[MBZ] Lucas Transmission Fix
Mitch, My 1980 300SD with the used tranny installed a year ago slips between 2/3 and 3/4 under medium load. I just had it serviced and had a bottle of Lucas added. Lucas claims to fix slipping, hard shifts, etc. etc. There was no immediate improvement as some claim on Youtube. I'll report back as well once I've driven it awhile. If it doesn't show improvement, I'll take it back to my Indie for a drain and refill with regular ATF. My Indie thought I was crazy (maybe I am), but he didn't see how a product could fix both hard shifting and slipping as they are at somewhat opposite ends of the problem scale. But I'm still open about it so I'll wait and see. Good luck to you too. Best Wishes, Roger Roger Hale Dinnerware Classics, Inc. That was about fifty years ago. Now we have a unified school board for all of Charleston county. I think that a majority of the school board members are black. About three years ago, they released a five-year plan for raising student performance, with goals each year for increasing the English and math proficiency at each grade level. They had different, lower standards for black kids. I was, and still am, flabbergasted. I challenged several Principals and school board members, but they all tried to explain about difficult socioeconomic circumstances and such BS. Seems to me that many of our current school board and Charleston county school district employees are completely ignorant of this local history, are racist, and need to find employment elsewhere. -- Max Dillon Charleston SC '87 300TD '95 E300 ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: https://server.secureplusplusfour.net:2083/cpsess595060604/3rdparty/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com ___ http://www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: https://server.secureplusplusfour.net:2083/cpsess595060604/3rdparty/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Still works fine in drive, and in overdrive as long as you shift back into drive while you're still going over 30mph. This is a sticking piston, I've heard it's plastic and gets bent after 150k or so. Mine started doing it at about 180k. 2. Hard shift into 2nd. I this is a worn clutch pack but I'm not sure. Don't expect magic chemicals to fix it. 3. Doesn't always lock the converter at freeway speeds. This one throws a code, so the computer is trying to lock it but it just doesn't happen. 4. I just remembered one more. In real cold weather, there were a couple of times it didn't want to go forward or backward for the first 30-60 seconds. Makes me wonder how much of 1-3 is from a weak pump. I have a good used valve body, complete with pump and all solenoids including the TQ solenoid. I figure that when I have the time to put that in, everything but the slow hard shift into 2nd should go away. Now Curt has me thinking. The Lucas has a definite odor, but is it ATF-like or weakly like gear oil? It doesn't smell as strong as gear oil. I guess it's been a few years since I sniffed a fresh bottle of 85W-90 or dino ATF. Re: [MBZ] Potential poos car
Looked at a 1999 S320 this morning in Sarasota. Former diplomatic corps retiree with more money than he knows what to do with. Long time MB owner, first one was a new 1979 300D he did through diplomatic program with European delivery. His wife just bought a Maserati convertible for a fun car. Go figure. Anyway, car has 154k on it, second owner (not first as he said in the ad), a CPO car when he bought it in Alexandria, VA from the MB dealer there. 3000 mile oil changes, all service done by the dealer with documentation, good mechanicals, pretty decent cosmetics, everything works. The car was amazingly peppy for a six in a W140 chassis, as we took it out on the interstate and I really put my foot into it. Certainly not the neck-snapping response you get from the M119, but still pretty good considering the significantly smaller engine with the same amount of iron behind it and the AC running full blast. It's got some sort of 3M clear film on the nose and hood that was installed by the VA dealer to prevent rock chips. Hmm. Looks like it can come off easily, and since it's clear there doesn't seem to be any effect on the paint color (black). Both front and rear bumpers are faded, and the top portions of the front bumper are starting to fail paint-wise, which is not surprising and something commonly seen on these cars, especially down here. Engine compartment was clean and everything was intact and in place. Looks like it might need motor mounts, but there wasn't a noticeable amount of vibration in the passenger compartment. They just looked collapsed. Bottom of the car and wheel wells were clean with no signs of rust. Some minor surface rust on some of the front suspension components, but nothing of significance. Good tires (It's always had Michelins!) but dirty wheels. Lots of brake pad present. Trunk is clean and all the things you would expect are in it, including an MB cover for the car. No signs of water or other nastiness. 1.5 year old MB battery. Interior leather had some overall wear but no rips, tears or breakdown, especially on the driver's side bolster. All the interior bits work, including sunroof, seats and instrumentation. Original Becker with trunk mounted CD changer. AC worked and showed no error codes in diagnostics, and was ICE COLD during our drive with an ambient of about 85F. Carpets are clean and pretty much unworn. Headliner is clean and intact. Negatives: Driver's side rear door has ding in front of door handle where someone nailed them in a parking lot with a car door or something. Not something the paintless dent guys could fix, I think, but I'm not sure. Paint isn't broken, which is good. As mentioned previously, both front and rear bumpers need repaint. Side lower trim panels look a little flat as well, but that may be me. It's possible a hard core Martha session could bring them back. All in all, a definitely contender for addition to the fleet. He's been asking $4500 or best offer and has had no takers, for that matter, no one else has looked at the car. It's a $3500 car in this market, which I may offer him once I see the other car in Orlando later today if my plans work out. He and the wife are leaving on one of those European river cruises this Wednesday and will be gone for a couple of weeks, so if I can't work something out before that I'll have to keep searching if I'm interested. If I do follow through, I'm thinking having $3500 cash in hand before popping off to Europe might be some incentive, but it's clear this guy has a LOT of money, so that might not be a big motivation. We'll see. Re: [MBZ] Potential poos car - addendum
It has a rear sun shade that's not working - no biggie, easy fix. It also has heated seats.
