Hi, on:

http://qgis.org/downloads/data/

I see there is another dataset available: qgis_sample_data.zip, besides
the one for the QGIS-Training-Data...

Should we pull that in Github too? Or is that not used anymore?
It is rather small compared to the training one?

Richard

Ok, done:

we now have:

https://github.com/qgis/QGIS-Training-Data/archive/QGIS-2.14-Training-Data.zip

for 2.14 branch of doc

and

https://github.com/qgis/QGIS-Training-Data/archive/master.zip

for newer and master branches

that's exactly the point.. there are some workaround to download folders
separately, but none of the method I found is "smart"..

totally agree with you. I was just thinking if in the future for some
new feature, there will be the need to have another dataset, we can just
create another repo so that we will have another *unique* link

So can I change the link in the Training Manual for downloading the data?

Thanks!

Matteo,

Thanks for this work!

I do not think it is possible on Github to download a folder separately
from a Repository. That is: this 'download zip' functionality is there
only for full repo's.
Did you find another way?

Else: I would just create a separate repo for this 'other' dataset. We
can have as much (data)-repo's as we want? Though I do not think we
should split up the data unless there is a good reason for it?

Ok, done:

https://github.com/qgis/QGIS-Training-Data

Please let me know if the name is ok, or if you think another name is
more appropriate (QGIS-Data, QGIS-Excercise-Data, QGIS-Demo-Data)...

@matteo: will you move some data to it, and check if we can use a direct
url to it?
We should probably also put a clear (open) copyright notice to/in all
files...

Yes, basicly, for all data needed for training and GIS introduction!

This doesn't change so much for the current situation, except that we should
create another repository but all in all, this will improve the data
management.

Yves,

you are suggesting to have another repo just for the exercise data?

Don't know what other people think, but it sounds like a very good solution.

No scripts to keep zip and data updated and easy upload and download of
the data..

If we use another specific repository, we can easily link to the repository
tarball:

For example, the one for QGIS source code:
https://github.com/qgis/QGIS-Documentation/archive/master.zip

What do you think about this?

Hi Matteo,

no scripts.. I fixed the zips some time ago by hand (adding a
'changelog' file in them..

IF you create a script for that... even better ! :-)
I think you have to 'merge' the stuff from github with already available
data in zip? Or is ALL on github?

Happy to put a new zip on qgis.org (or ask anybody on irc that has
access to qgis)...

Thanks for taking care of this!

This is two different locations. A synchronisation is needed or better a link
