[Bug 325823] Re: "Loading, please wait..." takes too long when recovery from software raid failure

2009-08-23 Thread marco.pallotta
ld2ndR, I also tried the issue with 9.04 (alternate desktop CD) and the results
are that the system hangs up at the same step than it does on 8.04 (see my
screenshot) but for "only" 30 seconds.
Maybe the things are acceptable now even if we should know if it's the expected
wait time before marking it fixed (if I remembered well. when I was a Suse user
I didn't wait any seconds in a similar situation)

Nominations for server-related bugs are discussed weekly at the Ubuntu

[Bug 386307] Re: -java package should not recommend -java-gcj counterpart on all architectures

2009-08-23 Thread Thierry Carrez
Alvin:
The rationale for those packages is slightly different, since not fixing it
will not result in a oversized server CD, which makes those a lot less critical.

In particular, the trick I've been mostly using (building the package
for any architecture, rather than once for "all") is costly in terms of
resources, so we wanted to limit it to a few key packages. However this
question might be revisited for next release as we move to JIT
capabilities on alternate archs, and then using "Suggests" will have no
downside.

I'd suggest opening another bug to track the remaining ones (with one
package task for each source package, using "Also affects
distribution...")

Thanks !

[Bug 417998] [NEW] Internet adress in panel is not changing, control buttons are blank

2009-08-23 Thread Pospa
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Internet connection is OK, I opened the ubuntu wikipedia CZ page and then it
starts. Adress in adress panel dont change (no reaction on opening new panel,
browse to other pages), but still i can rewrite it and use it. But the
adress is the same like last open page from this pannel. Control buttons (back,
forward, reload, stop) are blank (on all panels, pages...). And some pages
(like this to report bug or ubuntu wiki) still has an icon of loading page.
Thats all. I haven't got these problems before, I don't know any reason
(aunning applications, instalations, Internet connection) why this happes.

[Bug 99432] Re: wireless network not working now

2009-08-23 Thread sefs
I see here that a fixed was released.

It is now 2009 of August. I am on 9.04 jaunty

I am trying to use /etc/network/interfaces

this is what it looks like...

auto wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
pre-up ifconfig wlan0 down
pre-up ifconfig wlan0 up
pre-up iwconfig wlan0 essid myap
pre-up iwconfig wlan0 mode Managed
pre-up iwconfig wlan0 channel 11
pre-up iwpriv wlan0 set AuthMode=WPA2PSK
   pre-up iwpriv wlan0 set EncrypType=AES
   pre-up iwpriv wlan0 set
WPAPSK=jdfkasjfkajsfpajfdakjf;lkaj;flja;lfjijpeijpfj

This produces the errors

wlan0 no private ioctls.

I'm going to file a seperate bug as well but just wanted to try here
first.

Thanks.

Indeed I got that once as well. However, it also happens with that
patch applied, so I believe it's a different cause now.

Can you reproduce the double-suspend with version
2.27.5-0ubuntu1.test1 in

really don't need that old patch any more.

[Bug 409559] Re: version 1.6.0_15 is available

2009-08-23 Thread Magnus
Jamie,

There is another option that 'simple users' might fall back to:

f) Use another operating system until there is a mended version of Sun
Java available for Ubuntu.

Unfortunately this negatively affects the quite good progress of Ubuntu
bug #1, and that is probably what is most disturbing of this situation.

Maybe we can arrange a bounty of some kind? Perhaps that will motivate
someone in the community?

[Bug 389040] Re: Realtek ALC272 not working in 9.04 but its working under 8.10

2009-08-23 Thread dimeotane
I've installed the patched kernel on Ubuntu Netbook Remix - Karmic and
now I've got sound on my headphones and speaker!!! Thankyou!!

I added to my alsa-base.conf
options snd-hda-intel model=toshiba (model=ALC272 also works)

No luck getting the internal mic to work however with that.

alsamixer gives the option for capture input source to be D-mic or Ext-
mic, but these don't seem to work.

strangely enough model=auto seems to give different options for the mic and I
can see on the levels that it is sensing sound in the internal mic, but it
won't play back audio.

2009-08-23 Thread silvagroup
Well I hate to put my 2 cents worth in since there are plenty of complaints
already, but I too have the same annoying problem. And it's this type of things
that gives a great OS a bad rap for the average user. I know how to get to the
work a rounds but average Joe would just give up and go to the OTHER OS's.
Is ther any hope for a fix on this yet? Seems to be well known and a problem
for awhile.

Fixed for me in Jaunty.
I can lock my screen by setting the shortcut MOD4+L.
It also works correctly when connected to a Windows machine via rdesktop.

[Bug 382473] Re: right-alt key not working after changing "keyboard layout change" key to "both alt keys together"

2009-08-23 Thread Michael Lustfield
I also looked at this.

xmodmap: up to 4 keys per modifier, (keycodes in parentheses):

shift Shift_L (0x32), Shift_R (0x3e)
lockCaps_Lock (0x42)
control Control_L (0x25), Control_R (0x69)
mod1Alt_L (0x40), Meta_L (0xcd)
mod2Num_Lock (0x4d)
mod3
mod4Super_L (0x85), Super_R (0x86), Super_L (0xce), Hyper_L (0xcf)
mod5ISO_Level3_Shift (0x5c), Mode_switch (0xcb)

A post from somebody using 9.04 had this change instead.
mod4ISO_Level3_Shift (0x85), ISO_Level3_Shift (0x86), Super_L (0xce),
 Hyper_L (0xcf)

[Bug 417964] Re: Authentication always required to unmount media

2009-08-23 Thread Brian Rogers
It looks like the files in /usr/share/polkit-1/actions need to be in
/usr/share/PolicyKit/policy to show up in the Authorizations control
panel. I wonder if the /usr/share/polkit-1 location is obsolete. There
are other packages that put files there...

Additionally, it doesn't like the lines containing
"auth_admin_keep". I had to comment out
those lines to get the stuff in that file to show up. I enabled all
users to unmount other filesystems, and I now get a different error:
"Failed to eject media; one or more volumes on the media are busy".

[Bug 417981] [NEW] I can see some Tibetan script and not others in Wikipedia

2009-08-23 Thread B9 hummingbird hovering
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: firefox-3.0

Please refer this conversation in the Multilingual Support Help Talk for
Wikipedia:

My Notebook is running Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04 on the Netbook Remix. I have
followed the instructions for rendering support for Tibetan texts but I
still cannot see it in Wikimedia Projects in certain instances. I have
installed the fonts and have even enabled the Keyboard Indicator to type
in Tibetan or Dzongkha but in certain Wikimedia articles Tibetan text is
invisible. I confirmed this with User:BabelStone. I can see Tibetan on
the Rongzompa article but not in the "your computer" section of the
Help:Multilingual_support_(Indic)#Check_for_existing_support. B9
hummingbird hovering (talk • contribs) 16:46, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

 * I suspect this might be a Firefox bug. The difference between the
Rongzompa article and this one seems to be that that one uses {{bo}} and
this one uses {{lang}}:

In principle, the latter should work. If you can see the former and
not the latter, it may be related to this Firefox bug I filed (no
response), but it may be an entirely different bug as well. Hope
something helps, Shreevatsa (talk) 18:05, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

[Bug 405073] Re: epiphany-gecko crashed with SIGSEGV

2009-08-23 Thread José Alburquerque
The package is now available, but it is hard to reproduce this because
it doesn't happen all the time. It just happened recently so I filed
bug #417971 instead of trying to get a backtrace. I hope that's okay.
If so, this one can be closed and bug #417971 be resolved in its place.

[Bug 417952] Re: hard drive beying reported as sector bad

2009-08-23 Thread Mike Pontillo
Thank you for your bug report.

Unfortunately, we do not have enough information to determine if this is
a bug in Ubuntu, or if there are actual bad sectors on your drive.
Either is possible at this point.

In order to help us troubleshoot the problem, please do the following:

1. Press Alt-F2
2. Paste the following line into the "Run Application" text box:

/bin/bash -c "devkit-disks --dump > ~/devkit-disks-dump.txt"

3. Attach the "devkit-disks-dump.txt" file (which will be in your Home
Folder) to this bug report

[Bug 417980] [NEW] Unable to send more than one file of same track artist and title to device via MTP

2009-08-23 Thread Chris Lasher
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

If an external device is mounted in Rhythmbox via the MTP plugin, the
user will experience an error in transferring a song to the device that
has the same track artist and track title as an existing track on the
external device. The error states:

PTP Layer error 200f: LIBMTP_Send_File_From_File_Descriptor(): Could not
send object info.

This bug is highly reproducible.

In my library, I have several artists for which I have multiple
recordings of their songs (typically from different albums). I am only
able to store at most one of these recordings on my external device when
transferring music over by MTP. Is only the track artist and title used
to describe the file when transferring by MTP, and if so, can something
more distinguishing be used so that multiple recordings of the same song
by the same artist may be transfered via MTP?

I say change the wording. As for the time-remaining indicator that
applies to the whole install process, I think it's a good idea but do we
have any reliable way to estimate that? I hate it when the Windows XP
installer says I have like 15 minutes left and it ends up taking twice
that long.

Re: [Bug 334249] Re: Dell Laptop vostro 1310, Internal Keyboard and Touchpad not working anymore on 9.04 jaunty

2009-08-23 Thread Swift Arrow
Try this:
After booting up, read the grub instructions. You should be able to press e
to edit one of the boot options. press e. select the kopt line (Kernel
options line) to edit, press e again (if I remember correctly).

Add i8042.reset i8042.nodemux to the end of the line. then boot from that
line.

Now your keyboard should work when you get to ubuntu.

edit (as root) your /boot/grub/menu.lst file to include "i8042.reset
i8042.nodemux" to the end of the kopt line.

Save it. Your problems shoudl be solved until next update. Next time you
upgrade your kernel, those options that you just added won't be carried
forward. To carry them forward automatically, add those options to the
default kernel options in the automagic kernels list section of menu.lst,
and run sudo update-grub
