the problem still exists. I suspect it does. However, since I'm not affected anymore, feel free to close this bug due to a lack of interest, if you want. ;-) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/515090 Title: Amilo Xi 3650: WLAN/BT hotkey doesn't work Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Since I bought an AMILO Xi 3650 laptop some months ago, I always had to boot Vista to be able to turn WLAN and Bluetooth on and off via Fn+F1 (there's only one key for both, on Windows a window appears asking me which of them I want to be enabled). In December I upgraded to lucid and at the beginning of January I suddenly noticed that the hotkey was working, turning both WLAN and BT on and off whenever I pressed it. Today I had to find out that it doesn't work anymore again (since I don't need BT most of the time, it could've already been broken for some days).
