Restore system preferences?

In setting up a new Mac mini, I have made a mess of tge display, such that it 
keeps going black totally and tge dock only reappears if I right click near the 
bottom of tge screen. I somehow have managed to connect my Logitech k480 
Bluetooth keyboard to the Mac mini without configuring it - so now the VO keys 
and tge Command key to left of tge space bar are not recognised. 
Is there a simple way to restore the original system preferences so I can start 
all over again?

Accessible video conferencing

Hello

I’ve been asked to join a committee which frequently does virtual meetings. 
They have an assortment of tech, PCs tablets and so on. They are all sighted. 
Some of them are not very advanced users of the tech they have.

Can anyone recommend a cross platform method of video conferencing that is 
completely VO friendly? I suspect audio would do, but you know what those 
sighted people are like.

You have several possibilities depending on how extreme you want to go.

1. You could try renaming ~/Library/ or  ~/Library/Preferences
2. You could wipe the hard drive from within the recovery system and
restart.
3. You could adjust "dock hiding", "sleep timers" and background images
from your system.

For step one open the finder and use the goto function to goto ~/Library
and then use the enter key to rename the file. Then reboot. After rebooting
you should be able to move the renamed directory to the trash.

For a complete restart find the directions to restart in recovery disk mode
and then chose to erase your hard disk. In earlier OS's you had to open the
tools menu. I think there is a more obvious way in Sierra and High Sierra.

3D touch on iPhone X

So I recently got an iPhone X. This is the first time with a device with #D 
touch and I want to know how I might go about performing a 3D touch with 
voiceover enabled?

Hi,

Just once.  The difference between this and regular sorts of tapping is that 
you should actually be on the proper location of the icon on the screen.  So, 
if your Messages app is up near the top left of your screen, place your finger 
up there and move it slightly until you hear VO announce Messages, then press 
firmly.  Normally, when we swipe around with VO, we don't need to be in. the 
same location, but in these 3D Touch situations, you should.

Hi,

To add and clarify, I just tested and you can do a double-tap then press firmly 
for this to work as well.  Make sure that the double-tap is fairly quick and 
that you press firmly on the second tap.  Again, the firm press needs to be 
quite quick on the second tap, otherwise, the 3D Touch will not engage.

Hi,

I use Google Meet, or Google Hangout and find them to be perfectly usable.  As 
in many Google products in the G Suite, they are often not particularly 
intuitive to the VO user, but with the Item Chooser and such, they are totally 
usable.  Connecting is easy, toggling on/off both the mic and camera are also 
easy to reach.

Simply locate the item you wish to 3D press on, then press firmly on that icon. 
 You'll feel two quick minor vibrations to let you know it worked, then 
there'll be options to swipe through.

iPhone X gestures and tips

Hi all, I thought I would post the iPhone X gestures for the 
iPhone X for new users out there and for the people who are thinking of getting 
an iPhone X. I will say that the gestures are easy to learn if you are willing 
to learn them. First to unlock and to go home you swipe up from the bottom edge 
of the screen until you feel the first vibration. You will hear clicking 
sounds. You will want the first click to go home. To go to the app switcher 
swipe up from the bottom until you feel the second vibration. Instead of triple 
clicking the home button you triple click the side button which was previously 
known as the sleep/wake button. A face ID tip: when setting up Face ID you want 
to hold the phone at about arms length away from your face.

There are 2 main press types for 3d if you pres firmly then you'll get a look 
if you press harder then it will mostlikely activate things.

Can only really suggest playing as I still can't get it right when I try it.

The volume is plenty loud for me, most of the time. The problem I run into is 
after swimming or otherwise getting the device wet. At that point, it gets a 
great deal quieter until it dries some. The water lock sound helps, but not as 
much as you'd think. I've found that making a call on it, so that the speaker 
has to play the sound of the phone ringing on the other end, does a good job of 
clearing water.

Hi Ben,

We use the nest thermostat. I like it very well, the iPhone app is quite 
accessible. Setting up the schedule can be a bit of a trick, but otherwise it

Hi
 We just got the Ecobee 4. The thermostat works with HomeKit, and allows the 
use of room sensors, unlike the nest. The app isn’t the greatest, but once you 
have it set up with HomeKit, you don’t really need the app for that much.
