[Bug 496076] [NEW] notifications volume
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-media The problem is with volume of notifications control. When I move it to the left edge the 'disabled' check box appears. It seems logical to me that 99% of Ubuntu installations have English language (and dictionaries) installed, and 99% of users never use more then 1 English variant (and many people do not really know what the difference is). So there are 5 options in spell check menu which just confuse users and are never used. This seems to be not user friendly at all. Currently it even seems impossible to manually remove packages with language variants one doesn't use since language-support-en and language-support-writing-en depend on them. It would be expected that user could select language variants he wants to use and then only these variants get displayed all over the system. I'll really appreciate if this could be solved and Ubuntu UI could be made more friendly to people. I'll be happy to provide any additional information. Thanks! [Bug 796371] Re: Pidgin spell check languages names are not human readable
Sorry, I'll try to describe this in more detail. 1) Steps to reproduce: * start Pidgin * open chat window * right-click in the text box where you normally type message (to open context menu) and point mouse 'Languages' option. 2) Behavior expected: languages submenu should contain human readable names, like 'English', 'Russian'. Other applications (e.g. Firefox, LibreOffice) do this. 3) In the submenu which appears there is a list of languages installed in the system, which literally says: en_AU, en_CA, en_GB, en_US, en_ZA, ru_RU. See attachment for menu screenshot. Also, please note that I have Russian language selected for my account - just in case this affects something. I think that this problem appeared after Natty updated (I do not remember having this issue before). Please let me know if I could provide more information. ** Attachment added: menu-shot.xcf https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pidgin/+bug/796371/+attachment/2167456/+files/menu-shot.xcf -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/796371 Title: Pidgin spell check languages names are not human readable To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pidgin/+bug/796371/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 796722] [NEW] Drop down menu has a lot of empty space
Public bug reported: Hi. The problem I describe bellow probably exists in other drop down menus, but I was quickly able to locate it in Save dialogs of LibreOffice and GIMP. Please see screenshot attached. As you might be able to see - if file types menu has a lot of options then there is big empty space displayed when menu is first shown. One can scroll to fill in that empty space, but in case of GIMP it takes whole screen and looks ugly. The expected behavior would be to display menu without any empty areas. I'd be happy to provide any additional information if required. Thanks. [Bug 796381] Re: Too many language variants
Hi, even for 'non-single-user' installation, for desktops I think it reasonable to assume that all users speak more or less same language and it would be very rare if this includes several different English variants. :) Actually, if I could make a suggestion here it seems to me that now all dictionaries installed somewhere in /usr/share/(myspell|humspell) and there is a lot of simlinking involved. So, it might make sense to allow users to make something like ~/.myspell, ~/.mhunspell which links to dictionaries. With help of command line, maybe some scripts or simple UI around this one could select set of languages he uses. And the only change needed for this - to make spell checking libraries look for dictionaries in somewhere home dir, and if that dir doesn't exist - in system location. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/796381 Title: Too many language variants To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dictionaries-common/+bug/796381/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The distinctive 'feature' of my problem was that distortion appeared one some other application tried to play sound (e.g. skype when somebody logs in) along with another. And at some cases distortion could become 'permanent', i.e. be heard even when skype finished playing its sound. And as I've posted in comment #4 it looks like it was configuration issue and now sound is ok. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/778852 Title: Sound is distorted sometimes To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/778852/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 778852] [NEW] Sound is distorted sometimes
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: pulseaudio When I'm listening to rythmbox sometimes sound becomes distorted. Sometimes it is distorted when I unpause playback, but if I pause and unpause once more it becomes fine again. I found pretty good way to reproduce though: 1) Have rythmbox playing. 2) Open video file in totem 3) Close totem 4) repeat 2-3 Always, when totem opens/closes I hear a small dropout in music. But sometimes along with dropout distortion begins. And distortion finishes when I open/close totem again. I.e. I open totem - just dropout, I close totem - distortion begins, I open totem again - distortion disappears. Distortion doesn't appear 100% of the time, but pretty often. Dropout can be heard always. [Bug 775759] [NEW] When window is moved to different workplace it is not moved from window list
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel After update to Natty I have the following. When I select any window in window list and move it to other workplace using context menu the window disappears from current workspace (which is correct) but button for this window stays. When I go to any other workspace and return back that button is not longer there. Same thing happens when I move window to other workspace using context menu of window title. Before Natty upgrade button disappeared from current workspace as soon as I clicked context menu item to move window. I have setting to show only windows from current desktop on. This bug could possibly be related to #697358 although solution from comment 21 there doesn't help. I really hope I explained it well. Will be happy to provide any additional information required. [Bug 772834] Re: Asus U43F with 11.04 freeze on suspend
I've got similar issue on my Dell Inspiron 6400. And I've tracked it down to intel wifi driver. I have iwl 5300 card installed - and as I can see at least some people here have intel wifi too. My system hangs during suspend, but if I do 'sudo rmmod iwlagn' it suspends/resumes fine. But I also have latest compat-wireless installed from source. You might also want to try 'sudo rmmod iwlagn iwlcore' Anyway, I'm not sure how this all related, but I think it might worth a try to isolate issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/772834 Title: Asus U43F with 11.04 freeze on suspend -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 778852] Re: Sound is distorted sometimes
Looks like that in my case the cause of the issue was an attempt to make pulseaudio control PCM volume instead if it's weird way to control both master and PCM volume. [Bug 573661] Re: gnome-volume-control slider moves both Master and PCM
Have same issue on Dell Inspuron 6400. Do not remember having this on 10.04 and before, it started to happen after upgrade to 10.10. And addition to what Sridhar has said I can add that when I change volume in volume control it reaches 100% in alsamixer well before I reach 'loudest' position in volume control. So part of volume-control's slider range does nothing. This is a bit annoying since laptop has 'volume buttons' and when I use them volume is changed in huge steps. [Bug 658937] [NEW] Hangs on hibernate
Public bug reported: I have a Dell Inspiron 6400 laptop with ATI 1400 video. After upgrade to Maveric hibernate started to behave in very weird way. If I press 'power' button just after I log in (i.e. almost nothing is started) - system hibernates and awakes with out any issues. I have to notice here, that I normally (since, or even before Lucid) get errors on the console during hibernate. They are about bluetooth adaptor, something like 'cannot retransmit', I get these messages before linux starts to dump memory to disk (I can see this on HDD light). If I start for example firefox (I have a lot of tabs open, FF takes about 600MB) and then press 'power' button screen goes black and I see only cursor in upper left conner. I do no see those error messages about bluetooth and system doesn't dump memory to disk, is just hangs here. I still can switch consoles, but I cannot type anything there - I guess it's because processes already have been frozen at this point. I have 3.5GB of ram and 6GB of swap. This all was working perfectly with Lucid. It stopped working after I updated to Maveric without any hardware or configuration changes. I tried Maveric livecd with same results. It successfully hibernates after login. But if I start firefox on same profile (with a lot of tabs) - it hangs during hibernate with same symptoms. I tried to play with boot command line parameters 'nomodeset' and 'pci=nomsi' without any results. I usually have nomodeset because otherwise X gets very slow. I guess you are currently very busy with new release, but I hope you could look into this. I'd be happy to provide any details or do any testing if you could tell me what information is required. [Bug 657551] Re: console-setup doesn't start
Looks like the problem is in upstart config for console setup: - $ cat /etc/init/console-setup.conf # console-setup - set console keymap # # Set the console keyboard as early as possible so that the administrator # can interact with the system during file system checks. The keymap may be # set on any virtual console as long as it isn't in raw mode; loadkeys will # go and look for one such, and fail if it can't find one. description set console keymap and font start on (virtual-filesystems or starting rcS or starting mountall-shell) task exec loadkeys /etc/console-setup/cached.kmap.gz - And I'd guess that it should call /bin/setupcon (from console-setup package) which loads both - keys and font. [Bug 799104] Re: Wobbly Windows maximise effect triggers on focus
Hi. Sorry for the delay. Here is how I'm able to reproduce this problem: 1) Boot up Ubuntu 12.04 live cd 2) Install CCSM (you'll probably need to update apt sources) 3) Run CCSM disable ubuntu unity plugin and enable wobbly windows. You might need to enable other plugins to make system usable. 4) Restart compiz with 'compiz --replace ccsm' After this once you switch to maximised window it wobbles. My wild guess would be that unity plugin handles header of maximized windows in some custom way and this problem is not visible when it is enabled. I do understand that this means that unity users are not affected, but users of other desktop environments are e.g. xfce and, dare I say, mate. I would really appreciate if you could look into this. [Bug 929334] Re: nginx deny all doesn't support ipv6
This is not true. Stock nginx in Lucid does support ipv6 and is configured to support it by default - please see config above. Also since 'deny all' doesn't work with ipv6 '/doc' is opened to everybody on ipv6 in the config above which is not exactly what was intended. I'm not saying that nginx version should be updated since problem can be easily worked around. All I'm saying is that default config should be fixed to properly work with ipv6 - this is security problem in LTS version after all. Also it would be nice to have clear comment in default config that ipv6 doesn't work with 'deny all'. Thanks. ** Changed in: nginx (Ubuntu Lucid) Status: Invalid = New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to the bug report. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/929334 Title: nginx deny all doesn't support ipv6 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nginx/+bug/929334/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 929334] Re: nginx deny all doesn't support ipv6
The problem is that module in question is used by default config (see 'deny all' in '/doc' in config above). This is not a huge security problem by itself (after all only static doc becomes available on machine with ipv6 connectivity. The more serious issue is that users might use that '/doc' definition as an example for their own configurations and get serious security holes (especially considering similarity with apache config in this case). And I think it is pretty reasonable for the user to assume that stock config performs in reasonable and expected way. The problem might become more frequent as users move to ipv6 support on existing installations - this might be not that infrequent with all this 'ipv6 day' buzz. The fix would be to use 'return 403;' instead of 'deny all' in default nginx config in '/doc' section. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with debdiff tool and I'll have to spend some time learning it. I'll try to do this, but this won't be very fast. In any case I would appreciate if you could incorporate trivial fix I mentioned above along with some explanation why this is being done into changes for #956150. [Bug 1305699] Re: upowerd crashed with SIGSEGV in service_client_free()
Bug described here has likely nothing to do with libimobiledevice-utils. Patch attached to this bug fixes clearly reproducinble memory handling issue in upowerd. This patch has been accepted by upstream. I think it would be nice if Ubuntu could apply it to LTS packages. [Bug 1305699] Re: upowerd crashed with SIGSEGV in service_client_free()
I'm not sure I would agree that this is idevice library bug. Yes, it's API might not be perfect, but given that API upowerd was doing clearly wrong thing. Yes, API maybe could be improved. But this is not the reason for upowerd to ignore current state of API contract and do wrong thing. Jyst my 2 cents. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1305699 Title: upowerd crashed with SIGSEGV in service_client_free() To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/upower/+bug/1305699/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1327659] [NEW] Compiz freezes when screen is disconnected
Public bug reported: I have an laptop with Intel HD4000 graphics running compiz (with mint mate). When I disconnect external screen the main laptop screen blinks and starts displaying old stuff on left half and old stuff from disconnected screen on right half. And it freezes in this state although mouse is still moving - but I cannot click anything. Do dmesg messages, but xsession-errors contains this: failed to create drawable compiz (core) - Warn: glXCreatePixmap failed compiz (opengl) - Error: FBO is incomplete: GL::FRAMEBUFFER_INCOMPLETE_ATTACHMENT (0x8cd6) compiz (opengl) - Error: FBO is incomplete: GL::FRAMEBUFFER_INCOMPLETE_ATTACHMENT (0x8cd6) compiz (opengl) - Error: FBO is incomplete: GL::FRAMEBUFFER_INCOMPLETE_ATTACHMENT (0x8cd6) compiz (opengl) - Error: FBO is incomplete: GL::FRAMEBUFFER_INCOMPLETE_ATTACHMENT (0x8cd6) compiz (opengl) - Error: FBO is incomplete: GL::FRAMEBUFFER_INCOMPLETE_ATTACHMENT (0x8cd6) compiz (opengl) - Error: FBO is incomplete: GL::FRAMEBUFFER_INCOMPLETE_ATTACHMENT (0x8cd6) compiz (opengl) - Error: FBO is incomplete: GL::FRAMEBUFFER_INCOMPLETE_ATTACHMENT (0x8cd6) compiz (opengl) - Error: FBO is incomplete: GL::FRAMEBUFFER_INCOMPLETE_ATTACHMENT (0x8cd6) compiz (opengl) - Error: FBO is incomplete: GL::FRAMEBUFFER_INCOMPLETE_ATTACHMENT (0x8cd6) compiz (opengl) - Error: FBO is incomplete: GL::FRAMEBUFFER_INCOMPLETE_ATTACHMENT (0x8cd6) compiz (opengl) - Error: FBO is incomplete: GL::FRAMEBUFFER_INCOMPLETE_ATTACHMENT (0x8cd6) compiz (opengl) - Error: FBO is incomplete: GL::FRAMEBUFFER_INCOMPLETE_ATTACHMENT (0x8cd6) This happens with both Trusty stock x server and oibaf xserver, but this doesn't happen if I disable compiz. Also, problem exists when I connect screen, i.e. any change in screen config triggers this issue. Please let me know if I can provide any useful information to help fixing this issue. Thanks!
