Re: [MBZ] New Okie Acres

2021-04-29 Thread dan--- via Mercedes
Clay,

If they’re not set on ND the former Amish farm I posted in the original post
might be of interest. I think it was 100 acres with 60 farmable. Big Amish
house and related buildings that need some work and most likely electricity run
in them. Outside of Wausau, WI, which is about as temperate as ND, probably
better. Under $400k, which seems like a good deal.

Figure you could lease the farmland to start.

Wausau gets a lot less snow and wind, much better climate, and some decent
topography (rolling hills).  However, the state politics are going south.  A
big advantage for Wisconsin is that the Governor has a line item veto power, so
he can strike out any stupid pork or other nonsense from legislative
malfeasance, and keep them budget balanced.  All that is for nought if the
voters don't vote wisely.

2021-04-29 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
True on the climate, but it’s just as cold. I’ve spent more time than I care to
recall in the Wausau area in the winter and it’s not pleasant. Not nearly as
bad as the northern plains, however.

It didn’t occur to me until now that since it’s a former Amish farm there won’t
be electricity in the buildings most likely. You would have to go through and
“electrify” all of the structures which could be pricey of you had to pay to do
it.

Pffft. Try dragging a hay baler around, or a 2-bottom plow.
Now _those_ generate some dust! :-)

In spite of the above, I still have fond memories of driving
our Farmall 200 as a kid. I'd wished we had a loader, but
I'm not sure it would have been good on the tricycle model
we had. It was never laid over, unlike our Moline, which only
had one headlight on it as a result. On the Moline it was easy
to bail off the back if it started to go over, unlike the perch-on-top
Farmall. Also, if you grabbed the hand clutch on your way out
you could disengage everything, unlike a foot clutch.

My boy is the electrician, so that works for them. He knows some plumbing.
They also have the heavy diesel mechanic (to keep the generator going) and a
pair of IT workers. One of whose wife is going to be in charge of “farming”.
They boys want their own range on the property, and to have some hunting fun.
Nobody swings hammers. If they could source a mason, that could give them a
sturdy fortified keep.

[MBZ] 99E320

2021-04-29 Thread Floyd Thursby via Mercedes
A guy I know posted on a local FB group he was looking for a decent
cheaper car so I said I had this 95E320 and a 99E320.  He came to look
at the 99 right after I got home, he's out driving it and showing it to
his GF.  I was gonna post it for $2500, told him I'd take $2200, wasn't
interested in dickering on that price given the craziness in the used
car market.  Last time I drove it the PS pump was wonky and not working
well, this evening it is making a little whine but working fine.  AC
needs a can of 134 dumped in as it is lukecold right now.

He's on his way back here, will see what sorts out.  It's actually a
pretty nice car, that would be a good deal.

The chinese are swooping in and leveling homes on lots over 0.25 acre. Then
they toss up these slim townhomes that are no wider than a garage. Zoning
allows for mass density. Maybe the investor got the property for a million,
bulldozes and puts up seven units that sell for $1mm each. One two block area
close to the children’s hospital he snagged five lots that had 70 year old
duplexes (formerly nurses and intern housing) and populated them with the
townhomes. I counted over 20 units.
