As a workaround I updated to Thunderbird Beta (v. 97.0b3) and it does
not cause the alt-tab problem.

2022-01-14 Thread Hans109h
In Jammy Jellyfish (Thunderbird 91.5.0, GNOME Shell 40.5) when this bug
occurs it also cause the Thunderbird window to not display at all. The
application dock shows that it is open, but there is no way to get to it
unless you right click the dock icon and open a new window.

Sharing here as I believe it is related. Hopefully the fix committed
will take care of this.

[Bug 1955586] [NEW] Revert "layout: Exclude hidden actors from struts"

2021-12-22 Thread Hans109h
Public bug reported:

A previous commit to mutter causes unintended problems for users. This
commit is reverted upstream in gnome-shell 40.6.

More information here:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/commit/aded2cd01b7af4d2bf355ed7cb129c6b869d84fb

My original bug report is here:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/-/issues/4886#note_1338482

I'm posting this as a Ubuntu bug in hopes that if gnome-shell 40.6 is
not to be updated in 21.10 for sometime, that at least the commit can be
reverted.

The bug has disappeared for me, and that might explain why it's low

[Bug 1933996] [NEW] Alt-tab stops switching windows

2021-06-29 Thread Hans109h
Public bug reported:

When a new Wayland session is created from a login, Alt-tab works as
expected to change windows. After sometime Alt-tab fails to do anything
(super-tab still works to change applications) and the following error
is created in syslog:

gnome-shell[18]: JS ERROR: TypeError: window is
null#012_createWindowClone@resource:///org/gnome/shell/ui/altTab.js:29:27#012_init@resource:///org/gnome/shell/ui/altTab.js:1004:34#012_init@resource:///org/gnome/shell/ui/altTab.js:1045:24#012_init@resource:///org/gnome/shell/ui/altTab.js:568:30#012_startSwitcher@resource:///org/gnome/shell/ui/windowManager.js:2069:24

The only workaround I have found is to logout and log back in, however
after some time the error repeats itself.

2019-01-14 Thread Hans109h
Based on your response this is probably not a bug, but is rather a
result of things I had to do to build gdal with MrSID support for use in
qgis. I say this because when you asked if libtbb.so.2 exists I did a
locate and found that that file was included in the the build files for
that specific SDK. I don't fully understand this but my assumption is
that some wires got crossed.

Since building mpv from source has fixed my problem, I'm fine if this
bug report is closed.

Regardless, the output of nm is as follows:

0001fda0 T tbb::interface7::internal::task_arena_base::internal_attach()
000205a0 T
tbb::interface7::internal::task_arena_base::internal_terminate()

mpv is set as the default video player. When double clicking on a video
file in either Nautilus or Nemo the action fails with the following
error:

In the past this same action has resulted in mpv opening and playing the

file.

opening mpv from the command line using "mpv nameofvideo.avi" works
without failure.

[Bug 1632194] [NEW] To much scrollbar padding to the right

2016-10-10 Thread Hans109h
Public bug reported:

Padding on all scrollbars in Thunderbird does not allow the mouse to
click the scrollbar button when all the way to the right of the screen.
Clicking in the trough results in erratic scrolling.

I was able to fix this behavior in Firefox by creating a
~/.mozilla/firefox//chrome/userChrome.css file and adding
"hbox#browser { margin-right: -1px !important; }". How can I add this
setting to Thunderbird?

[Bug 1559889] [NEW] eject -i 1 no longer disables cd-rom physical button

2016-03-21 Thread Hans109h
Public bug reported:

I believe this is related to a recent kernel update. My dvd-rom drive
has a very sensitive button, so I have a cron job that runs 'eject -i 1'
every minute so that the drive doesn't accidentally open if I bump it.
This has worked for a very long time, however this week I noticed that

[Bug 1509751] Re: Kernel disabling serial port ttyS0 again

2016-01-22 Thread Hans109h
e0f03e87fc6f27a8af9896f430f2945b3b1664c0 is the first bad commit
commit e0f03e87fc6f27a8af9896f430f2945b3b1664c0
Author: Heiner Kallweit
Date: Wed Dec 16 07:33:22 2015 +0100

PNP: respect PNP_DRIVER_RES_DO_NOT_CHANGE when detaching

I have a device (Nuvoton 6779D Super-IO IR RC with nuvoton-cir driver)
which works after initial boot but not any longer if I unload and
re-load the driver module.

Digging into the issue I found that unloading the driver calls
pnp_disable_dev although the driver has flag PNP_DRIVER_RES_DO_NOT_CHANGE
set. IMHO this is not right.

Let's have a look at the call chain when probing a device:
pnp_device_probe
1. attaches the device
2. if it's not active and PNP_DRIVER_RES_DO_NOT_CHANGE is not set
   it gets activated
3. probes driver

I think pnp_device_remove should do it in reverse order and also
respect PNP_DRIVER_RES_DO_NOT_CHANGE. Therefore:
1. call drivers remove callback
2. if device is active and PNP_DRIVER_RES_DO_NOT_CHANGE is not set
   disable it
3. detach device

The change works for me and sounds logical to me.
However I don't know the pnp driver in detail so I might be wrong.

[Bug 1500673] Re: gdm unusable after upgrading to 15.10

2015-11-12 Thread Hans109h
I am following this bug as I had some similar oddities after upgrading
from U.Gnome 15.04 to 15.10. During the install I elected to keep the
existing copy of /etc/gdm/custom.conf because I had made changes to the
"list users" section that I wanted to keep.

Today I decided to replace my existing copy with the dpkg-dist copy, and
low and behold, using that conf got everything back to normal. Just
commenting in case it helps others.

[Bug 1460313] Re: webcam indicator LED remains lit after resume from suspend

2015-06-02 Thread Hans109h
I have found the adjacent kernel versions and have begun the commit
bisecting, however I have run into some problems.

First, I have found the adjacent kernel versions to be v4.0-rc1 (good)
and v3.19.8 (bad) and I did:

git checkout v4.0-rc1
git bisect start
git bisect good v3.19.8

however v.3.19.8 is not available so I reran the command with:

git bisect good v.3.19-rc7

3.19-rc7 was the next previous version I could find, so I proceeded
with:

git bisect bad v4.13-rc5

and then built the kernel. After the kernel built I installed it and
loaded it, however as a result, using that kernel my computer would not
suspend simply by shutting the lid.

I had to use 'sudo pm-suspend' which appeared to suspend the machine but
I could not get the computer to wake up after that without a hard
reboot.

I then rebooted and reported the test results as 'git bisect good' and
then started to build the kernel. The result of this build was the same
as the first. I also reported that with 'git bisect good'. Currently I
am building the kernel for the third time.

Should I continue with this method of testing?

When viewing motion jpeg streams from a web camera controled by
zoneminder the stream flickers (shows the image placeholder between two
images).

I can not pinpoint when this started, but probably within the last
month. Does not happen in other browsers, but happens on multiple
computers using firefox.

[Bug 1313981] Re: Kernel disabling serial port ttyS0 on boot

2014-05-11 Thread Hans109h
I am in the process of trying to bisect the kernel, however what I load
any kernel prior to 3.13.0-24 I lose my mouse and keyboard (and I think
all USB functionality) halfway through the boot.

If anyone can point me in the right direction.

[Bug 1313981] Re: Kernel disabling serial port ttyS0 on boot

2014-04-30 Thread Hans109h
Because I require the serial port in production I downgraded to 13.10
and all testing I do will be through a live usb boot. Assuming I can
figure out how to customize the live usb to use the mainstream kernel I
will test it.

Thanks,

Hans

[Bug 1313981] [NEW] Kernel disabling serial port ttyS0 on boot

2014-04-28 Thread Hans109h
Public bug reported:

On boot in 13.10 kern.log would state:

Serial: 8250/16550 driver, 32 ports, IRQ sharing enabled
 00:0a: ttyS0 at I/O 0x3f8 (irq = 4) is a 16550A

and my serial modem would work just fine.

After upgrading to 14.04 the kernel log contains:

Serial: 8250/16550 driver, 4 ports, IRQ sharing enabled
 serial 00:0a: disabled

How do I enable 00:0a? Do I need to recompile the kernel with a
different config?

[Bug 1075353] Re: timestamp does not show up unless highlighted

2012-11-24 Thread Hans109h
I was able to (make shift) fix this problem by commenting out the
following line in /etc/rsyslog.conf

$ActionFileDefaultTemplate RSYSLOG_TraditionalFileFormat

I supose if I read the rsyslog documentation I could figure out what was
going wrong, but I have to many other issues to work out right now. If
anyone else can get the traditional timestamp to work please let me
know.
