Re: Editing PDFs?

2017-01-23 Thread CHUCK REICHEL
Hi Nektarios,
Yes I want to maintain the pdf format so book marks stay with each audio plugin
from the avid manual.
Converting in to text from my past experience makes a big mess of things! LOL
Thanks
Chuck

Re: Editing PDFs?

2017-01-23 Thread CHUCK REICHEL
Hi Tim,
Thats sounds like a plan. :)
I'll half to "look" in to getting that going.
I'm trying to get this Avid plugin manual broken down in to each individual
plugin chapters, like the pro compressor or the reverb plugin having its own
individual pdf so all book marks when researching the software stay with each
audio plugin.
I'd love to "annotate" it is that doable now in el capitan with preview?
Second reason for cutting the large avid manual into separate "pdf" chapters is
to be able just to highlight the chapter and convert it to audio to sit back
and soak up the in-depth operational information.
would ghost writher or something be better for reading back these pdfs?
Thanks again Tim for your excellent advice.
talk soon

Okay. Once you press Command+r and assuming you set amadeus Pro up so that it
goes in to record/pause mode instead of recording right away, if you look
towards the right end of the screen, you will notice a “play through” button.
IF you press this button, you can activaly monitor exactly what it is you are
recording. You might want to put on headphones before doing this to ensure you
don’t get feedback.

Same page links in Emails on IOS

2017-01-23 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello,
I am running the latest IOS on my iPhone 5S. I read the abridged form of this
forum which I receive as a daily Email. this form starts with a list of topics
with each topic in the list containing a same page link to a list of
abbreviated Emails posted on that topic.
I try to double tap on a desired topic in the above list of topics to read the
associated abbreviated Emails. This sometimes works but usually does not work.
I have tried using word mode to read the topic word by word before double
tapping in the hope that this might get me to the abbreviated Emails in a
reliable way but alas no joy.
Does anyone know of a reliable way to get to the target of a same page link in
an Email?
Many thanks.

Paul Hopewell

Re: google docs

2017-01-23 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

Yes, Google Chrome and ChromeVox is specifically designed for the Google
ecosystem, so is able to navigate Google Docs and other Google apps better.
There is a learning curve though for ChromeVox as it is not the same as VO, nor
those Windows screen readers. So, you get to learn another language :).

If you prefer to use Safari and VO, try pressing cmd-r to Reload the page and
you can usually read the document again by arrowing through it.

One caution I have to add here with respect to Google Docs being sent to you
via eMail. I suggest that you do either or both of the following when opening
Google Docs that are shared or eMailed to you. First, is to make sure that
your browser is open and to be logged in before opening the linked Google Doc.
There is a huge number of phishing expedition eMails out there that send you
Google Docs in this manner. They appear to be from someone you know but
usually are just a really well planned scam. Once you go to open the linked
Google document, it asks you to login to your gMail. When you do, they've got
your gMail ID and password and within seconds are making changes to and
scanning your gMail and documents for usable info. If you know that you're
already logged in and it asks you to log in upon opening this Google Doc, then
you know it's phishing and to stop right there and delete the eMail and do not
enter any credentials. The second method is to enable Two Step or Two Factor
authentication which protects you even if you accidentally enter credentials by
sending you a text verification whenever someone attempts to log in on a device
not normally associated with you.

OK, I'll jump off my soap-box now and close down this long-winded answer to
your question :).

Later...

ChromeVox has its own way of dong things, you'll also need to turn off

I received an attachment in this format. I had to open it in Safari. I wasn’t
sure how to use it using voiceover. I read through the document once but when I
tried to review it a 2nd time I didn’t seem to be able to do it. Does anyone on
this list use it? Could you give me some tips?

Hi there.
I am not sure I understand your question.
When you press command + r you start the recording.
So you don’ t want tha to happen? If you need to be on stand by mode to get
ready and test before recording, you need to go to preferences general and
uncheck start recording immediately.

Re: Editing PDFs?

2017-01-23 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

I just checked, and it is possible to use VO multiple selection techniques in
the thumbnail collection. So, for example, if Chapter 2 began on Page 7, you
could navigate to the thumbnail for Page 7 with VO, then hold down the shift
key and arrow down to the bottom. VO doesn't appear to announce what's
selected properly, but if you simply hold down the shift key and arrow lots of
times, then press the Delete key, you'll get rid of a lot of pages quickly.

Hi,

This could be accomplished in Preview. I haven't tested it thoroughly, but
it's more easily done from a sighted prospective. Once the pdf is open in
Preview, go up to the View menu and choose ThumbNails. This will display an
area with a thumbnail view of each page. If you VO-space on that page, then it
would maximize the specific page. So, what I'm suggesting is that you make 20
copies of the full pdf while in the Finder using cmd-d to duplicate each copy,
and naming them Chapter 1 through 20 accordingly. Then, when you open the one
named Chapter one, press on any page in the thumbnail view that is not part of
Chapter 1, then press your Delete key. Repeat this process until only pages
that are part of Chapter 1 are present and save the modified pdf. This sounds
tedious, but it does the job. Sighted users are able to select multiple
thumbnails and delete them on mass, but I'm not sure how easy that is from a VO
prospective. May be possible, but I haven't played with that aspect much yet.

Re: Editing PDFs?

2017-01-23 Thread Nektarios Mallas
Hello there!
If you are not interested in keeping the pdf format in tact, you could export
this to any text format such as RTF and then edit all you want.
I don’ t understand why going through all this trubble unless you need all the
visual stuff, and even in that case, exporting the file to something else could
give you that as well.
